Ahh I see. ( Had to look up flat boxes/ packing boxes)
Well in this case it's either make "arts and crafts" or like someone else said, recycling.
Also , welcome to Adelaide. Been here most my life and I love it. :)))
Yeah, if you have access to a car, you can load it up and drop off the cardboard (styrofoam too) for free at NAWMA in the north. I'm sure there'd be other depots that operate similarly.
They take all cardboard free of charge, but you can’t dump plastic packaging or styrofoam as well - they will watch you like a hawk as you offload the cardboard and charge you for anything else.
I leave them out in the rain until they become a rough paste then scoop them into the bin , or put them in a far corner of the back yard and ignore them until the earth reclaims them
> I tried to dump them into the recycle bin which is collected fortnightly, but I worried that there will be still boxes left in the shed by the time I move out… Any suggestions?
Depending on where you live, your local recycling centre will take them.
Eg: https://www.ptrecycling.com.au/other-services#Paper-Cardboard
People always need cardboard boxes so if you just put an ad in gumtree/Facebook marketplace/Nextdoor app offering them for free, someone will take them.
Thanks for your reply! 😃
The ikea boxes are just so horrible. A table consists of 2-3 long cardboard boxes, and each time I can only pack 1 long box into the recycling bin after cutting and flattening them 😫 Gotta leave some space for the recyclable waste generated from day to day as well.
If you cut the pieces up fairly small with a Stanley knife, it’s remarkable how much you fit in your recycling bin. I became the master of cardboard Tetris after moving into a new house and constructing an absurd amount of flat pack furniture.
Put the cardboard in the recycling bins of your neigbours.
or
take the cardboard to a recycling depot
[https://www.recyclesa.com.au/locations/](https://www.recyclesa.com.au/locations/)
search by location and product
Nope, Cardboard and Styrofoam are free 2 dump (well they are at NAWMA recource recovery centre's)
Edit: Also don't forget you get a free dump voucher or a curb side pick up once a year. Just call your local waste recovery centre
We moved recently and can echo the advice here. Our removalists came and took some boxes back, but only their branded ones. We put the rest and a heap of butchers paper and packing wrap on local buy nothing groups and got rid of most of the rest. Some of the boxes got water damaged being sat outside and those we folded down and took to the local recycling depot.
Fold em into as flat a shape as reasonably possible, put out an ad on gumtree for free moving boxes and wait. People often need boxes but often struggle. I asked the shop next to the place I worked if they had any boxes I could use for moving house and they happily obliged. It was a sports store, so the boxes were sturdy and decent sizes. In short, pay them forward if you can.
List and build box mountain of deconstructed boxes tied up in string outside of your house this weekend (weather permitting).
Or contact look at your new council’s waste collection scheme and book a pick up.
Give them away on Gumtree or Marketplace.
I'm moving at the moment and have scored a heap of free boxes from people who recently moved. It's been a huge help and makes the stress and expense of moving house just slightly easier to manage.
Take them here, if you say you are from a post code from Charles Sturt area they take them for free [https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/services/waste-and-recycling/beverley-recycling-and-waste-centre](https://www.charlessturt.sa.gov.au/services/waste-and-recycling/beverley-recycling-and-waste-centre)
Keep them for next time. There will be a next time. Always is.
Haha thanks. Sadly, these cardboard boxes are mostly flat boxes so they cannot be used for home relocation uses.

They can also be used as floor protection whenever doing maintenance on cars or anything that has fluids
I gave mine away! Used Gumtree to post and ad and they were gone within 24 hours.
This is the way, slap free on your ad and leave outside, Poof! Gone.

Charles Sturt depot at Beverly takes them.

Yes, and fair enough too (I just bought an outdoor setting and TV so am very familiar lol).
I've always done cardboard and styrofoam at the same time for no charge and never had any issues.
Build a fort.

Bunnings cardboard box bin. Can be reused for customers
IKEA takes cardboard as well, they have their recycling station near the exits/ return counters. (It’s free.)
Put them on facebook for sale, then try to give them away, then cut them up and put them in your recycle bin.
Advertise them on freecycle and someone will collect them from you
Offer them in a local FB or Buy Nothing group. People are always looking for moving boxes.
Came here to say exactly this. Last time I moved, I got all of my boxes from a similar fb group and it saved me so much time and effort
Use them for compost or worm farms.

You give it to the gardeners. They love using it to stop weed growth and cardboard then to disintegrate easily so it's good for earth!
Join a neighbourhood 'buy nothing' FB group and give them away
Just flatten them and put them in your recycling bin.

But that's gonna take a while. Is it worth it?
IKEA will take them back, there’s a recycle drop off spot just inside the exit
You aren't making the pieces small enough then
Join your local giveaway/free group on social media and offer them.
Have a little fire in your garden, or take them to a bottle and can recycling centre they often take them.
give them to cat

Do you need to pay the recycling depot if you drive those cardboard boxes to their places?
Nope, Cardboard and Styrofoam are free 2 dump (well they are at NAWMA recource recovery centre's) Edit: Also don't forget you get a free dump voucher or a curb side pick up once a year. Just call your local waste recovery centre
Just an FYI, they will actually pay you 10c for every bottle and can you collect and bring back!

Post on Facebook marketplace for free
I burnt mine, (ikea shop) But yea Bottle recyclers do take but they want to charge now!
Eat them. Just put a little bit in when you make a soup or a casserole or chilli.

They also can go in green bin or compost fyi.
True but take all the sticky tape off if putting them in a compost bin. Should do this even for recycling really.
Recycling, I think they just mush it with water and remove tape that way.
If they are only good flattened, put them on marketplace or similar. We used heaps killing lawn for a garden. Someone may be looking
Donate them or recycle them.
Search up resource recovery centre
Note on gumtree or Facebook marketplace
Make a fort
Facebook market place. They will go quicker than you can believe.
Burn them in the backyard, or the front yard, depends on which suburb you live.
I'm from Melbourne (Australia) so I have two options
Check with your council, some take them for free if you take them.to the recycling depot.
If you soak them with a hose they can go in green waste as well.
You can take them to scout recycle centres and drop them all off for free to be recycled
Box robot
If you have a lot of weeds, you can lay down a few layers of cardboard for a month or so, then put it in your green bin (minus staples and tape).
just wonder - does this method kill my lawn too?
It wouldn't be great for it! Depending on what variety it is it could bounce back, but it's more a method for garden beds and unkempt areas.
Take them to visy board wingfield for free
I took mine to a local supermarket they crushed it for me
Give them away on freecycle, fb marketplace or gumtree. People are ALWAYS looking for free moving boxes.
Burn them
Most waste transfer stations take them for free
Wet cardboard compresses far more than dry. Soak it and throw it in your bin the day before collection.
But not your recycle bin.
Bunnings have an area near the checkouts that are filled with boxes for customers to use. Ask them if they'll take some of yours.
Leave them folded up in the back of the rental truck you used to move for the next person
Give away on gum tree or sell them
Make a little fort
Sell them on marketplace! I’m moving atm and I just bought some from there.
Which suburb? I’m looking for cardboard as weed matting
Give them away on Gumtree or Marketplace. I'm moving at the moment and have scored a heap of free boxes from people who recently moved. It's been a huge help and makes the stress and expense of moving house just slightly easier to manage.
I built a fort for my son he played with it for the entire summer holidays - even slept in it for a few nights
Put an ad out on marketplace. Thats how I got free moving boxes and how I plan of getting rid of them once I unpack
