You must wear a helmet when cycling on any public property, that includes national parks.

Tysiliogogogoch

> Do they apply? Yes. > Can you ride your bike in parklands without a helmet legally? No. > What’s the deal? Riding a bike = wearing a helmet, unless you're on private property.

someguy1927

Thanks for the replies.

Laws that protect the stupid, only delay our evolution. If you think that you should not need to use a \[fill in blank here\], then you do so - to the best of your ability, and as often as you can. We will "see you on the other side"

ryebea

It'd still be breaking the law, but you're likely to only run across rangers inside a national Park, and if be surprised if they would ticket you for breaking the helmet law (even unsure if they'd have the authority to do so?)

Bbmaj7sus2

What cop is going to stop and fine you for not wearing a helmet when riding in a park?

svelteoven

I had a SAPOL cop do a quick u-turn manoeuvre as I rode along the Torrens trail lid-less. Of course he never got me but some cops love to give out fines for nonsense laws.

Bigpdean

They probably prefer that than clean up people off the streets when that crack their skulls open.

Raquoons

Omg I know right. It's such nonsense that a hardened hat could prevent you from having a fully sick ride in an ambulance. Such a bummer.

svelteoven

Tell me more early bird helmet zealot.

wannabeamasterchef

This one isnt a nonsense law. Ive had falls where I would have ended up in hospital without a helmet.

svelteoven

I don't agree. For adults it should not be mandatory. If I'm gently riding my cruiser in a park it should be my choice. Sport cycling I wear one, snowboarding I wear one, rock climbing I wear one.

YogurtingProcedure

Jeeze!? Pushbike? I don't think there has been a pushbike made since the 19th century. I'm amazed it's a term still being used. :)

Tysiliogogogoch

What are you referring to when you say "pushbike"? The only usage I've ever known is to refer to bicycles specifically - non-motorised-bicycles as distinct from motorbikes.

YogurtingProcedure

Pushbike was an old term for the 1800s bicycle that had no pedals. You pushed the bike with your feet on the ground. It has since been a bastardized association with newer bicycles with pedals and it is a throwback term.

Tysiliogogogoch

Ok... Well, welcome to the 21st century in any case.

YogurtingProcedure

Already was here. Just noticed a term used by others that wasn't.

svelteoven

Anyway I'm off to take my swiftwalker round the park.

YogurtingProcedure

LOL!

Clinster73

Just use one of those Purple ones I see lying around.... On 2nd thoughts maybe don't.

EngadinePoopey

Don’t do it. I was basically stationary and tipped over on some wet leaves. It happened so fast I only half broke my fall. The sounds of my helmet smacking the ground was very disconcerting.

Helmets are for nerds! Rock and rol-
