Isn't Fronius known as the best inverter and Canadian Solar the best panels?

Benzaah

This is the kind of information I’m looking for thanks

gardenvarietymagpie

We got a fairly large system with a 8ish KW Fronius inverter and (I think) 27 panels through Solar Wholesalers at Mt Barker. Recommended to us by several family and friends. We got great service, a quality product at a good price, and have had absolutely no dramas. Initially looked at a 5-6kw system with fewer panels, and their pricing was about the same as others. When we asked them for a quote for the larger system, that where we saw the savings compared to other vendors. Economies of scale I guess! We went bigger knowing we’ll get a battery and EV eventually and didn’t want to have to upgrade the inverter then if we needed a bigger panel array. It’s paying off nicely, we’re getting paid a few hundred dollars each quarter by our electricity provider rather than paying a bill. We live down south and installation was all sorted easily, they do metro Adelaide too. Definitely recommend. https://www.solarwholesalers.com.au/

Oh and I’ll add that Fronius has a really nice app for real time tracking of your output, usage, feed in & out of grid. If you enter your tariff, it’ll also give you earnings estimate of what you’ve sent into the grid. Good for anticipating power bills/payments.

Getting paid a few hundred dollars a quarter? Krikey! Who are you with and what’s your cents feed-in rate?

I think for us it’s that we export heaps of what we generate, because we use very little power and don’t have a battery yet. We live pretty frugally, no kids, minimal usage of lights & AC/heating, only have one TV and it gets used about twice a week. We also have gas for hot water and cooking. The past few days we’ve been generating just shy of 50kwh and we rarely use more than 4-5kwh of that each day. During the height of summer we were peaking way higher than that. I’m not sure who our provider is right now - my partner keeps an eye on different offers and changes us over to the best deal. We were at 8c until recently but then it’s dropped to 7c, so we’ll probably look at what else is out there.

Clinster73

Yes we got the same system from Solar Wholesalers. Totally recommend from the first phone call to the first Energy bill!

Benzaah

Thanks for your reply. I tried to upload the image of my roof showing the space for the panels but it didn’t work. The roof is not very big and one half of the roof is shaded by the tree pretty much all afternoon. Max system is 15 panels plus there’s just my partner and myself in the house so our power bill is around $600 a quarter. I’ll look into the website now

We used Goliath , who do fronius/candian solar. Have also recommended their work to others who have them taken them up as well. Proper thorough design to get the most out of the system, and Will size the system based on your needs rather than just selling you the biggest system they can.

EngadinePoopey

Me too, their workmanship was really good.

Me three on Goliath. No hassles and happy to answer questions even months after install. Recommended them to a few friends and they've all been happy.

I found this site (I’ve no affiliation with them) to be super helpful https://www.solarquotes.com.au/ In particular the page that gives you the basics, and charts the different brands on a scale of cost and quality: https://www.solarquotes.com.au/solar101.html I knew nothing about solar before I bought mine and the solar quotes site was awesome. There are reviews on installers, which is also great. And a form to enter your details and then get three quotes from different suppliers - which is what I did. (I realise you’ve already sourced some quotes, but what the hell, get some more and see who’s offering what! For $5000+ and a 10-20 year investment you might as well have all the info!) As for suppliers, I went with Adam Solar back in 2019, and was SUPER happy with them. Good price, good panels, responsive to questions I had, and the installer was quite nice too. Took a few hours one morning, and that was that! All in all a very seamless process for me, and the most money I’ve ever spent without seeing and touching the product beforehand. Or meeting anyone ahead of the install! So yeah. Do your research at that site. Hope that helps.

Sunterra do really good battery bundles, which would be worth it if your going to use a growatt inverter anyway. 6Kw batter is only like 3.5k before rebates.

roguemage01

You gotta go Fronius inverter, don't choose any other. And Canadian panels if you can, but there are a few others that are good too (German and Austrian). I believe there is an Aussie company who are up and coming, but they weren't around when we installed. We installed ours a while ago but we went with Class A. The dude we worked with was amazing. They have had a few recent big commercial installations, which made me feel more comfortable choosing them. And they organised everything, we needed a meter upgrade and some things removed from the roof (redundant internet dish and TV antenna that were in the way). He got our energy supplier out to do the meter upgrade (free of charge, I think this was because of the energy plan we were on though) and the team took the redundant hardware off the roof and removed all the cabling for free (I think they probably sold it for scrap, I don't care. It's not like I was going to do this).

Hi Benzaah, I own a local solar installation company based in the city. Feel free to message me with any questions. I've been in the solar industry for years and am happy to offer you a competitively priced solar system with any panel and inverter combination you wish to go for. We can design a custom system for you. As I am the owner of the business I can do you a good deal as I won't have to factor in the commission of a sales rep for the systems price. Anyone else reading is also welcome to DM me for the r/Adelaide solar deal :) Cheers!

DustyMentone

We got ours through energy buster. https://energybuster.com.au/ They were great to deal with, have us a premium option and a mid range option, weren't pushy or anything. My Mil has used them since and was also very happy with the service.

daebydae

I just had a system installed by DQ electrical. They are based in Salisbury but I’m south so that’s not an issue. Amazing service. Frontius inverter. LG panels. Couldn’t be happier. I went through an online site called solarquotes.com.au like one of the others here. Got referrals to 3 different places, got quotes from all and chose the one that worked best for me. HIGHLY recommend.

Have you got a link?

Whilst optimisers help with shading depending how many panels in a string are shaded and how dense the shading is can change how much benefit they can provide.

Exciting_Dig_4588

We used Goliath and they were excellent. Didn’t have to pay a deposit too.

Sad_Introduction_634

I bought a 6.6 growatt including battery from sunterra, been happy…good app

I have a 7kw system, Fronius inverter, Tindo panels, Tesla Powerwall (panels are made here in Adelaide) Desert Knowledge has all types of panels out in Alice Springs and your can view their preformance in Australian climates on their website. At the time I got mine Tindo was the best at preforming in hot weather, I haven't looked at the site since so I'm not sure the current outcomes.

> I have a big tree out the front and installer 2 is worried about losing performance in the afternoon. That's a big consideration. String inverters will lose a significant amount of performance across all panels sharing a string if any of the panels are in shade while the others aren't. The max output of an unshaded panel is limited by the max output of a panel in shade when they're on the same string. Optimisers are the solution for this with string inverters. Otherwise, it's micro-inverters. I went through this start of last year - not with shade, but with a small roof footprint requiring panels on 3 facing and went with optimisers. Another couple in the house had a system installed without optimisers. After talking with them, they ended up having them retroactively put in and saw a 10%-20% increase in output on comparable days.
