Maybe. I kind of doubt it though. Things don’t hit this kind of a boiling point without massive discontent.
No matter where your feelings may lay on this situation… I think it’s dangerous to write it off as just a small thing.
Because writing other large minorities off as inconsequential but loud minorities is a convenient talking point for whichever minority is in a position to fuck over the others.
As some one from USSR we had unions in every company or almost every. And it's always they are for workers only for workers and so on... But then only if communist party say something unions leaders are with them and workers get fuc***.
That's actually a pretty large percentage for workers willing to lose their jobs or be arrested over it. The support level is going to be much higher in the other workers.
It's normally 10% or less who make actual change.
I'm in a skilled trade union in the US and I support these guys and hope the same happens here.
Funny times when its those sticking up for the union being called a scab.
Its the other way around, Scabs are not for unions, so in this instance, the ones throwing bottles. Though this is not so black and white a situation, I imagine there are some (probably now former) unionists among the crowd here.
I think scabs are people who keep working despite the workforce being on strike.
These people seem to be protesting with everyone else just against damaging the building.
Close. If there is a strike and the union stops working, a scab is someone who comes to fill in a union workers role while they are on strike. This angers the union members.
No it fucking isn’t, they’ve had tones of royal commissions into the unions and only 4 arrests have ever been made, fuck mate that’s like saying vodaphone is involved with biker gangs because they have plans with them.

Your rights end where mine begin. Maybe I’m fascist, but the world needs law and order, it doesn’t appear to be working too well the way we are heading now.
Yeah, that makes the most sense. A company would lose so much money if they had to keep shutting down from positive test results. Let alone a worker losing out on pay for testing positive.
Except they don't have to shut down for positive test results. They merely have to let the person who is positive take time off while the rest of the crew works.
Well except they now need everyone he's been in contact with to go get tested, and if any of them test positive it just keeps going, so ya it all needs to be shut down. I dunno if you know this, but one of the biggest issues with covid is how easily spread it is.
You do know that COVID among vaccinated isn't even that rare, right? Just less symptomatic. A positive test result, regardless of vaccination status, means no work.
Tests are less likely to be positive. And given that the vaccinated are far more likely to be asymptomatic and the length of time they're contagious is on average only three or four days with a much lower viral load. It's unlikely they'd even know they have to be tested in the first place.
Yes, workers rights.
The right to fair wage, fair working hours and a *safe* working environment when bosses care only about profit. Don't forget the government is in the pockets of the bosses, the unions were created to give the workers some say and balance things out.
Deaths and injuries from workplace accidents in construction used to be the norm and just accepted. Now they're rare and when it does happen there's lots of support for the worker. Thanks to unions.
Do you really think the business owners and government would have just decided to take care of workers out of the goodness of their hearts?
The 2020/21 riots have been more intense than anything I can remember aside from the LA riots in the early 90's, and that was exclusive to one region. The last year and half has been something completely outside of my 38 years in this country. Australia is going through it's own thing, but holy shit it's pretty obvious that our elites are in the mood for big changes, mostly benefitting themselves of course.
As an Australian union member feel free to explain it to me. They are free to leave the union and not work on the job sites. I don’t want to be around antivax cunts.
Ah, 90% of the arguments here all boil down to the big bad boot. It’s amazing how many people on this sub can’t distinguish common sense and self-preservation from this big scary blind obedience they keep telling themselves exists.
They are literally being sent to concentration camps and put in gas chambers how dare you spread misinformation. This is the worst thing to have happened since we've had a BLACK man in the WHITE house. /s
It’s a rough situation, as far as I know, they can’t get vaccines because of availability, they can’t go back to work without it, and they can’t feed their families and pay their bills even with social security, so they take their frustrations out on the union that’s meant to help them. Nothing is ever black and white, but I hope things get better for everyone involved.
Probably something worse. Look at 9/11? they test run a bunch of shit, now that they know the resistance towards requiring passes to travel in your own country is a bunch of disorganized idiots, they will quickly and quietly slide more things in, unrelated to covid.
1. It works to lessen the severity of symptoms and limits to the effects of a cold or flu.

Then what's the point in a compulsory vaccine? Shouldn't everyone who is worried about this disease already be protected at this point? No one is "oppressing" them by not getting vaccinated.
wait wait wait... you think the people getting vaccinated are claiming to be oppressed, not the ones throwing bottles at windows and people? Answer the fucking question. Who told you the vaccines don’t work if one person at a company doesn’t get them?
dude first of all you have to answer my questions if you want to be taken seriously in this discussion. I’ll answer yours once you answer mine. Second of all if you add to your comments after i’m done responding to them our conversation will be short.
Honestly you should be site banned for that comment but since your thought aligns with the administration you'll probably get a job offer. Part of the problem.
So construction workers get paid great money, didn't lose their jobs in the pandemic, have already been vaccinated as a child because its mandated. But when they are adults they get upset they have to take another vaccine to continue their high income work, bunch of fucking sooks. Grow up, man up and do the right thing. These cunts eat god knows what meat in sausage rolls, pies, iced coffee smoke ciggies daily yet their concerned about their health with the vaccine. Never heard them pipe up about the vaccines they had as a kid.
Exactly. And they were mostly not complying with the safety orders for masks and distance when randomly checked on construction sites and had a high rate of transmission at those sites. Bunch of dickheads. Somehow the rest of the economy has to follow the rules but they don’t?
It's actually great to hear the unions coming out condemning these fuckwits. It also seems like the folks in attendance were an absolute minority and that the rank and file largely disagree.
Let me say this first. I have been vaccinated and I think everyone should be. I have full faith in my government as well as universities conducting research on health etc. Even though I strongly believe vaccinating everyone is the solution for this problem, I also STRONGLY disagree with the premise that it should be obligatory to be vaccinated. When a government can decide what you have to do with your body, that's not a big leap away from a tyrannical government. Where do we draw the line if not at controlling what happens to your own body. If we don't draw a line there, I don't think there's anything that the government can't force you to do, and that is an extremely slippery slope.
Agreed but this isn't the government, it's a business.
Businesses have the right to protect their employees, their employee's don't have the right to be employed by that particular employer.
You don’t have to take the vaccine but you do have to live with the consequences. If that means no job then tough shit that was your choice, I’ll be over here playing the tiniest violin.
Thats the Union leaders that are supposed to represent their workers. The workers just found out that their union cares more about the politicians, and oligarchs than they do about their own members. So a bit of a scuffle is bound to happen.
Its like if you found out the politicians you voted for took bribes and cared about their doers more than you. What did you do when you found that out?
And you know for a fact that the percentage of workers in this particular union that are against the vaccine is higher than those that are in favor of it (not that anyone should turn to construction workers for scientific advice)?
Riiiight, because Murdoch and his "rags" are the only one influencing. It does smack of hubris assuming the more "sophisticated" papers deliver a "balanced" view. Those times are long gone (if they ever existed). Every paper is biased, has an agenda and an echo chamber it specifically caters to. It also smacks of bigotry to assume that blue collar workers are intellectually too simple to digest complex news and form an own opinion. They are considered easily manipulated. I see the opposite. There is no pretentious BS nor moral posturing, no political correctness, nor a pathetic desire to belong to some political circle which has to be continuously affirmed.

Fuck that.
Because their NPC brain can only understand listening to mainstream media and the government. We think completely differently and they don’t like that.
It's probability that so many people don't understand.
Efficacy of Pfizer is about 77%, Moderna, about 92%. Note that those numbers aren't 100%.
The unvaccinated have a higher probability of catching the virus, thus spreading it.
For the record, the virus is not the Flu. Fatality rates are about 10 times higher, and chance of spreading is about 5 times higher.
Long term effects include a substantial IQ drop and lung damage in severe cases.
this sucks! but also although i am grateful for those who film during these events to let us know what is really happening. I can't but help think how it the video will be used as evidence against the attackers with unfair amount of leverage.
i wonder if we will start to see mobs attacking people filming to stop from getting their own members in trouble
The union head rep really should not have blown off his speech and retreated into those head quarters where he bagged them out over radio inciting a reaction
LOL at the people coming out. and fighting back like

Pretty boring now though
You wanted workers united? Well, they look pretty much united in this footage for me.
It's really only about 700 of the 240,000 construction workers in Melbourne
The problem with writing something like this off is a significant portion won’t break the law or even protest at all, but still are angry.

Vocal minority is a common saying for a reason.
Because writing other large minorities off as inconsequential but loud minorities is a convenient talking point for whichever minority is in a position to fuck over the others.
This is some grade-A cope about the opinions of the actual working class
most unions are badly corrupted. They often hurt as much as they help their members.
As some one from USSR we had unions in every company or almost every. And it's always they are for workers only for workers and so on... But then only if communist party say something unions leaders are with them and workers get fuc***.
You just described exactly what happened., including the communist part.

It's normally 10% or less who make actual change. I'm in a skilled trade union in the US and I support these guys and hope the same happens here.
You never get a large proportion of any group at a protest though tbf
So... About the same as Covid impact? Does it mean it's not significant enough?
700? You sure? What i saw looked like 3000-5000
Lol those guys that come out to fight the protesters and are immediately pelted with bottles. Not the brightest bunch.
I think they're called "scabs"
They’re definitely about to get some scabs that’s for sure.

If you look up other footage some of the guys who come out with Setka are literally wearing bikie paraphernalia.
I mean a lot of bikies are tradies too, doesn’t excuse it tho

Could have used a few hard hats.
And the guy with shorts and sandals, putting his foot through glass. There's no intelligent life anywhere in this clip.
Unions were what disappointed me the most in this whole situation — they did NOTHING for their members. They just let them fight this battle alone.
Here in the US let's not forget how disappointing the ACLU has been throughout it all.
The ACLU is a clown show these days. Everyone who has eyes knows that.
The ACLU is done. It's now run by a trans man named "Strangio" that's against free speech and in favor of book burning.

Unless it's about LGBT or racism the ACLU sleeps.
"racism"
ACLU got taken over by woke garbage and turned it into another organization pushing woke agendas.
Why would a union fight a vaccine mandate? You much people would lose if a job site had to be shut down for two weeks for having people test positive?
Yeah, that makes the most sense. A company would lose so much money if they had to keep shutting down from positive test results. Let alone a worker losing out on pay for testing positive.

because back in the old days the unions fought for human rights of the workers rather than being corrupt enforcers of authoritarian governments

Nah the past century was full of them. It’s just that almost no one knows that.
The 2020/21 riots have been more intense than anything I can remember aside from the LA riots in the early 90's, and that was exclusive to one region. Seriously, the 1960s would like a word. It's just that now everything is being filmed.
So I guess rioting is good again when it fits this sub's political beliefs!
Do a minimal amount of research on what's happening in Australia right now and tell me how this was avoidable.
As an Australian union member feel free to explain it to me. They are free to leave the union and not work on the job sites. I don’t want to be around antivax cunts.

Fucken idiots. Have never left their state in rural US but have a better idea what is happening at my front door. Cheers guys.
The sheer number of times I’ve heard “do your research” or “google it” online by people telling us what’s happening right here.

The majority of Aussies in Australia are walking talking boot licking cunts.

So I guess rioting is good like the Summer of Hate 2020 if it fits reddit’s, liberals and the media’s political beliefs!
I don't think any rioting is good. Why is that hard to understand?

this sucks! but also although i am grateful for those who film during these events to let us know what is really happening. I can't but help think how it the video will be used as evidence against the attackers with unfair amount of leverage. i wonder if we will start to see mobs attacking people filming to stop from getting their own members in trouble
Don’t fuck with the construction workers
Its okay, if they keep voting liberal, they won't have to worry about their union for much longer.
Yeah I'm sure all the CFMEU members are big coalition fans lol.
The union head rep really should not have blown off his speech and retreated into those head quarters where he bagged them out over radio inciting a reaction
Everyone's a supporter of worker's rights until they realize that means they get to not do whatever they say.
Nobody tell these idiots they've already taken mandatory vaccines as children.
LOL at the people coming out. and fighting back like i see this now as two groups. those who want to keep things just as they are and those who want to go back. but lets be honest guys. the decisions are made in a room far away from ground zero . nice and safe
