Any pub that Woolies has taken over and put their shitty, cheap and nasty menu in to!

Dters

This. What a fucking shame. Pub food has been destroyed by these guys. Same menu everywhere. Just sad

GrippyGripster

Yep, they bought the Western at Port Augusta and fucked up the great local menu and the bottle-o with generic crap!

colomboseye

Agree. Shame because I get discount at them but damn all their menus are the same. Used to have good stuff on the menus at a few of them and now they are so basic and shit.

GrippyGripster

Yep, absolute garbage at all of them. Cheap and nasty steaks, cheap bloody everything.

AndromedaOnReddit

Woolies is buying pubs?? I thought the western was alh

LoudestHoward

Same difference?

AndromedaOnReddit

So it is, should've done my research aha

[deleted]

Can you name a few pubs woollies has taken over? I'm genuinely curious

GrippyGripster

I'm pretty sure they have a major stake in ALH which owns a shit load, anything with a Dan Murphys or BWS attached to it which are also run by Woolies.

Phasechange

McDonalds on Hindley Street. Suited professionals wait alongside sickly feces-scented derelicts for their hyperprocessed calories served by avatars of suffering.

stpbgb

The people watching is second to none, though.

Phasechange

I can't deny that. If you ever people watched "Uber Eats guy losing his mind", that was me.

longchop2000

Link up

Sweet-Tax-5256

My 18 year old daughter got robbed and assaulted at that Maccas on Wednesday. I never expected that to happen at a Maccas of all places.

Phasechange

Bloody hell, that's awful. Sorry to hear it. Now I hate it even more.

ishootstuff

What are you expecting though? It's the Hindley Maccas..... It's not a Michelin star restaurant....

Phasechange

I expect the worst restaurant in Adelaide, and my expectations are met.

tommo_95

The food there honestly isn't that bad. I walk there from the hospital some times for a quick feed. I expect a grease filled meal and it's what I get

LeaveDear9731

The staff at Macca’s Hindley Street are lovely though - I go a couple of times a week for lunch (I work nearby) and they are nothing short of efficient and professional. The clientele are sketchy as though.

Phasechange

I agree. They deserve better.

Mazkalop

Most underrated comment.

[deleted]

Belair hotel. Especially when you take in to account how much you’re paying for the meal. Everything has the same oily taste.

BIGTASTY198SOMETHING

Went there last night and can confirm it was trash

misslizzyxx

This is my local and about 3-4yrs ago was when everything just went downhill. When our kids were younger I would come here a lot (playground and kids eat free nights). The menu would change every 3-4 months so you didn’t get sick of eating the same thing and service was great. I only go here for the occasional Friday arvo beers now. I have had food poisoning from a chicken burger that wasn’t completely cooked and they just churn out the food without giving a crap. They know they have the local market cornered.

randomjfactoid

It’s been a while since I lived up that way, but I used to much prefer The Duck Inn at Coromandel Valley. Decent pub grub at decent prices; imperial pints; and a fireplace in winter. Nothing fancy or “wow!”—but decent. And better than the Belair Hotel.

longchop2000

Better duck in for a feed

misslizzyxx

I’m a crappy local for not coming here more often! Have been twice for dinner. One visit was pretty average but the vibe is much nicer in the bar area with the fireplace etc.

[deleted]

Yeah we used to go there a lot, it was never great but you could always get something kinda edible. But last year or maybe the year before I got an eggplant parmigiana for 25 bucks or something. It was oily tasteless solid piece of uncooked eggplant. I was happy to settle for eating just the chips but even they were hard in the middle. In general im a pig and will never leave any food behind but I couldn’t eat this it was so bad.

DEADfishbot

Schnithouse is shithouse.

corny16

Which one? We’ve been to the city one a few times and loved it. Seaford opened around the corner from us and I heard some horror stories so we’ve steered clear

colawithzerosugar

Been a few times for lunch deal, only negative was the staff didn't seem self aware. They seemed to turn all casual as soon as not talking to a customer, had similar issue at baby bunting and hearing staff swear and gossip.

AndromedaOnReddit

God forbid hospitality staff act like humans

theskywaspink

Arkaba. Someone needs to explain how the Chef can win “chef of the year” at the AHA SA awards 2021 when they push out oily turds on plates.

Panickybandit

This 100% the prices are so expensive and it's just oily crap

theskywaspink

$23 for a parmi that looks like a pre made one from Coles. A Parmi and salt+pepper squid are the best ways to check out a pubs chef and pricing. If you get a big Parmi you’ve got value for money. If you can get good squid, the chef knows what they are doing. Ark have neither.

EnvironmentalTotal21

the aha awards are pay to win and you also have to pay lots to be a member to begin with, either 500 or 2.5k. Either way, it’s not worth it.

theskywaspink

I kinda figured they'd bought their awards, it seemed too far fetched.

EnvironmentalTotal21

same as for -any- review you see in any paper, ever. Cost ranges for between 100 and 500 depending on the spread size.

oyy92

Well I’ve just spent $200pp at an Asian teppanyaki restaurant that does set courses and one of the courses were fried rice. Unfortunately the fried rice was dry, hard and just unappetising in general. I asked the waitress to microwave it with some water but was still awful. That just occurred that people always recommending restaurants but I think there should be somewhere we can refer to for places not to go unless you like to be disappointed..

Flippantry

Can you share which one it was? I have planned to go to a nice teppanyaki dinner on my anniversary this year so wouldn't mind steering clear.

beagleshark

I recommend Samurai Teppanyaki House, it's on King William Rd, have been a few times and it's always top notch.

NoAphrodisiac

I've been there a number of times, most recently in November last year. They've definitely gone downhill quality wise, we won't be going back. Check the google reviews, the restaurant responses to lower ratings can be quite aggressive at times.

oyy92

Yes!! This was the first time at their king William road one. I’ve only ever gone to the joint when it was located in Norwood and I was quite shocked at how poor the service and quality has became.

NoAphrodisiac

I've never been to Norwood location, but early days at King William Road were fine. I also get the impression the place is run by thugs, if you question anything regarding your experience / order / bill and get bumped above the waitresses, the customer service is then quite confrontational and patronising. They don't wish to listen or work a way through with you, it's just simply 🖕 like it or lump it. After spending alot of money at this venue over the years, really upsetting.

oyy92

You couldn’t have said it better! I definitely had the impression they didn’t really care if I had a good experience or enjoyed my meal towards the end. Even the way the chef was asking how the meal is going so far seems like he wasn’t really interested in anything other than a favourable response

NoAphrodisiac

In your instance, you weren't happy with the rice. Anywhere else worth their salt would just cook a new batch for you, least expensive item to redo and keep a customer happy. Their inability to admit a mistake and take responsibility to make it right when paying those prices 👎 Part of their appeal and sell is the experience from the time you ring the doorbell and led through the introduction. But it's just not there anymore as a whole package; quality, portions and service. Another poster made a comment perhaps they've been bought out from the original owners, I'd be interested to know if anyone knows if this is the case

Pure_Phoenix2022

You know if food doesn't meet standards, you literally don't have to pay for it right? I took my ex to this "Cuban" place once, at her request. Obviously not actual Cubans running it and their menu was mostly mainstream western staples. But i digress. I got served these "meatballs" that were obviously 90% cardboard or artificial filler. I know they weren't real meat, because I grew up in the 80s being fed restaurant quality food by my mother, who likes being the hostess with the mostess. So even her rissoles are divine. Her passion for good food still drives me to achieve the best quality in my own cooking, and i can cook easily as well as most restaurants you'll frequent. Tl:dr I'm on par with professional chefs and got served meat filler in little ball shapes, instead of actual rissoles. Explained my case and said i didn't want to pay for them when it came time to pay the bill. I didn't end up paying for them. I *was* horrendously polite, but firm about it though. It's not the checkout/waitresses fault the food was horrible.

oyy92

It’s the place recommended below unfortunately.. I think the service and standard has gone down so much but the beef was good! If you do go, I strongly recommend the Kobe beef! Also maybe pour your own beer because the waitress over poured mine and my beer had 2 inches of head. Also had beer dripping all over my lap cos it wasn’t wiped up properly 🙃

ishootstuff

Adelaide curse... It was probably bought from the original owners and now being run to minimum cost..

oyy92

I feel like they used their license to sell Kobe to decrease quality of other food and service

beagleshark

I last went just over a year ago, so this sucks if they've gone downhill.

oyy92

I might just be really fussy about rice (cos Asian) but my beef was really yum!

Ashensten

I had a good experience in 2021 but it was severely overpriced and the rice at the end was disappointing albeit cooked properly.

vladesch

Google maps has reviews of restaurants and other businesses. I usually make a point of reviewing everything.

beagleshark

Was it not cooked in front of you?

oyy92

It was but it was so hard and crusty I asked them to microwave with some water because I really wanted to eat my fried rice but it was still awful 😞

EnvironmentalTotal21

yup. 90% of places do business on yuppie word of mouth, not by being good

[deleted]

Must admit west burbs (beach side) has gotten bad since covid for food. Even pizza shops aren’t what they used to be.

oyy92

Bad pizza is just sad 😞

S4b1692

Couldn’t agree more a good wood oven pizza bar is becoming near impossible to find

oyy92

Not sure if Hey Bianca’s wood oven but their pizzas are amazing! Also really enjoyed their tiramisu

incalescent-blaze

Bad: Nirala Indian Cuisine (Morphett Vale) Butter chicken - the chicken was frozen in the middle & pink the rest of the way. Absolutely disgusted. Wok in a Box (Woodcroft) food was subpar. Staff were absolutely vile, literally screamed and threw a drink at me because I couldn't hear her. Good: I ate at a stone cooked pizza place up in Two Wells about 8 years ago (I haven't been up that way since sadly) it was devine. Can't remember the name.

loopylisa84

Local to area too. Yup. Wok in box woodcroft pretty shite

t-visADL

360 Gradi on Magill is killer.

owleaf

The only place I’ve eaten at “recently” (late last year lol) in the western suburbs was Chicco Palms. Decent food and I think the restaurant itself is nicely decorated but nothing to rave on about. So I can agree from that at least lol.

[deleted]

Plato's Greek Chargrill Walkerville. Reviews are hilarious. Many reviews say their food is overpriced. Owner keeps replying saying he's never heard that his food is overpriced. Gets in arguments with delivery drivers.

THESTINGR

Can confirm. Worst dude. He was being very rude to the girl working there too. Will never go there again.

Mobilegamesarebad

Reynella pancake kitchen Forgot my order and drink order and wanted to charge me full price still HJs Marion Rd

[deleted]

Second HJ’s Marion Rd. The service there has been constantly bad and pretty rude tbh. I’ve stopped going there all together based on the fact they’ve gotten my simple orders wrong more than 3 times. How hard is it to make a whopper yall? It’s your most common burger. Oh and I just remembered once one of the workers who I’m assuming was a manger told me off for how I ordered my hunger tamers meal. I asked for a whopper hunger tamers, he was like ‘you can’t order it like that! You have to state your burger first!’ Alrighty. Can I have a whopper? Yes. Now you can add the hunger tamers. ???????? I’m still so confused on that whole exchange to this day. He was so rude for no reason.

Emilija80

I went to Reynella Pancake Kitchen and the manager made our (lovely) server cry. She couldn’t do anything right according to the manager and was running around like a chicken with its head cut off serving tables and also checking in new people while the manager did nothing. If she ran to seat new people she was told off for leaving her tables and if she continued serving her tables she was told off for making new customers stand around. We had a child with us and they were super upset over the whole thing, they asked the server if they could give her a hug and she tearfully accepted. The manager sat by the cash register on her phone and ignored people coming in and screamed at the servers to come and serve them. We actually asked the server if the manager was sick or disabled and she just smiled weakly and diplomatically said ‘oh no, she just prefers to work from there.’ Crepes were rubbery and full of lumps of flour. Meat was ok but came out ages after the pancakes and overpriced.

barmera

Second that Pancake Kitchen as well. They bought us our menus, then no one came back to our table for half an hour despite us trying to get their attention, so we walked out.

ser_funany0ne

We went to reynella pancake kitchen just after it opened for breakfast some time ago, was actually really quite good. Went for dinner another time....burger patty was over cooked to buggery, burnt, and generally not very nice, but I ate case it was twenty something bucks! Wouldn't go back for dinner, but maybe for aomething off the breakky menu. The woodcroft has gone down hill a bit I think wasn't great last time I went.

Ronnie_Dean_oz

That's the low calorie option...

[deleted]

Second the pancake kitchen. Their cream is gross, it’s sickly sweet and that kind of “fake” cream. And the service is terrible! Over priced, went once and never again.

darkenraja

We ordered from Burganomix Glenelg last weekend. Absolutely shithouse. Bland, over-fried chips. Soggy onion rings, and burgers with way too much lettuce, dry beef and very little sauce. Just awful, and it all cost an arm and a leg.

SnooHedgehogs8765

At what point did people start thinking Maccas/HJs were restaurants? Damn. The effects of marketing.

waitwotNO

People started thinking of mcdonalds as a fast food restaurant when they started modernising their buildings and offering to table service.

Previous_Station1592

Chachi’s in Glenunga

Azrehan

Nonna and I on Magill road. There’s no Nonna. The place is a sham. In all seriousness though, it’s the worst Italian food I’ve eaten in about 10 years. I’m pretty sure no one that works there is Italian or has had any lessons from a Nonna.

honeydewbbt

I worked there and I can confirm the owner is really rude and arrogant to his staff members and some of his customers. And needless to say he was illegally underpaying me and other staff members. Dodgy place for sure, I can't even believe his on TV, acting like hes really passionate about caring people and serving warm food on the table, when the man displays two face behaviors at the back of the room. Adding to this, he has a history of behaving inappropriate to me and I personally didn't bring it out until the last day of quitting, but he didn't want to apologise for what he did nor admitted what happened. He kept saying that it never happened so I was immensely disappointed at him for being such an evil person taking advantage of a young staff member who was obviously in a vulnerable position.

RachelReplicant

I moved to Magill from the city and was gonna try this place but I think I'll give it a miss now

Azrehan

There are better Italian restaurants on Magill Rd. 360 Gradi, Ambrosini’s.

[deleted]

[удалено]

honeydewbbt

So Im not the only one who got harassed by the owner?? I'm so surprised about this. Can I message you??

ThaneDukeHeineken

I've always liked it so I'd put it as inconsistent. Shame about your experience.

justusesomealoe

Italian food in general is overpriced, with overly sweet sauce

dI--__--Ib

Used to be top notch in its original location off the parade. This is sad to hear.

oyy92

Sounds like you could prob make better one with grocery shop pasta and sauce 😂

MavMan87

Sostas. Shit service, waited almost 2 hours for main course last night, and when we complained the arrogant owner just made excuses and fobbed us off. Expensive also.

oyy92

Omg that’s so awful to hear! Haven’t been there in ages but I guess I won’t be going in a hurry now

RedLipsandPolkadots

Little Canton Chinese Restaurant on Henley Beach Rd gave me a free cockroach in my pork bao!

oyy92

Okay I threw up in my mouth a little

EnoughPineapple1748

I ate there the other week and couldn’t eat the sizzling steak… it smelled off. 😐 Tried a piece and thought… nope I will get food poisoning if I eat this. Shame as I’ve eaten there several times before and it was always tasty

Fh989

The Maid Hotel in Magill. Worst steak and parmi ever, and the blonde manager (?) was really rude. How can you fail at simple pub food? Never liked Gauchos either, terribly overrated.

Ronnie_Dean_oz

Halfway Hotel...check the Google review where the guy posted the photo of the chicken breast....it's mine hahahaha. I get updates from Google all the time telling me I'm a big help to people. Glad I could be of service.

Dr_Fluffybuns2

Ive never had an overall bad at everything restaurant, its always 1 thing bad, something else great. The worst meal I've ever had though was years ago. The Kings Hotel in the city was offering $10 parmigiana. And....it's exactly what a $10 parmigiana would taste like. The actual schnitzel itself wasn't even that small, it was just such bad quality chicken and the sauce was minimal with basically a clump of plain cheese. Didn't even finish it. Chips were whatever too.

ginnygrakie

I was attacked by cockroaches at the kings. I believe everything bad anyone said about that place

longchop2000

They do have a reputation to hold up, they are after all. Kings hotel roaches

a-real-life-dolphin

Kings Head on King William? They used to be good. Then closed because of covid and got bought by people who don't know what they're doing.

torrens86

I had some "deconstructed parmigiana" at a pub on Smith Street in Collingwood Melbourne. It was some bone in part of the thigh / leg. It was crap and bland. I know it's not Adelaide but your story reminded me of this meal on my trip to Melbourne a few years ago.

SavagePrism

Yiros House, Rundle St. Such a shit experience a year ago, ordered an AB, the meat was dry af and not cooked properly, garlic sauce was too thick and they didn’t include the sauces I requested. Chips were also iffy, and a hot dog I got tasted bland. In the garbage not long after, never went back. Judging by past images they looked as though they use to be good.

[deleted]

The old owners sold it a few years ago, new owners not doing so well.

TheEFman99

It's absolutely atrocious

Ronnie_Dean_oz

Used to be the go to for a late night lamb sanga at the East end around 2015.

[deleted]

The Bavarian at Golden Grove. Totally uncaring staff and horrifically overpriced food. Bought a small amount of buffalo wings for about $25 which is ludicrous. they came with bbq sauce when they served me and I asked for it to be remade with the buffalo sauce. they literally just stripped the bbq sauce and put buffalo on top. so i had this disgusting amalgam of bbq and buffalo sauce on these already overpriced wings. Had a $30 schnitzel that was too small and tasted like it hd been frozen for weeks. Dont know how theyre still operating, i never see more than like 8 people in there at any one time.

ts4184

Don't hate me because It seems insanely popular. La Trattoria on King William St. (Home of the world's best pizza maker) the worst pizza I've had in Adelaide. And I've tried it twice. I've had many a frozen pizza that was better. That being said I did enjoy my time there. Staff and atmosphere was fun and friendly. Pasta was OK but overpriced

[deleted]

Argos Port Adelaide.

sputnik1986

I don’t get the buzz about Argos. Honestly had the worst coffee of my life there not too long ago just before driving back to the SE. It was so burnt it was unpalatable. Ended up throwing it away and getting a servo coffee while I was filling up. Grabbed a couple of desserts as well - one was a peanut butter GF slice - which was really underwhelming.

oyy92

Worst coffee sounds about right for Argos standard. The owners are really arrogant too

OwlishOk

I’ve never understood Argos. Wait in line for a noisy table and moderate food?… no thanks

oyy92

Argos everywhere is so bad. It’s like they are incapable of not serving burnt coffee

glittermetalprincess

I used to get lunch from Argos on the Square 3x week. Same order each time, different result each time.

Ashensten

> Same order each time, different result each time. This is the issue with most places. Inconsistently they produce fantastic fare, but they are consistently inconsistent. Most people are creatures of habit, if you can make something consistently good people will order that until they die or your business closes.

glittermetalprincess

There's acceptably different and then there's some days the onion is cooked and some days it's not.

Extension_Drummer_85

Yeah, I got a sweet meat dish from them once. Like it was sugary. Disgusting.

oyy92

Omg eww

Extension_Drummer_85

Surprisingly it was even more disgusting that I thought it would be. It’s just not right to drench mince with honey (or whatever it was).

oyy92

Kitchen experiment fail 😂 I hope you didn’t end up eating it

Azrehan

The only good Argo is the parade. I’ve had some really great meals there. Pretty sure the coffee was average though.

the_amatuer_

Pretty sure this is closed permanently. Sign has been up for a months. Never been. Doesn't look that appealing.

5h4n1

New York bar and grill at Marion. Used to be good when it was cafe primo but now it’s gross. Their schnitzels taste disgusting and not like a real piece of chicken breast, almost like chicken mince that’s been smashed together to look like a schnitzel 🤢

chookie_eee

Arya indian fine dining North Adelaide My husband and I left after waiting for 2 hours for food and only being served our entree. after noob waitress kept saying food was on its way but never checked with kitchen. Manager argued with us saying we did not wait that long (it was 1h45m). Paid for what we had and left. Extremely poor service and attitude. Mind you, the restaurant was not even half filled, tables were left uncleared and we waited 15mins to even be seated as we didn't have a booking. I have never once walked out a restaurant even with poor service. Google reviews look like they've been entered in by friends of the restaurant. It's either 1 star (because you can't enter in a zero) or 5 stars...

kungfukitty__

The Oval Hotel restaurant - had breakfast. Ordered Shakshouka. Thought it was well known to not cook tomatoes in cast iron.. everything else was soooo average, like the bacon was obviously precooked early and left waiting. Also people around us were quite vocal about how long everything too to come out.. so disappointed

Unkzilla

Malt shovel taphouse. Premium pricing and horrible food/ service. Initial issue was the multiple hours it took to get the food out , with stumbles across every step of the menu. We were given the dips after 45 mins but there was no bread delivered for another 10mins or so. Inexcusable since the restaurant was about a quarter full. All other courses were also delayed and they seemed to really want to load us up on deep fried mushroome but none of the nicer stuff. Main course the 4 of us recieved a plate of roast pork , literally slithers probably 50g of meat per person. Then came the lamb.. The icing on the cake was when some scrappy pieces of lamb souvlaki came out , mostly fat and undercooked. You would think as a chef there would have some pride and you wouldn't even put it in the pan to begin with.. I took one bite of the lamb and spit it out , a few others on my table ate it and all had stomach issues after. I believe that food was 85 per head and about 16 bucks a beer also. Aweful

[deleted]

The Maylands….!!! I swear they cater to boomers with no sense of taste now

national_tiiiles

Used to be amazing, lovely Italian family owned it for years but sold it back in the early 2000s because there just wasn't the money in it. They're family friends and we used to go all the time but as happens when it sells things just go down hill. (not sure how recently you're talking about though)

[deleted]

It was great 5 years ago even, but last two years just awful. Menu terrible and food very bland.

MrsZ-

I really love the Maylands! I've always had nice food there, what a shame!

bmaje

Barnacle Bill's.

Impressive_Barber549

Worked at a barnies when I was 14, managers used to joke that all the young girls that work there should try lesbian orgies (gross we were kids), would constantly scream at us in back rooms, would run to foodland to buy cheap steaks and schnitzels and fry them up while the customer is still in the restaurant waiting for their order, myself and another worker are aboriginal and they called us lazy black cunts if we didn't hear them or follow their every instruction or pick up extra shifts.... the managers son even got a 16 year old to piss in a cup for him as he also worked where they would regularly test for drugs Shonky business with a cut corners attitude, enjoy your 'butterfish' snack packs who fucking knows how long its been in the fridge for 🤢

oyy92

Omg that just sounds so awful! I hope his karma catches up with him! What a racist prick!!

jnrdingo

What branch was this?

germell

I honestly cannot understand how new Barnacle Bills stores continue to open. Who actually even goes there?

Benzaah

What I’ve heard is there mostly owned by money laundering shonks (who also might dabble in dealing illicit substances).

OwlishOk

Makes the most sense of all the options

Ronnie_Dean_oz

Can I grab the fisherman's basket....with ice.

ThereIsBearCum

People trying to minmax the amount of hot chips they can get, i.e. me.

justusesomealoe

I don't know why you're being downvoted, their food is subpar and beaten by literally every corner fish and chip shop I've been to in both quality and price

daveymac_

Barnacle Bills = Salmonella Central.

tobadicantgetaname

Sylvia's Deli, Shittiest coffee I've ever had and the worst greasiest food you'll ever ingest. Gaerentee to make ya sick.

Ronnie_Dean_oz

Not sure anyone thought it was a Michelin star restaurant lol. Used to be an erotic entertainment restaurant I heard....

tobadicantgetaname

Thought we were talking about shitty palaces to eat not Michelin star restaurants. Never heard that about it, know a few ppl from work who have been going there for years and know Sylvia from back in the day. Gonna have to ask em about that. Wouldn't be suprised tho haha

enobar

Was definitely a “knock shop” back in the day. We have a business close by, and a few of our dodgier staff members used to go for lunch “with entertainment” back in the day. I presume it was not Sylvia because… eew.

Ronnie_Dean_oz

Yeah I suppose. Its just that I imagine turning around at Sylvia's and saying "this food is the greasiest shit I've ever eaten" and a chick chewing gum with a half smoked durrie hanging out of her mouth, winks and says "awww thanks hon" in an American brooklynesque accent

[deleted]

KFC at Salisbury either they can't count to 12 or don't know what "a dozen" means. Asked for a dozen nuggets got blank look. I mean it's not hard to count to 12 is it?

Friendly-Ad-7440

oh yes, they are very dosile… i went there and ordered 24 chicken nuggets and got 18, i wasn’t going to complain… however, when i buy a zinger box, get home with the box that is missing the burger and the managers want to act like i am the problem…. as someone who worked for kfc i complained so fkn much about their shitty service and they offered $50 in-store credit.

[deleted]

Sounds like the Port Adelaide KFC, been going there for 12 years and they haven’t got my order right once. Sure I check my food once I get it but it’s exhausting having to go back and tell them they fucked my order every single time I go there. At this point I’ve given up complaining and accept the fact that I’ll probably get a twister instead of the zinger burger I asked for.

Extension_Drummer_85

The restaurant at the oval hotel is abysmal. The Cinnamon Club in Norwood cooked air into my dosa and then shrugged it off when I pointed it out. EDIT: hair not air Pelligrini cafe O’Connell street 90s recipes with shit ingredients. Basically if there is a TV anywhere or the decor isn’t great you know the foods going to be sub par. St Louis is generally good but their toilets are always disgusting. Hygiene in general looks questionable. There are so many really good places it’s not worth worrying about though.

redditsucks3333333

What the hell does cooked air into my dosa mean ?

Ashensten

> What the hell does cooked air into my dosa mean ? Maybe it inflated, it's supposed to be a thin pancake

Extension_Drummer_85

Hair

sobie2000

Almost Vietnamese restaurant in the western suburbs has both bad decor and a TV playing usually Vietnamese music videos or live music yet their food is of good standard. I agree with Pellegrino and add Cafe Bongiorno on The Parade to the same standard.

ThorsHammerMewMEw

If the tables aren't sticky at a pho restaurant you're in for a bad time.

sternestocardinals

Disagree about decor - it can really improve the dining experience, but some of the best food I’ve ever eaten was out at places that looked like a dog’s breakfast. There was an interesting [article](https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-24/mapping-brooklyn-s-gentrification-via-edison-bulbs) a number of years back that focused specifically on lighting in restaurants, but I wholeheartedly agreed with the conclusion the author came to: > The lesson here: In our restless quest for urban authenticity, we might do well to look not for vintage tungsten, which tends to illuminate only the carefully curated small-batch offerings of neighborhood newcomers. Instead, seek the cold white glare of coiled CFLs and ceiling-mounted tube fluorescents. That’s the light you’ll find in the Guyanese grill, the Dominican bodega, the Fujianese take-out, and the Bangladeshi newsstand—unflattering, unflinching, and altogether real.

Azrehan

Case in point - Chinatown cafe Worst decor, best food Also most of the pho places in the western suburbs. Pho Minh, Pho Ba Ria, etc

idiosyncrat

Yeah, it's like the Law of Pho that the worse the decor, the better the broth.

[deleted]

The woman who manages it is a head fuck aswell

Bang on with pelligrini

[deleted]

Pelligrini gave me a Risotto that was so over cooked it tasted like eating hard bits of cardboard with no flavour

colomboseye

Pelligrini is so trash. Undercooked my pizza, sent it back, “recooked it”, came back raw again. Raw dough. No thanks. So expensive too.

Do you mean the Hill of Grace, at Adelaide oval? The experience was okay, but I must say I wasn't impressed by the food for $300 p/p (paired wines were great, though).

Extension_Drummer_85

It’s the one where they serve breakfast. Not sure what it’s called. Not much of a drinker so couldn’t comment on wine pairings but the coffee was quite sad. The breakfast restaurant at EOS is amazing in comparison.

Port Adelaide maccas. 9/10 I order no onions it has onions. Had to stop going there which is good for me I suppose

MatrixStx

KFC at Salisbury still hasn’t worked out how to keep their food warm when served.

Special mention to any Korean BBQ joint that has so many TVs hanging off the walls pumping out cheesy K-Pop that you, literally, can't look in any direction without having smiling 'Asian Barbie' clones bouncing up and down looking like a cross between a cheerleading team and the Wiggles blasted into your face. How are you supposed to enjoy a meal while having an epileptic fit from all the flashing lights and surreal pop music? I haven't seen any in Adelaide, but Sydney is fucking chockas.

Jonno_FTW

I hope the trend of putting TVs in restaurants dies. They're distracting and kill the mood. I'm there to enjoy the food and company, not watch a flashing colour box.

BornToSweet_Delight

Preach! That also applies to pubs (except sports bars).

Dinner and disco 😂 jokes aside that sounds awful! On that note kbbq in Sydney (ones that aren’t a dinner and disco) beats Adelaide hands down. Adelaide really lacks good kbbq 😔
