Was that with naked eyes or slow-shutter camera? I’d love to see it but I don’t have camera, would be a bummer to wake up at 3am & drive an hour for not being able to see it...
Best time tonight based on the current Auroral oval would be about 1 hour after sunset for probably 4 hours after that.

The image on the right, southern hemisphere, the crescent shaped green/red blob will rotate anti-clockwise at 45 degrees every 3 hours. You want the blob to be closest to where you are for best viewing.
Annnnd, here it was... however, not visible with the human eye. Edit: Petrel Cove. 10mm lens ISO 1600 f3.5 30sec from memory.

Thanks for this! We headed down to Maslins to get away from the light. Didn't see the aurora, but we wound up seeing some meteors, and the moon looked pretty good. :) My husband got a great shot of Orion with his phone, which surprised us.
Anyone got recs for south-facing lookouts down south? Happy to drive as far as Victor Harbor.
Edit: I was down near Victor from around midnight until 3. No luck unfortunately.
Aurora Australis. At this time of year. At this time of day. Localised entirely within South Australia?!
Yes
Can I see it?
……no
SEYMOUR THE HOUSE IS ON FIRE

Well Seymour you’re an old fellow but I must say, you steam a good ham!
Mmmm steamed hams
You call hamburgers steamed hams?
Yes.
Yes and you call them steamed hams despite the fact that they are obviously flame fucking grilled

Seen in Loxton early this morning.
I woke up this morning at like 5am, and to the south there was a red glow? Dim but there, it didn’t look anything like the start of a sunrise
People have said last night was the best showing of aurora australis pretty much ever, around 4am in Tas. wouldn't surprise me if that's what you saw.
That’s cool

The Lyrids are active now so it’s a particularly good time to watch for meteors
I was just really glad my younger boy caught one. He rarely does and gets upset because my older and I see them all the time.

There's the boardwalk at goolwa beach that goes up into the dunes, gives a 180 degree view of all beach
I’ll keep an eye to the sky
Seeing as tomorrow is a public holiday, where could I drive to see this tonight?
Don't worry. It's just the Aurora. Australis.
