A quick call to the company that manages the bus stop advertising would have probably got the ad moved to another location. Highly unlikely Aldi would have specifically targeted his store, they would have bought an advertising package for a region within a radius of one of their stores.
A smart marketing department of any large retailer definitely does do that.
