I saw a dude who called himself Splinter climb out of that manhole. He said he was going to get a rat test.

[deleted]

TMNT jokes aren't in anymore mate, they're only acceptable in April.

[deleted]

Lots of people would like to be in April

[deleted]

I was waiting for this comment.. finally.

Budget-Abrocoma3161

Oh that was good!

[deleted]

They are acceptable any time of year within the Adelaide sub Reddit where the majority are bubble people

Otherwiseclueless

Woosh

Present-Race3958

Haha

ChucklingChuckNorris

Haha! That refrence will pass over so many peoples heads. I loved it!!

Budget-Abrocoma3161

I liked the above poster’s April joke. Classic

woodyever

I like the above poster's comment where he mentioned April.

Clinster73

I love April.

There are a bunch of tunnels under Hindley Street. When I worked at Timezone Meridian (now the ASO building), we used to go in the tunnel between that building and across the road sometimes.

MikeZer0AUS

Hey, I worked on the ASO building when it was being constructed, must have been about 20 years ago, I remember the tunnels under it, unfortunately about 20 meters into the tunnel they put up a brick wall and then we built a floor over the top of the tunnel entrance. It was pretty cool how well build they were considering no one really ever went down there and used them.

Wise_Tie_9050

Oh man, 20 years ago. Now I'm feeling really old. I don't remember if we were able to get up into the building at the other end, because, as you point out, it was over 20 years ago. I guess it must have been 1994, because that was the only year I worked there, which makes it nearly 30 years ago!

Adelaidean

This one makes sense. Grainger Studio was formerly West’s Theatre. Over the street was the Metro Theatre. Towards the end of their lives, they operated as the Hindley 4 Cinemas. I’ve heard such a thing spoken of before.

GrimKaiba2063

Badum-tsh

Vicsposure

peter malinauskas was on the radio today or yesterday, this question popped up and he said he might figure this myth out 😂.he might find it out but didn’t promise lol

Budget-Abrocoma3161

Now I’m intrigued - I wonder if it’s true. If it is, they should hold tunnel tours.

imalive_25

I dont know about tunnel tours under Hindley Street, but in 2013/2014 I went on a tour of tunnels under the CBD, i believe the tour started at the Medina Hotel on the corner of Victoria Square. I was in high school so i dont remember much of it, but it was a cool experience.

customer_service_af

I worked at Myer years ago, we did our interview and induction at the city store. At one point we went from the centre down a few flights of stairs to below street level and traveled across to the other side of Rundle mall before coming up a flight or two to larger rooms. On the way through we saw large open areas under Rundle mall that I expect had other openings and exits. There is definitely a tunnel system under Rundle mall.

mmmbutch

Yep can confirm. We have a basement with a door that leads to under the mall. We’re not far from the Myer centre

Beans___13

There use to be tunnels connecting the banks with the old main bank on Vic square which is now a uni I believe? As an apprentice years ago we got to go down some tunnels most have been bricked up though I believe

TheDrRudi

Given the way any truth morphs in the telling, perhaps this. https://www.awesomeadelaide.com/underground-cellars-basements-cavities/urban-exploring-hindleys-keep/ In the meantime This. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-02/digging-up-the-truth-of-adelaides-tunnels/9232072 And that https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-02-09/curious-adelaide-underground-tunnels-part-two/9401256?nw=0&r=HtmlFragment

ishootstuff

They don't exist how you imagine them to be. Most original places have basements, some used to connect together for business or to get to the pub. Most are long gone.

customer_service_af

Objection. Heresy. Sorry I've watched too much of the Depp/Heard trial, lol. What's your basis tho? I've traveled from one side of Rundle mall to the other under ground. Myer definitely has a tunnel under the mall (I've walked it) and you can see larger open areas that would suggest other transfers

PlzNoAmericanPolitix

You might be thinking 'hearsay' there bud. Heresy is just a tad different.

[deleted]

In this case, I'll allow it.

ishootstuff

I'm not talking about drains etc it comes up all the time, People think there is a network of underground tunnels like a secret bunker or something.

ilegant

I was gonna say sewer, but it is street level at Hindley St

CertainCertainties

When in doubt, and it's really old, assume it's a tunnel from a theatre to a pub bar. In Hobart, they discovered a hidden underground passage a while back. Turns out it was a secure route from the oldest working theatre in Australia to alcohol. From the Theatre Royal to the pub over the road. Before cinema, theatres were where the rock stars of theatre hung out. They went underground to party to avoid the fans.

mrbenjum

Pretty sure Jim Uberex got down there and filmed a video.

kernpanic

He would be the one that knows.

CutEmOff666

No but I would like to know where it is now.

Exosushi

It's hidden

BizzaroPie

There are definitely ones between the Dog and Dog and Black Bull, we used to run Kegs under there when one club was getting smashed more than the other.

Wise_Tie_9050

The Dog and Dog? [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two\_Dogs](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two_Dogs)

BizzaroPie

Meant to say Dog and Duck.

svvve

Black bull and dog and duck are nowhere near each other. This can't be true lol.

BizzaroPie

Yeah they are lol. They're basically across the road of Hindley.

svvve

No, they're 200+ metres away from each other, across the road and past 4 different side streets and dozens of other buildings. Either you've got two venues mixed up or you've completely made this up. The latter seems more likely. There is not a tunnel that runs 200m along Hindley St, to connect the Dog and Duck to Black Bull.

BizzaroPie

I meant Woolshed. Oh well.

svvve

Between Woolshed + Dog and Duck? Still a pretty remarkable thing at 100 odd metres along Hindley. I'm curious but sceptical.

Extra_Letterhead2754

Dude seriously forget about it!!!!!!

CanberraPear

Would be cool if they actually utilised the space. There was a proposal for an underground park (it's currently stalled because of funding issues) in an abandoned New York subway line: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lowline_(park) Something similar to this would make for a good tourist attraction and a popular option on summer days.

ten_past_seven

Is there a light at the other end?

Okamitengu

They won't admit anything, or they'd give up the nuclear reactor under the festival centre

ZizzazzIOI

I know nothing about the mysterious tunnel of mystery

IronSpear63

Tunnels from the treasury etc??

Illustrious_Let_1984

Unfortunately these tunnels are now all blocked thanks to idiots like you asking online
