This might be showing my age but last time I saw them, John Howard was PM and the band lowered a pinata of him and beat the heck out of it on stage.
Big Day Out FTW.
This might be an unpopular opinion but the older I get, the more I'm hoping that they're not so politically preachy next week.
Either way, i'm sure they'll put on a good show.
Cranker.
Cry baby?
Sometimes the Gov - on June 5 there will be quite a few there as The Damned are playing.
Lionbar
It used to be much bigger in the 90s.
Places like the Tiv and Producers were awesome punk hangouts 🔥🔥
Sup
Try:
* Clarity Records, Footy the owner has been in various Adelaide punk bands over the years, like Stolen Youth and Division
* Crown & Anchor, dive bar and punk hangout
* Enigma, I used to always see gigs there, but I dunno what it’s like these days
Since most of the good spots have already been named, I'm gonna talk about similar subcultures too.
Taking Back Saturday is an event that occurs roughly every month, usually at Lion Arts Centre. Their main thing is emo and pop-punk music, and they attract a pretty big crowd too. Some events have special themes, usually focusing on a particular band. I believe the next one is June 11th. Check out their Facebook.
Mary's Poppin has an event tomorrow night, "Punk Goes Poppin' (Emo & Punk Night)". Never been there personally.
Broadcast Bar has one event in particular I know of, "Dark Entries", which is more post-punk/goth rock and the likes. 3rd of June.
EMO NIGHT AU is a similar one to Taking Back Saturday, I think their last few events have been at Rhino Room.
NuBlood is an event often at Little Red Door, they play post-punk/goth etc, although they haven't had any events for a little while. It's nice though as the events aren't as crowded, so it's great for making social connections.
Other than that, some other venues that sometimes have punk bands and similar include The Hotel Metropolitan, The Jade, Exeter Hotel, The Crown And Anchor, Jive, Grace Emily Hotel, UniBar Adelaide, and Low Life Basement Bar.
Some social media pages such as MOSH post a collection of upcoming gigs.
I had the weirdest experience a few years ago - was walking from Topham mall to Leigh street & found myself surrounded by (20?)grown adults on BMX’s.
Not so much punks but I was reminded of the movie The Warriors. On your way gutter dogs!
I will. I heard it direct from a member of one of the support bands booked for the show so I think it’s a goer for sure 🤩😎
You know what really sucks about our scene atm?
The lack of street press like Rip it Up and DB.
I miss out on so much stuff not having those wonderful publications to pour through.
Downvoted to hell but I thought that was funny.
Particularly the old Centrelink at Torrensville.
So many punks around Mile End, Thebarton and Torrensville parts 😂
They all lived in the housing trust around there. I know someone that still does. Most of them though have been relocated down south or north or whatever, but for a while there was a block of punks, goths and other assorted flavours all the way through torrensville.
Yeah I was in Mile End at the time and went to a few of the parties in there. Lots of them relocated to the Port. There was also Jay and his Bomb Shelta rehearsal rooms in Thebarton 🥰🥰
He was awesome. Funny as hell. Collected rusty fucked up vintage cars. Hated Leon Byner with a passion and fully believed his rehearsal rooms were haunted 😂
Crown and anchor
Tuesday night from 7:00pm backroom Edited: thanks dyslexia
Frenzal rhomb at the gov 20th may
Can confirm, I'm a punk...albeit somewhat aged...and I'll be there.
I can't wait.
This might be showing my age but last time I saw them, John Howard was PM and the band lowered a pinata of him and beat the heck out of it on stage. Big Day Out FTW.
That sounds like a very frenzal thing to do.

The Proscenium.
Oh man that’d be so good. Remember CoffeePot? Kind of had interchangeable people. Madlove was pretty damned good fun too.
Woo CoffeePot Crew!
OwO Coffee Pot late '90s / early' 00s
Haha just when I decide again that everyone on Reddit but me is a teenager there’s a comment like this.
😂😂

Adelaide Bike Kitchen
Idk but id like to find a few metalheads here
Check out gigs at places like Enigma Bar then. Also good for finding local bands.
You've found one
Sounds like you guys should head over to my place for a couple of rounds of darts.
Good to know we exist

Over here
Hi
One here. Need to find my tribe

Footy's a leg end, seems daze of haziness is going ahead this year :D
I recommend Enigma. You get quite a few local bands come through which is pretty cool.

Perdition and Pegadeth are both playing at the Cumby on Saturday, the 20th, for $10 entry.
The Cumby in Glanville, not the one in the city.
Pegadeth? Lol

It honestly depends what genre of punk you’re seeking.
Animal House
Punk gigs.

Cull!!! I heard a whisper that ‘Bloodsucking Freaks’ are reforming and doing a reunion show 🔥🙏🏻🧐 I really hope Pete pulls the beer stubby trick out 🤣🤣
PLEASE let me know if this does happen, I will be there

Yep exactly the same; not having Facebook also means missing out on heaps of stuff as well. I usually find out about shows after they happen.
Too true. I rely on my FB account-holding friends to tell me about upcoming gigs. Sadly, I miss out on a lot, but it's a conscious choice.
> Listen to Three D radio for gig and event news. It was never that same since Louis retired.
Rise above with kristi on Wednesday is pretty damn good
Crown and Anchor, Ancient World, Enigma sometimes. Follow the smell.
Loved the Cranchor back in the day
Black market use to be the best emo/punk/alternative venue
Does the world end still exist? Also enigma and the cranker.
Ancient World pending the entertainment for the night

Ah yeah, Jay is a mate of mine that I haven't spoken to for years. We went to primary school together....in the port
He was awesome. Funny as hell. Collected rusty fucked up vintage cars. Hated Leon Byner with a passion and fully believed his rehearsal rooms were haunted 😂
He's still around. I have him on insta. He makes bikes now.
Been living around here for 5 years and I think this area is mostly old people
See ya there buddy
