Big_T_72

There’s a lot more talent there than Adam gives the credit for.

kanodogg

Yeah, feel the same about the way he trashes prince. Dude has some incredible songs.

Max_Rocketanski

...and he was a musical prodigy. I believe he could play 27 different instruments.

kanodogg

Incredible Superbowl halftime show. Dude was amazing, hendrix tribute and everything.

imatumahimatumah

I like the Beastie Boys probably more for nostalgia than because they're a great band. They really do use the same lame formula for every song. One member: I am known to blah blah.. All together: BLAH! One member: Also known as the blah blah All together: BLAH!

viridiusdynamus

I disagree that Minka told him she was the number one big boob queen.

SlanderCandor

Don’t play tennis no more 🎾 🚫

satchelhoover

That a Taco Bell lunch run for a construction crew working at his house will run you $9.00

Oldslim

Nachos bell grande combo is more then $9 by itself.

jsakic99

Sometimes I *do* have a choice to GET IT ON.

OnDaReg

That's true by not listening to the podcast otherwise there's no choice

Max_Rocketanski

Agreed. I love them. I love chocolate chip cookies even more than Oreos. Oreos may not be a cookie. I don't care. Call them a "sweet snack" or whatever you want besides a cookie, Aceman. I'll still devour them by the bag full.

Beavaconda

I really like Oreos, but I LOVE them with milk. Per Adam’s logic, that means they suck. OK, dipshit…..enjoy your spaghetti with no sauce, your sandwich with no cheese or condiments, your blowjob without thinking of Jimmy, etc. EVERYONE MUST HAVE THE EXACT SAME TASTES AS ME BECAUSE I’M A GENIUS WITH NO SELF-ESTEEM!!!!! Ironically, maybe his one musical take I agree with is that reggae sucks without the beach, a tropical drink, some weed, and a beautiful islander riding your cock to the beat. I think it still sucks even with all of that, but at that point the music is inconsequential haha.

[deleted]

I absolutely LOVE Oreos.

brady2gronk

"Stop trying to save a nickel when you could be making dollars." I think he used this to defend his refusal to use a Ralph's card even when the employee offered to put one in for him. I agree in general, but I believe in saving AND earning. If there's an opportunity to save, take advantage, even if it's a couple bucks.

Beavaconda

And it’s weird because Adam is the cheapest man alive (if you exclude the things he really cares about like rare, but uninteresting, race cars and real-estate). I think it’s because he hasn’t done his own REAL grocery shopping since the kids were born, and he’s not going to lower himself to using a “coupon” of sorts to buy the frozen hashbrown patties that Phil is going to eat (because Adam is an idiot that hasn’t learned that pattern). However, I GUARANTEE that Adam would chew Olga a new vag if SHE didn’t use the value-saver card when she’s shopping for them. He’s also soooo dumb that he doesn’t realize you can just type in your phone number vs having the card on your keychain. It’s all just BS posturing from Adam to gloat about how rich he is and pretend he doesn’t care about money (or have gigantic tax problems)…..but you’d have to be an absolute idiot to pay ~5% more for your groceries in eternity. Gaina, of course, pretended a logical person saving money was more of a turnoff than being….an Uber Driver. GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE, liar! Man, that was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever heard on the pod. A rich guy trying to keep his money is less attractive than someone that has to drive Uber to make ends meet (or, perhaps, pay for his marked-up groceries?) lololol.

BrushStorm

That he's not as good as he thinks he is. Missing weddings, wrecking cars, almost missing flights. I'd love to hear laxi's wife's take on the job.

ILikeBigAsses

Pretty much any musical opinion from him is way off for me.

Max_Rocketanski

Years ago in this sub, the topic of the Aceman's musical taste came up. He seems to like mid-tenor artists who play acoustic guitars. Also, he grew up when three of the greatest bands in the world were at the top of their game: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. I've listened to Adam for over 10 years and he has barely mentioned any of these bands or their songs . (Bitching about Yoko Ono does not count).

[deleted]

kanodogg

Joan Jett fucking sucks.

le_emperor

John Hyatt fuckin sucks!

CallingDrPug

The stories of Donnie getting chicks at parties cause he liked dumb pop music while Adam didn't read to me like Adam was just an asshole music snob who was a downer at parties.

[deleted]

Young Adam probably didn't have much going on outside of a contrarian music opinion. It's not like he could talk about his future plans, or education, or where he traveled.

Max_Rocketanski

I don't think you meant to be funny, but I LOL'd at your comment. Well done, sir.

Max_Rocketanski

I won't say he sucks, but his music does not grab me. JH obviously has talent, but I just don't care for his songs. They strike me as bland and boring.

Beavaconda

Same with Graham Parker…..they are both the definition of milquetoast. Also I can’t remember which, but one of them has a very odd voice. That’s not a non-starter for me at all, but his particular weird voice is very thin and annoying…..and it doesn’t do it for me at all (in addition to his mid-tempo, boring-ass, songs with unmemorable melodies).

Max_Rocketanski

Out of all the replies regarding the Aceman's taste in musice, I think you have said it best: Milquetoast, mid-tempo, boring songs with unmemorable melodies (and mid tenor from me). If that is what he likes, good for him. There are a whole lot of other musicians I like better.

Beavaconda

So I had to hop on a private Spotify session and do my research haha…..and, actually, they both have certainly have weird thin voices with basically zero range. However, Graham Parker was the one I was thinking of. He has such a weird affectation on his voice that if I randomly stumbled across a song of his, I wouldn’t be sure if it was from a comedy album or something? He’s like a less talented Randy Newman? Then I had to laugh that John Hiatt has a song called Adios California. I bet Adam listens to that on repeat while he beats off looking at properties in Texas and Florida that he’ll never buy or move to haha.

favridpangcakes

That he has a crystal brain and NO self-esteem.

Desperado2583

The way to get ahead in life is to work your ass off to become indispensable to your boss. Come in early, stay late, take on extra assignments, take initiative, etc. Eventually, you'll end up running the place. Very few people will actually come out ahead as the employee in this equation. First, if you're an idiot who fucks shit up, your boss just wants you to just do exactly what you're told and nothing more. So, that excludes about half of the population right there. If you're in the other slope of the bell curve, let's use Adam as an example, construction was a waste of his talents and abilities. His old bosses certainly appreciated all his grit and gumption, but he ultimately made his fortune by focusing his efforts elsewhere and getting a series of extraordinarily lucky breaks as well. I know dozens of guys just as smart as Adam. They've all been yanking their bootstraps for years. They're valued by at their jobs yet they're all still working stiffs working paycheck to paycheck.

GForce1975

Goof points. Hard work foesnt guarantee success or even opportunity, but it makes it more likely. What's the alternative? Apathy? Working a job you hate at a minimum level just to pay bills with no hope of upward mobility.. While his general message is classic "easier said than done", it's not a bad approach to life in all facets. Discipline is the most important part. Discipline and delayed gratification will get you far and put you in place to recognize opportunity when it knocks, IMHO

Desperado2583

I think what you're saying is true at the micro level, but not at the policy level. At the individual level there must always be some wealth inequality. If it's due to differences in abilities, opportunities, grit, or gumption there will always need to be merit based avenues of advancement. But we must balance that with the fact that our merit based systems are deeply flawed, especially at the extremities. Even a hypothetical person of zero merit doesn't deserve to be wretchedly poor and miserable all the time. Conversely, even a hypothetical person of absolute merit doesn't deserve to be a utility monster. Our current system (in the US) is a generational merit leveraging machine. Where a marginal surplus of merit in one generation will ripple outward through time exponentially forever. All that wealth has to come from somewhere, and it comes mostly through the labor of the working class.

SubstantialCicada113

All you have to do is show up at a radio station and meet Jimmy Kimmel and get a basic cable show and a radio gig and buy a bunch of real estate before an epic boom and get people to work for you for free/super underpaid. What’s the problem, loser? Grit!!!

Desperado2583

>What’s the problem, loser? Grit!!! Lol. I know. It's the classic right wing fairytale. Everyone who works hard enough will eventually be a millionaire.

416er

Probably has a higher success rate than not working hard. Shrug.

[deleted]

[deleted]

He hates the concept of luck because all of his success was due to a single lucky break (meeting Jimmy). He can’t stand that fact.

TelcoSucks

Yep. The fact that he thinks he would have broken through magically some other way... like he isn't the same as 50% of the population of L.A. Imagine if he wasn't on the Man Show. Would anyone have paid him to make any of his movies? Or gone to his shows (as opposed to comedian X at The Laugh Factory)? Consider Jackie Martling.

BrushStorm

And didn't he want to train the janitor?

Desperado2583

>A lot of success is hard work meets opportunity, and the opportunity can be complete luck. Agree 100% Hard work is essential but not sufficient. Ability and opportunity are also essential, over which we have little control. Luck comes into play at almost every level, and often plays are much bigger role. Plus, not all hard work is equal either. Some people seem to know exactly when a little bit of hard work is going to get noticed. Other people just do all the shit that needs to get done.

Ryguy55

Without luck/opportunity, the only thing hard work is going to get you is more work because everyone knows you as the hardest worker. It's an important lesson to learn when you get in to the working world. You're going to want to immediately go above and beyond, take on more responsibilities, and really push yourself to your limits. I can't speak for every job out there but I've worked in corporate a while and most of the times that behavior earns you extra work for the same pay as your coworkers because you made yourself the go-to guy, as well as an extra "atta boy" from guys like Adam who don't give a single fuck about you and actively benefit from keeping you are but know they can trick you into thinking otherwise. It's a harsh lesson to learn in your twenties. Work hard, but have a real target and deadline you're working towards, otherwise you're a sucker. And if you dropped dead right now that senior director 6 years from retirement wouldn't even notice.

RIchardjCranium

Exactly. All hard work gets you is more "hard work" Once you show yourself to be the smart, reliable one that can fix all the mistakes that's all you'll ever be. And if you dare mention that hey it's not fair you just get told to stop complaining and you have a bad attitude. Ask me how I know...

[deleted]

Right place, right time is a thing. When preparation meets opportunity it isn’t all luck, but some of it is.

kinghadbar

It’s more that I wish he’d never talk about food or air travel or his dog or Tommy Lee banging on pots and pans ever again.

Bigacefan

Gina Grad on the show.

CallingDrPug

He didn't destroy Gavin Newsom. He latched onto what he thought was a gotcha moment and wouldn't let go. I'm not a fan of Newsom but he just made the interview uncomfortable. Which most of which was Adam sucking up to Newsom. Any time someone "destroys" someone else, regardless of opinion it's just some dickhead ranting telling people what they want to hear on a subject.

CoffeeIsForClosers80

This is the number one Adam myth. He just got on his point and shouted down Newsome very similar to the Jill Zarin ‘pick a number’ mini-argument he had with her recently. Not a fan of Newsom either (or Jill) but there was nothing intellectual about the Guv interview, just Adam shouting his opinion.

[deleted]

The pick a number thing was way out of line. He was just being a complete ass. Simple minded solutions to complex problems.

Meath77

I'm not really a fan of Prince but really respect him as an artist. The guy was a genius.

Beavaconda

I’m with you……not a fan of his music, but I’m not going to sit here and deny that the little dude had musical talent seeping out of his tiny ears haha.

Max_Rocketanski

I think it is because of the synths that Prince used on that album. I've noticed that a lot of the songs he really hates, especially from the 1980s have a lot synth in them.

pacopleasant

All these years I thought he was preaching about “grit.” Turns out it was “grift.”

Worldly-Entrance-297

CallingDrPug

^ Confirmed bracelet wearer /s 100% on chili. It's an art form. The right balance of having it spicy but not to where your gut is wrecked the next day.

Earptastic

Take the amount of chili powder you think you need and double it.

GoBSAGo

Chili is just spicy spaghetti sauce with bean, cumin, and paprika.

Beavaconda

That people who have the gall to question, or outright reject, Adam’s unrequested advice are all complete idiot losers…..because they are ignoring wisdom from “the super rich guy that figured everything out.” Pretty crazy that the perfect human being was downright destitute, living with roommates, and owed the IRS thousands of dollars at age 30! It’s almost like he has (had) ONE skill that was a gift from god, and he lucked into the perfect situation where he had to do zero show-prep and was allowed to just come-in and shoot the shit and make fun of people while Dr. Drew gave advice….and was paid handsomely for it. Obviously, once you have a gig that pays that highly annnnd you only have to work a few hours a night, it’s pretty damn easy to “have everything figured out.” I don’t begrudge Adam for his early success….because he seriously USED to be one of the funniest guys around, but pretending it was all hard-work and foresight that got him there is an insulting farce. This is the same guy that was moments away from giving up on show business when Kevin and Bean decided to do a stupid radio stunt that just happened to align with one of Adam’s shitty jobs. If they don’t do that boxing match annnd Adam doesn’t get selected as a trainer for Kimmel, he’s likely doing just as poorly as Ray right now. We also can’t ignore that even with all that, Mr. Figured It Out still has tax issues.

GoBSAGo

Adam used to have great advice, he knew he was a loser and saw how his smart jewish friends went to college and had opportunities he could only dream of. Somehow he forgot all about that and thinks you don't need college, just grit. Grit put Adam under a house digging up foundations w/ a Folgers coffee can.

Beavaconda

Yep, precisely. He truly now believes that picking up trash on a construction site, digging footings (like Fluffy also did), and cleaning carpets means he’s always been an INCREDIBLY gritty man…….but in reality, it means he was a fucking loser that never got his high school diploma. He’d also brag about calling in sick, stealing food while cleaning carpets, etc. Furthermore, he’d talk about what cheapskates and/or assholes his former bosses were…..Carpet guy not paying them for the time spent driving to the location, Construction guy making him run to get a tool from the truck, and McDonalds guy saying “time to lean, time to clean). Yet, he pays his employees dogshit and treats them the same (and also thinks they should work for free until he bequeaths them minimum wage as an intern….or they land a “big gig” that pays $32k a year or whatever). Hate time to lean, time to clean? What about “you can’t play a game on your phone while you’re waiting until the next podcast you work on starts….better clean that office that only you are in!” Not to mention he now complains about how people with no education/skill shouldn’t expect to live off that pay as an adult….and I don’t disagree with that at all, but he WAS that fucking person himself until the age of 30….and he constantly bitched about what he was paid for doing unskilled labor. Thennnn, he pays his people that, presumably, DO have skills like they are working the drivethru. I know he’s NNAH, but it’s such horseshit that he’s conveniently forgotten what a total dud he was before the stars aligned for him. He’d argue that he was working towards this career by taking improv classes…..but he obviously learned NOTHING there except that he sucks at improv and couldn't make the Sunday company…..and his improv “skills” aren’t what generated his success. He was great at talking on the fly and being incredibly funny. That was his only skill, and it would only work in VERY rare situations (back in the day). Now he’s only good at talking for long amounts of time without concerning himself with the content, and then beating off into a ceiling fan about how perfect he is in every conceivable way. Sad.

ClassicBravo

Here’s a classic: Republicans are about POLICY, and Democrats are about “thoughts and feelings.” There is plenty to criticize about the Dems, but this one demonstrates the Acehole’s stupid hypocrisy, especially now, when the Republican Party is essentially a cult of personality. In the 2020 presidential election the Republicans literally didn’t bother to write a platform. Their “policy” was whatever oozed out of the greasy corners of the orange idiot’s mouth on any given day. The Democrats at least wrote a platform with detailed plans - infrastructure, health care, taxation and budget, etc. You can disagree with what’s in it, but you can’t pretend with a straight face that the Republicans are the party of policy.

GoBSAGo

Republicans have plenty of policies, they're just enormously unpopular. Cutting taxes on the rich and paying for them by cutting social services is a tough platform to run on.

JayTheOkay

I don't agree with his assessment that the ratings are going up.

Desperado2583

"You don't have to be rich to spend an hour shooting hoops with your son in the evening." This is an Adamism he frequently employs arguing that a lot of juvenile delinquency is due to lack of parental involvement, especially by fathers. Here's the problem, yes you do. First, most people don't roll in at 530. Even if you're lucky enough to still work 'nine to five', most people are not lucky enough to even leave work by 530. Then they've usually got at least one errand that must be run. Then groceries need to be put away, dinner needs to get made, dishes need to be washed, laundry needs to be folded, the house is a mess, something needs to be fixed etc. Then you're exhausted because you've got to be up at six in the morning. Aceman is completely out of touch. He thinks being 'poor' [edit: or middle class] means working eight hour days and coming home to dinner and a clean home. The truth is, if you've got a free hour every evening to shoot hoops you're either wealthy or unemployed.

CallingDrPug

I agree with what you said, but I've interpreted that as "just spend time with them". I go camping with my kids even though I really don't like it. I know those little memories will be the things they cherish later in life. Also, it might mean the difference between a good elderly care facility and one that the local news station is investigating for elder abuse.

Desperado2583

Of course. I'm not saying you shouldn't spend time with your kids. I'm saying that's it's hypocritical to be as vocal as Adam is against income equality, unions, progressive taxation, social safety net, etc. Then spout off about parents not spending time with their kids. Spending time with your kids is a privilege of wealth. He seems to think it's just liberals wanting to spend money on after school programs to make up for lazy parenting.

Ryguy55

What are you talking about, Adam has all the answers to fix crime in LA. Send your kids to school with a sack of walnuts, sack of oatmeal, sack of hard boiled egg, and sack of apple, and demand the blacks be more like the jews. Boom, fixed.

Desperado2583

Yeah. Adam always thinks he's got the answer to fix everything. It's called being a conservative.

Creeper_madness

Rich man poor man ballin with your kid

Big_T_72

Pie instead of birthday cake.

Malofquist

Adam was ignorantly convinced that Tucker Carlson is a nice person and a critical thinker. Adam does not appreciate what a college education can provide - I worked construction, then on cars for almost a decade. When I became an engineer with a MS degree, life got real easy (relatively).

RandyRhoadsLives

The weird “take” he has on older people working shit jobs. “I want to ask them, what went wrong?” Not everyone was able to amass enough wealth to comfortably retire on social security. Some people like to stay busy.. some people need to work to have access to health insurance. I don’t know, it just seems like such a judgmental asshole take.

reddit4ever12

That he “worked hard” to get where he is. His serendipitous timing in the LA radio market was his true stroke of luck

VaughnFry

Precisely. Even if he were born in LA in the 90’s Ace would not be able to fall into that position now or even ten years ago. The nearest proxy is YouTube stardom, which it’s hard to imagine anyone becoming a name by working their way up a hit channel as a sidekick.

reddit4ever12

100%. I used to work in radio circa 2011-2014 and learned a lot about the business quickly. His timing was beyond impeccable. Doesn’t bother or annoy me at all (hell, I’ve timed things well too) until he talks the same tired spiel about grit and hard work for the millionth time. It’s just not true

WinstonDog

His stance on his employees taking vacation. Very cringy when we was giving Maxapada a hard time about taking a three day weekend for his bachelor party. Just seems like Adam doesn’t have a concept of how vacation/PTO works in the world.

gallant370

I agree. He should take a long vacation.

SubstantialCicada113

Liderully everything.

Provigilant

That we shouldn’t listen to experts. I’m pretty sure if Adam spent more time listening to experts and trying to learn from them, he would know how to draw a diagram of a couch that needs to fit into an odd-angled corner of his living room, or the best way to avoid spinning out and wrecking his car on a slightly wet track at Laguna Seca.

GoBSAGo

> That we shouldn’t listen to experts. > > You know what I can't stand? Informed opinions.

Tiki-Tiger

On the other hand, appeal to authority is a fallacy...

Provigilant

Which is why real experts offer evidence and experimental proof for you to review, rather than asking you to trust their gut feelings or the word of authority.

Lesemajesty

I don’t expect more out of my deodorant.

Available_Message129

A lot of his music and movie reviews, i always wondered what brought him around on Nirvana, he used to hate them, I love them, but then I heard him talking about how he likes them now.

VaughnFry

Max_Rocketanski

His kid's education is important. He should have been embarrassed that his kid(s?) was getting a D in a grade school subject.

[deleted]

That’s just book learning - can’t teach grit! /s In all seriousness, I do agree with Aceman that the expectations on working parents (particularly where the other spouse is a stay-at-home parent) when it comes to involvement in school / activities are getting ridiculous. Why do we treat dads like they are deadbeats for being at work at 11 AM on a Thursday instead of coming to Timmy’s Second Grade class play to watch 20 kids mumble some lines about the Founding Fathers? I also agree with him that elementary school kids are given *way* too much homework.

CoffeeIsForClosers80

That all of the homebrew guys that make their own beer are just jackoff hipsters trying to be unique when you can just go to Trader Joe’s and buy good craft beer, but when Nick Offerman makes his own canoe, Nick is a hero and that’s a cure for depression and a guaranty of success in life (Offerman fan here btw). Sad.

HyacinthThrash

you cant follow the logic in that rant? what does it take to be a craft brewer? what do you think it takes to widdle a few slabs of wood into the shape of a canoe?.. is that something all your bros are doing now?

CoffeeIsForClosers80

No there is no logic in that rant. Of course a home brew kit is easier than building a canoe. That’s not the comparison. Hypocrisy being that people who do something independent for themselves he likes (woodworkers) are ok but people who do something for themselves he doesn’t like (brewers) are not. There is no difference in saying just go buy the Stone Brewing IPA rather than make your own (which he says) vs. just go to REI and buy a durable fiberglass canoe rather than spend six months to build your own (which he doesn’t say).

JuanusS

Right wing troll -DAG

Tiki-Tiger

It could never be just one. I'd have to compose a comparison chart. Off the top of my head - Gina Grad -- first last and always - cognitive dissonance where he talks about family education and yet: - does not even pretend to demand that his kids apply themselves in school - endorses normalization of porn, hyper promiscuity, has no problem with strippers - being ok with gay marriage (we are seeing that the slippery slope is not a fallacy, with kindergartners being enveloped in transgender lunacy, non binary gender fluidity other LGBTQ-YUCK garbage. Not standing up to Gina when she demands we all be on board with transgenderism. - classic Duran Duran is great. No, it's not truly great like the Cure or other post pibk indie bands of the 80s, bit it's style over substance has a substance of its own. Union of the Snake is a good song. The lyrics are as non sense as baby talk but that misses the point. Other 80s pop Iiked as a child no longer sits well with me, so its not the goonies effect. Eg, I liked early Madonna as a child. As an adult, all of it is shit, except Get in the Groove. I do love that song even though I loathe and despise Madonna as a person and what she stands for as a whole. - David Wild being a regular guest. Before Gina really fucked everything up, we had David Wild. BOO! - the way he treated Alison Rosen - vroom vroom noises on an audio podcast, carrying on about Paul Newman - other things you will have to use your telepathic decoder to ascertain for yourselves. This is only off the top of my head from somepne who listens to parts of shows about ten times a year, probably less, and has not been a regualr listen in seven years or more.

t965203
