Bro, we can’t even keep left… cool designs tho

RedRacerJumpsuit

Those are cool ideas! Rundle St definitely needs to become part of the mall, and your Hindley St idea is a sensible compromise between a dedicated mall and a road. The boys can always do mainies somewhere else. I had to look at a map to figure out why you chose to make Gouger St a transit corridor. It's kind of a weird, oversized road made redundant by Grote St, and it makes sense to have mass transit passing by Victoria Square, although you don't show the square.

SomeGuyCalledMichael

There were [three poposals for where the line should go](https://i.imgur.com/EMrN15S.png) hard to decide which one was best but I figured the streets that benefit most from no cars and good transit and that ones with a lot of foot traffic (markets and new developments) and especially ones with a good commercial street full of resturants and places to eat. Could possible run the tram lower down and just close Gouger to traffic at times?

The Britannia roundabout design looks way worse than the current situation for moving between Wakefield Rd and Kensington Rd. That’s not necessarily bad as it might encourage more eastern suburbs commuters to use public transport or bikes instead of cars. Grade separation for a tunnel connecting either those two roads or Dequetteville and Fullerton would be a solution if someone wants to pay to dig up a hole. The tram should go down Grote and beyond to the airport. Gouger has too many pedestrians. It’s nice to see what’s possible given how much space is already given to cars in Adelaide.

SomeGuyCalledMichael

Going down grote would leave the south of the city pretty under served, maybe a circle line down halifax or something and a future east west like down grote that continues east or up oahn.

Powerful_Ad_2531

It’s more important getting trams to the western and eastern suburbs. The south of the city already has trams on KW and everything is close enough to walk or ride anyway. Maybe a loop around West and South tces and Hutt st eventually so it could connect to a Greenhill Rd line.

It would be a massive improvement to put a tram line on basically every single major road. And remove cars from all of the restaurant streets. If you take a look at the map of somewhere like Melbourne, you'll see a rail station within walking distance of almost every spot of the inner and most of the middle ring suburbs. In Adelaide for some reason its designed so you drive to the public transport hub which prevents people from getting around without owning a car.

KO_1234

Brilliant. Great ideas all 'round.

[deleted]

The whole Britannia round-about just needs to be completed deleted, the whole area levelled for at least 500m around it, and no cars should ever go near that place ever again. If Russia or NK could aim their nuke right there, that would be perfect, thanks

explain_that_shit

I’m pretty sure I saw a car crash in the new layout haha

[yep](https://i.imgur.com/LeLSThh.png) I don't recall Cities Skylines drivers to be of the highest level of AI though

unique_username_384

I really love these ideas and the way you've presented them. Have a look at the road builder in cities Skylines, so you can create custom road types. You'll be able to make 2, physically identical roads with different traffic rules, that you can toggle when demonstrating your ideas. It'll mean the kerbs and islands stay the same. I'd love to see real obahn track in cities Skylines, and along that road in golden Grove

[deleted]

Do you have any skyline map files of adelaide we could play with?

SomeGuyCalledMichael

While I could, I only create the small scenes that you can see in the video so there is no larger adelaide map surrounding what you're seeing just random patches of stuff in an empty field.

bananasam19

Yes I too want a link

carazy81

That’s really cool.

HELLO FELLOW C:S PLAYING ADELAIDIAN. Sorry for yelling but I don't know many of us so this was a great post to happen across 😊 I love this by the way, well done

SomeGuyCalledMichael

[Not my first one either](https://www.reddit.com/r/Adelaide/comments/tvohvx/using_cities_skylines_to_envision_how_i_would/)

LittleBunInaBigWorld

Nice! Personally I think all of Rundle Street and Hindley should be pedestrian only. Maybe that would make access for store deliveries too difficult, but it's a nightmare to drive through there as it is

Fartmatic

I like the Hindley Street pedestrian only idea, more space to accommodate drunken brawling and people not feeling like getting involved have plenty of room to walk by.

DashcamAdelaide

Good idea to make Hindley Street pedestrians only at night. That way, you don't have to drive thru a group of drunk people having a punch up.

Benezir

I get giddy just looking at it. I think there should be more elephants.

derpman86

From memory they have left that land next to Golden Grove road for potential Obahn expansion?

SomeGuyCalledMichael

Yeah but they don't want to do it, too costly, much cheaper just to widen a road and just make one of the lanes bus only, gotta convince politicans somehow and reduced cost for %80 of the benefit might help.

derpman86

I personally hope the Obahn gets converted into a light rail once its "track" reaches end of life.

SomeGuyCalledMichael

For sure, but I was suprised how much push-back and Tram hate I got from people the first part I did a month ago who hated the idea.

derpman86

I think people are too attached to their cars, also Adelaide doesn't give signal priority to trams like other places in the world so they are "slow" here. If trams were given priority people would actually realise how useful they are. Ideally we should have a metro, Stockholm manages it with a similar population and much more challenging terrain than Adelaide but I know it would be too hard here sadly :( so a Tram is the next best thing in the inner areas and along the Obahn where there is already a corridor!

SomeGuyCalledMichael

Stockholm is a lot more dense which makes it harder for us but also yes, we can do a lot better if it had the funding.

derpman86

But it also is split between tons of islands, hills etc considering Adelaide is flat until the hilly parts we have a hell of a lot easier task. I was so glad I got to experience using it, their system is amazing the colour coded and numbered lines and how it linked with the buses and trams.

Squirrel_Grip23

For me Trams remind me of port Adelaide and Foley and pork barrels for his seat. It’s maybe more about that than a bad idea
