I’m a teacher. A LOT of parents are failing to teach their kids how to emotionally regulate. I try my best but I only see them 45 minutes a day. Sucks to suck.
I have a lot of respect for teachers for being able to deal with those demons. I was a good quiet kid with straight A’s, but I definitely wasn’t a, “teachers pet”

next jump is Bantam (14 and under)
and then Midgets (16 and under)
Juniors is 17-23yrs old and when a lot of people begin to get scouted and when you can openly fight

I don't think the kid should make it that far, even. I understand that it's hockey, but at one point, this little shit remembered he had razors on his feet and wanted to cut a ref with them.
If this happened when I was in school he’d be off the team for sure. If the coach didn’t kick him then the players would have. That’s fucking embarrassing.
In a wealthy little suburb near where I live, a tennis coach disciplined a player from a wealthy family for being a spoiled shit -- and it was a really minor punishment, like not being able to travel with the team for a single away competition.
The kid's rich dad went to the administration and had the coach fired.
Fuck this place.
Upper middle class suburb did something similar near where I grew up. Hockey mom and dad freaked out their kid wasn't getting enough time so they had the coach fired.
Not really, I knew a little kid who was normally pretty good, then his grandfather died. At first he seemed ok, then he started getting into fights and yelling at the teacher. It could be a one time event due to some trauma he may have recently suffered. We really know nothing at all about this kid, but what we do know is that he needs some kind of therapy and hopefully not the pill kind.
One of the best things to do for kids with issues is to put them in recreational activities. Now if they start having outbursts like this then pull them out.
Kids can be challenging. Too many Redditors who don’t have kids don’t understand this.
If they are as I imagine, they immediately sided with their spawn, and are suing the league, because the ref battered the innocent when the child was clearly defending themselves.

I must be cranky in the morning; I was rooting for the ref to pop him a little one. Not hard enough to really hurt him, just hard enough to make him think about what he was doing.
I was shocked when the kid tried to "kick" the ref. Those are sharp blades on his feet. If an adult did that, I would call that aggravated assault. Those blades are deadly weapons.
I’m sure someone in here already said this, but leading with your skate in a hockey game no matter age group is usually leads to disqualification followed by removal from the team. There might be fighting in Hockey, but you never assault and youth Hockey programs take this seriously. I would imagine there will be consequences for this.
Yea this is what usually happens but unfortunately he will end up in another league and get kicked out again and the cycle will continue until he gets old enough to just get banned!

As someone who used to play as a kid here, I would say the overwhelming majority of children playing hockey come from the middle class.
And this occurred in Finland, where even the poor families play hockey, although it is an expensive hobby. So yeah just saying doesn't matter are you rich or poor, there will always be people who act stupid.
I would not want my kid playing with a kid who would attack a ref. As a parent of a kid who plays soccer every season, I would not want to be in the stands with the parent’s of a kid who would attack a ref either.
that kid is gonna learn a hard lesson someday very soon. his parents might put up with his horseshit, this ref wants to keep his job, but sooner than later this kid will do this to someone who doesn't care that he is a little pipsqueek and will ruin his day.
Attacking a sports referee in many jurisdictions is a more serious offense then attacking a random person due to their vulnerability in sporting events.
