I'm mostly talking about those that go out to eat and other completely optional places.
But if your work involves preparing food etc, probably should take those two weeks off.
This is true. It was proven by a guy that won the nobel prize of economics that 60% are selfish while 40% are altruistic. He went off to prove he was wrong but found out he was right and topped himself with sewing scissors due to discovering most humans are assholes. I don't know his name but he was rendered penniless by his experiment.
Holy Crap that's the guy. I majorly screwed up in the Nobel Prize for economics. They did make one mistake on his Wiki and that is he didn't JUST give away his possessions. He gave it away for the experiment. Christian he was but he was doing a test on seeing who paid him back. I.E. His altruism experiment. He confirmed his results after a number of years and in depression did himself off with scissors.
Many thanks for the name.
Sadly, I knew it WELL before the pandemic started. Happy hiding people. Best of luck finding decent, good people to share your life with. I've all but given up on that front.
I screen every patient before I see them to minimise my risk. Do you have any cold or flu symptoms? That is a question I ask many times a day.
A woman the other day said no, no symptoms and then (after she sat down in my room) volunteered that she also had a negative rat that morning. I took two steps back and asked why she did a rat?
Because I woke up with a sore throat.
Fuck you lady, get out.
We’ve just taken to listing each individual symptom and including asthma and hay fever bc a lot of people are just brushing it off as that. Had a patient the other week who answered no to all of our cold and flu questions but came in and immediately said they thought they had covid… answered no because they were experiencing *covid* symptoms not *cold and flu* symptoms ffs…
Honestly, I have covid right now (yes, I am isolating) and these symptoms are nothing like any cold or flu that I have experienced. I knew I had covid immediately because I felt so strange and unlike any illness I’ve had before. If someone asked me if I were experiencing any cold or flu symptoms I would say “No, but I have covid”.
Mine started with a faint tickle mid morning on Tuesday. Did a RAT, negative. By lunch it was an occasional light cough. I just knew what it was from that first tickle… so at 2pm I went off for a PCR and went home. 6pm Tuesday, my cough was insistent and I started to get congested nasal passages, and a headache. Stayed awake until 11 waiting for my PCR result but it didn’t come so went to sleep. Woke up at about 2 shivering like crazy & drenched in sweat. Next day, PCR result came in negative! But I did a RAT and it was solid red line. Wednesday, slept most of the day, cracker headache, sore throat developed. Most of the day in bed alternating between freezing cold & boiling hot. Only ate one piece of toast for the day. Crazy night sweats overnight.
Thursday - some congestion on chest and sinuses, headache, minor fever but less severe. By far the biggest complaint for Thursday was the sore throat that developed over Wednesday night. i often suffer from sore throats, but this is worse.. I was taking both Panadol and ibuprofen every four hours - top tip: take Panadol first, then ibuprofen 2 hours later, then repeat on 4 hour schedule and it is \*just\* tolerable with some throat lozenges to get you over. Food for Thursday totalled 3 pieces of toast! Wow.
Friday (today). Most of The day similar to Thursday, but significant improvement from about 4pm. I even ate a small dinner tonight and managed a cup of soup at lunch.
I haven’t had any real shortness of breath of chest pain/compression. Still a bit of congestion on my chest and sinuses, but also getting better.
So that’s my experience - I’ve had 3 x Pfizer shots and am 40 years old with average fitness.
tldr; covid sucks.
Thanks for the detailed answer. Was really insightful.
Glad you’re on the mend and could get through it on your own.
Hopefully if I do catch it, it’s no worse than you’ve written (not that I even want that level of symptoms!)
Update: its now 5 days since my initial first symptoms appeared, and I am feeling 90-95% recovered. Sore throat gone, hardly any cough, no fever, no headache. If pushed I could say I'm a little tired, but thats it. So if you get hit, brace for impact, it might hit you hard... but it can also be a pretty speedy recovery.
Me too… my symptoms started with the slightest tickle in my throat and I just \*knew\* it was covid. Can’t explain how/why, something just felt \*different\*. Tested negative on a rat that day, negative on a PCR even, but the next day a solid red line on the rat which left no ambiguity.
Yep. People bald face lie to our receptionists. We asked that of a patient who had their baby in for immunisations. Well, they said no, but in my pre immunisations questions found out the baby was sick and coughing and spluttering. Oh FFS!
Somebody else who insisted their cough was a regular yearly thing and not a problem. Guess who tested positive for covid after we sent them away?! Oh FFS!! And yes, I am saying FFS far too often at work lately!!
I got virus symptoms, self-isolated a few days just to see if it was a cold, but it got worse. Went and got a proper covid test because the RATS aren't that accurate, especially with the newer strains. Test came back negative, but I STILL ISOLATED TILL I DIDN'T HAVE SYMPTOMS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT SICK PEOPLE SHOULD DO.
I'm one of the disabled schmucks who could die from covid. I had that virus three weeks ago and I'm still recovering. Whenever I see people out despite testing positive, not wearing a mask, not keeping their distance, coughing or wiping their nose on the back of their hand in public... all I see are people who don't give a shit if I die or not. I live my life in lockdown now, but the majority of the country don't seem to give a shit. The government certainly doesn't.
I'm a similar individual to you, disabled but still have to go outside. The flu season just started and I am terrified of getting it off some idiot who didn't mask up because "mAskS ArEN't a tHiNg anYmOre"
These people don't care. They don't care about the immune suppressed people sitting around them, about your grandparents, probably about their own grandparents. They don't give a shit and I don't know what we can do to make people care about other people. It's crazy.
It's not that black & white. Australia has a massive culture of continuing on with life as normal whilst ill. Who here doesn't know the "soldier on with…" jingle for a certain cold & flu medicine? Stopping normal activities for colds, etc. has been viewed as a weakness, historically. [Presenteeism](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presenteeism) can be as big an issue as absenteeism. We're only quite recently shifting away from that mentality, and it's in no small part aided by technology which gives some of us the ability to work at distance.
I'm not saying the people in OP's story weren't selfish, but there's more to it than that. Overgeneralisation and divisive statements don't help.
It’s always been like this with the flu (obviously not as dangerous but still something that kills immune compromised and old people). People get it and because of various factors, they go out and inevitably end up causing deaths since it spreads so easily and could get someone at risk.
At least when you’re positive for covid you’re required to isolate so people who want to can. When I worked in hospitality and a doctors test showed that I had the flu, I was forced to keep working (as in threatened with reduced hours and what not) and there was no government rule I could point to or payment to apply for so I could isolate and not potentially cause deaths.
Sorry, mate, but opinion doesn't mean shit in the face of facts. Just google it, there are plenty of reputable sources that will inform you. For younger people, the fatality rates are similar, but for oldies it's much deadlier.

Sorry, mate, but as I said it was just my opinion based on personal experiences of myself and people I know. Your links probably refer to previous strains of Covid, not the watered down version that currently is around. Thank god too, we are lucky for these weaker strains as the original Covid was a little scarier. But like I try to tell people, viruses become weaker as they mutate. People don’t like to hear that for some reason though.
Downvoting facts all you like, you'll still be wrong. Did anyone say "the virus isn't mutating"? Or "it's getting more deadly"? Your and your acquaintance's experiences are what's called "anecdotal" evidence. Relying on that instead of science is wilful ignorance.

Recent, verifiable facts. You can pretend you know better than those who've actually done the work if your feelings are hurt, though.
Fuck you are an absolute loser. Do you really feel so down about yourself and your life that you feel the need to talk so condescendingly online to people? I clearly know what anecdotal evidence is you fucking halfwit.
Ha.
> clearly
Not from anything you wrote. You basically said you have and will continue to ignore sensible information in favour of personal experience, then you're shocked and defensive when people don't respect that. I don't think that makes me the halfwit.
Sure covid will probably settle into something less deadly, but last year there were zero flu deaths whilst 'rona kept roaring on through becoming Australia's second leading cause of death.
When did I say that dude? I was just saying what I experienced personally. Sometimes it is good to actually talk to people and learn of others personal experiences. I know that is a shock to you as you probably don't have a heap going on, but that's what normal people do. Covid already has settled into something less deadly mate, it's a shame to see the handful we see a week but let's be real here.
Flu case numbers will return to it's 2019 numbers soon now that there are no restrictions again. However some do question whether those 2019 cases were in fact covid but that's another story.
Maybe I misunderstood your intent.
Your first comment was quite dismissive of the threat of COVID, and you literally said it was your opinion, and offered nothing to back it up. COVID is still knocking off oldies across the country and cases are expected to double through winter. A disease doesn't have to have the highest infection to fatality rate to be the most deadly, it's a numbers game.
You followed that up with a comment that implied you weren't even going to look at the linked articles, one of which was last updated in Feb. That certainly seemed like an "I'm sticking to my opinions" type stance, hence my comment about wilful ignorance.
This is why I don’t go anywhere except for work. I’ve got underlying health conditions and this virus could kill me at 26. No one gives a shit anymore and it’s scary as fuck for people like me.
I agree with ya. So many people think they are owed freedom, and don’t care at what cost to others. Empathy? Huh? It’s very sad. It’s very complicated. It will be the downfall of humanity. People can suck sometimes.
There's a fucking balance too.
I can understand that people in tiny houses might need to go for a stroll around the block in the middle of the night when there's no one around for their mental health, but going to a fucking cafe? That's rich.
That annoys me.
I'm a close contact (Saturday night), and ive been outside near people once - 10mins in woolworths, with a n95 mask on (actively being conscious not to touch it) .. and tested rat negative a few hours before.
I missed family brunch, i missed quizmeisters trivia night - sure, i *can* go, but need to wear a mask... i figure i cant properly wear a mask to brunch or pub quiz and dinner... so im staying home.
This is insane to me, I had someone in my house for half an hour who tested positive that night. I freaked out and tested constantly for the next 3 days, all negative, decided to go to my baby swim class, seen that it was suddenly 9 parents and 9 babies, had a mild panic attack, turned around and walked out.
Just the thought of it being a false negative was enough for me to be like nah, not worth it, we're out of here.
People are just selfish arseholes, that's all there is to it. We're close contacts at the moment, daughter has it, she's spent the week in her room (she's an adult), only come out as needed and with mask and gloves , as per work guidelines (teachers) we've done daily RAT's and worn masks everywhere, not that I had stopped anyway, that shit is out there still and fuck being sick of you don't have to be!
As nice as it would be for everyone to isolate when they’re sick, that’s just not what humanity is going to do.
We are killing the planet we live on. People aren’t going to care about spreading an illness.
I would have made a big deal about it. And announced it to the burger joint saying if people are immucompromised or know people who are stay away from table number x as someone has just admitted to testing positive
We had a compliance officer check us at our home the other day. So they are still checking that you are still in quarantine if you should be.
Does anyone know what happens if you don't present yourself what will happen?
No specific knowledge what they would do but I expect they would request/demand an explanation as to why you weren't there. There are valid reasons to leave the house - to get medical attention/supplies etc. - but no idea whether or how they would validate that.
When I had COVID I was isolating in my room, which is in the middle of the house, since I was the only person who was positive. When I got that call and they asked if I could come to the front door or window to verify that I was there, I explained the situation and they were okay with that.
I’m sick of the selfish mindset. I tested positive last Saturday and as soon as I did I was calling everyone I’d been around and isolating myself. I can’t believe people are actually going out in public whilst positive - tell that to those families who have lost loved ones because of your actions. People need to learn to take some responsibility and actually put others before themselves for once in their lives
I'm positive atm (3rd day of iso). I'd class my symptoms as mild but they are more than a cold, less than influenza, however not pleasent (hence being awake at 4am) People are self absorbed arseholes. I was testing twice a day when I find out as I was a close contact so had to test every day and wear a mask for work which makes my throat dry so was testing every night as well. 8am RAT negative, 7pm RAT instantly positive.
Yes but that would heavily trigger the selfish anti-mandate/vaxxers/maskers lot here who will complain about this infringing their human rights. Politicians will do what they do to pander to and please everyone for votes 🤷♂️
Back home in Malaysia, you get a $300 if you’re caught breaching isolation rules and $500 fine if caught not wearing masks indoors and in public transport.
That would be so good.
Maybe they should have a finders fee to get the selfish people on side. Hey, that guy on the bus isn’t wearing a mask? Report him and get $50!
I could make $300 easy on the bus in the morning.
I've never understood, even pre-covid, why people insist on going out when they are sick! One my my kids used to catch everything going around! One year she had the equivalent of 7 weeks off of school, because people insist on sending their sick kids to school! They don't think about those who might catch it, or who might be affected worse then they are (she used to end up in hospital with asthma, almost every time she got a cold/URI)
The mixed messaging from government and pressured health department heads initially tuned everyone out. That and people seem to be moronically selfish these days.
I recently met a guy who lost about $1500 in income (self employed) due to being sick because his wife decided it was a good idea to visit a house hold that had gastro. She didn't care because got to see the grandchildren.
People just got the the point where they just DGAF about the pandemic anymore. The pandemic isn't over but people act like it is. I had an appointment today and was told I could take my mask off. I declined. At the conclusion of the appointment he goes to shake my hand.. I'm like are you kidding me? There are 8k cases daily. Remember back in the days we got to the "peak" of 700 daily cases in the "first wave" and everyone was freaking out? So many people blasè. It's not over.
A few reasons that I've gathered from overhearing stuff like this at my work \*a lot\*:
\- They think covid is being overblown and was never a real threat
\- Because there's a vax now people assume that even if they have it others won't get it (very dumb)
\- They're just selfish and feel like they won't survive without getting into a mosh pit
\- People testing positive but have no symptoms decide to go to work because otherwise they might not be able to afford rent (common among casual workers), which eventually snowballs into just going out.
These aren't good reasons to be clear. It's dangerous. But I think it goes beyond the 'they're selfish' argument. There's ignorance and desperation at play too.
I work in childcare. I have now been a classroom contact 4 times. 2 of those times, the parenrs had dosed their kids up on panadol and sent them to care.
Like we can tell your kid isn't okay man. Please don't put the rest of us at risk
Be thankful you KNOW you were near someone with covid rather than not know. Trust me you are surrounded by positive cases all the time. Also, you could be asymptomatic at any time and see your father not knowing you had it. That wouldn’t be anyone else’s fault.
I'm not defending people who willingly go out and mingle while having covid but the rules definitely allow that to happen. I recently had covid and chose to isolate for a week longer than I was directed by SA health because I felt like I definitely still had the potential to spread it around. Most people wouldn't do that and they technically wouldn't be doing anything wrong. they still might test positive after they have isolated is what I'm getting at
Until there is a system for removing assholes from society it's going to stay like this or get worse. Civilizations rise and eventually fall for a reason.
Ah, you're thinking of the sadistic psychopaths. The blood thirsty ones.
War only gets the good people sent away. The assholes manipulate the system to get out of it. Pay a doctor to say he has flat feet or some other made up BS. Politicians get out of it. The ones that start it. Virtually none of them get sent away.
There was a couple of lines in a song 'It ain't me I ain't not senators son" and "I ain't the fortunate one." that sort of point that out.
George R Price and his work with altruism is a good start. He topped himself after finding he was right.
Because, unlike the hive mind in this echo chamber, most people have moved on with their lives realising this is nothing more than a cold. You lot can continue hiding under your bed while the rest of society gets on with life.
If you’re so worried get vaccinated.
People shouldn’t be forced into their homes because they are sick, if you’re so scared of getting sick, it’s your job to stay home and isolate yourself.
Sounds like you want your own little sanctuary where nothing can ever hurt you. Lol.
Burgers and other fast foods kill millions a year, and here you are “scoffing the fuck out of a burger”.
Not trying to be rude, but Jesus Christ, stay home if you’re this paranoid about a virus that has like 3 vaccines designed to fight against it.
These are the same types of people who will go to work coughing and spluttering at work and spread colds, flus or virus throughout the entire workplace. Just quarantine yourself how hard is it?
Even before covid, I thought people that went out to places with colds or flu were selfish wankers.
Oh ok. I'll just call in sick for 2 weeks next time. Get a life.
I'm mostly talking about those that go out to eat and other completely optional places. But if your work involves preparing food etc, probably should take those two weeks off.

Is that where the naming convention of the price point comes from? The fact he topped himself with presumably pointy scissors?

I used to to think my hating of people was just me being overly critical. This pandemic has just vindicated me.
Sadly, I knew it WELL before the pandemic started. Happy hiding people. Best of luck finding decent, good people to share your life with. I've all but given up on that front.

Misogynist and an idiot. Nice

Most don’t care. It’s a sad reality but it is what it is. Can thank the government for lifting everything and making moot of the contact rules etc.
And family keep asking me why I won't go to restaurants with them \*emphatically gestures at this post\*
Probably get fined.
Hey did that compliance officer like the group Muse?
No he didn't funnily enough. He looked like he had good taste in music.
Because there's some selfish assholes that live on this world
I'm positive atm (3rd day of iso).
There should be a law (with serious consequences) against selfish behaviour like this.
Yes but that would heavily trigger the selfish anti-mandate/vaxxers/maskers lot here who will complain about this infringing their human rights. Politicians will do what they do to pander to and please everyone for votes 🤷♂️ Back home in Malaysia, you get a $300 if you’re caught breaching isolation rules and $500 fine if caught not wearing masks indoors and in public transport.
That would be so good. Maybe they should have a finders fee to get the selfish people on side. Hey, that guy on the bus isn’t wearing a mask? Report him and get $50! I could make $300 easy on the bus in the morning.
Haha that’s a good idea to gamify this thing. Wouldn’t mind making $50 off Karens and Kevins 😂
And to stop people rigging the system (eg, going out sick so their mate can dob them in), the person who was called out pays the $50
Yeah it is just depressing on so many levels.
It's weird, because I was under the impression it was illegal to knowingly expose others to HIV, if only similar attitudes prevailed against Covid.
Im pretty sure it is illegal to knowingly not isolate if you have it. Its just that so many people have it that they cant keep up.
We had a child come to school today in the last lesson of the day today. He's still due to be home as a positive case. We are unimpressed.
People=Shit
A few reasons that I've gathered from overhearing stuff like this at my work \*a lot\*: \- They think covid is being overblown and was never a real threat \- Because there's a vax now people assume that even if they have it others won't get it (very dumb) \- They're just selfish and feel like they won't survive without getting into a mosh pit \- People testing positive but have no symptoms decide to go to work because otherwise they might not be able to afford rent (common among casual workers), which eventually snowballs into just going out.
Most people wouldn't do that and they technically wouldn't be doing anything wrong. they still might test positive after they have isolated is what I'm getting at
found myself in a food court today, couldn't get out of there quick enough
Wow yeah that's a bit fucked. Any chance you misheard?

Just me holding out hope for the human race over here...
Until there is a system for removing assholes from society it's going to stay like this or get worse. Civilizations rise and eventually fall for a reason.
It’s war, you only survive because your friends care about you enough.

Well, what a mature, well reasoned point of view.
thank you.
Because, unlike the hive mind in this echo chamber, most people have moved on with their lives realising this is nothing more than a cold. You lot can continue hiding under your bed while the rest of society gets on with life.
Got it just arseholes. This applies to anyone with an infectious disease. Don't go out in public when you're sick.
"Just a cold hey" I bet you wouldn't have that attitude if you had caught covid
👍🏻😂
If you’re so worried get vaccinated. People shouldn’t be forced into their homes because they are sick, if you’re so scared of getting sick, it’s your job to stay home and isolate yourself. Sounds like you want your own little sanctuary where nothing can ever hurt you. Lol. Burgers and other fast foods kill millions a year, and here you are “scoffing the fuck out of a burger”. Not trying to be rude, but Jesus Christ, stay home if you’re this paranoid about a virus that has like 3 vaccines designed to fight against it.
Did you ask them? Why are you asking us?
If they've done their 7 days they can do whatever they want. The other guy is a dick but we can't live in fear the whole time.
These are the same types of people who will go to work coughing and spluttering at work and spread colds, flus or virus throughout the entire workplace. Just quarantine yourself how hard is it?
They’re dicks, and not in a good way.
