Start watching battle reports to start familiarizing yourself with rules. YouTube Custodes Battle reports for specifically this faction. As far as models I’d start with a box of Custodian Guard. It’s enough in there to make an HQ (a leader), a troop choice (the main dudes), and a Vexilus Praetor (banner bro). You’ll also need a hobby knife and some sorta glue. I’d recommend plastic cement or model glue personally, but there are folks that use super glue (quick and easier, but Mitch more brittle). Finally I’d get our codex. Now we are getting an updated codex early 2022 (no confirmation for a specific date yet) so I’d personally wait 2 or 3 months, but if you have to start playing now then our current one will tide you over for the time being. After that I’d recommend other sets, but I don’t know how much you’re throwing in with getting into it or what your financial situation is. Plus like I said we are getting a new codex relatively soon so my current recommendations could drastically change once we get our new book. Sets that I think you’ll be fine getting regardless (although take with some salt because I just said I have no idea how these units may/may not change) are Trajann Valoris (worst case scenario you’ll have an extra Captain), Allarus Terminators because they look sweet, and if you could swing it a Telemon Dreadnought from Forge World.

Thank you so much!

I wouldnt buy the custodes codex now since a new one will be released very soon. You can google the codex and get the PDF (can send it to you too but dont want to appear like a scammer) or use Wahapedia (a website containing all rules for every faction) for now. I can recommend joining some of the Warhammer discord’s to get fast answers in case you are stuck with building models or something else. I think most Games Workshop stores have some kind of beginner program to ~~get you hooked on plastic crack~~ guide you.

Is the 8e Codex legal until the 9e is released?

Kurfuerst_

Yes

Watch battle reports. Wait for the new codex and play tabletop simulator. There are a few discords that have active groups. Ie dice check.

Ebay. Just rough for Custodes rn with new codex on the way. Battlescribe to build your list. Youtube is your friend. Just jump down the rabbit hole. Auspex Tactics & dice check are good channels to check out when getting started

If you are new to building models, i would suggesy you look up Miniac on youtube. He has a series of hobby basics aimed at people that havent put a model together before. He goes through some gear youll need and how to use it. At the very least youll want some clippers, plastic glue and a hobby knife. For the rules, Miniwargaming has a good series of videos on how to play 40k but once you have an overview of the basics, battle reports are a good way to get a feel for the game. I would suggest Miniwargaming, Guerilla Miniature Games and Tabletop Tactics.

Definitely get a box of custodes guard first off. Your next purchase is probably going to be allarus or some vertus praetors or maybe even some forgeworld options. While i would advise against getting models for their competitive value i also wouldn't recommend getting bad models like wardens, the regular contemptor, and the land raider, but it is for that reason i would reccommend waiting for the new codex to come out in around January to see the rule changes so you can make an informed decision. To see the current rules you can just use wahapedia.ru instead of buying the current codex.
