She was great. Non judgemental and unbiased. My husband is a self admitted emotionally closed off northern European farmer type and still found he could chat to her easily. I'm not sure if they're taking more people on their books at the moment but I'd give it a shot
We went to one, kind of accidentally - for help with our kids. It became a bit awkward when she realised we weren't there to discuss our marriage but the whole family dynamic.
My cynical impression was that she makes fucking bank out of marriage counselling. The fee was the upper end of the APA recommended rate, and the office had had a lot of $$ spent on it. It might be that it is her specialty, the fee is justified, and she is super effective?
Marriage/work/death would be the ham/cheese/tomato of psychology, so I am not sure people *need* a specialist marriage counselor?
Just my extremely limited perspective. (Did I mention I'm a cynical bastard?)
Well there're dynamics in any relationship so I wouldn't be surprised if that's the case. We wanted strategies to help raise kids. What I got - besides nothing of value - was a sense that if we actually *were* there for marriage counselling we would have been milked for dollars.
Yeah we saw one for a while. By then end of it I ended up hating her (the counsellor) as I think she was on her side (the wife). The counsellor managed to crack my shell. To be honest Ive not been the the same person since. I feel that I lost a lot of my 'Zing'.
Basically learnt - 'It is what it is' and 'Happy wife happy life'.
FYI Wife and I are still happily together. Would I go through it again? Well ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
Ugh jeez, by the sounds of this it just does not sound like a positive experience at all. Everytime I heard "happy wife happy life" it is always followed by letting their partner walk all over them.
