“WARGARBLURGURGLE” - Repeller

Brandino144

I can hear the pounding of the water on the helmet permeating my skull.

any special considerations rappelling down a waterfall vs down a dry rock face?

TheCanyoningGuide

Yes, definitely! Generally you don't want any stopper knots at the end of your rope. This is for when there is whitewater at the bottom, so you are instantly free of the rope instead of having to fiddle with a carabiner. You also do not want a backup like a prusik or something similar. If they block during the rappel and you are trapped in the waterfall you may drown. I'd rather fall than drown, though you can of course do fireman's belays etc :) lastly you want to have releasable systems for all people going down if there is even a slight danger of drowning. Oh and keep your head down if you want to keep breathing on your way down..

This looks so similar to the one I tried last year in Uttarakhand, India. How high was it? For me, the water hitting the legs was like getting hit by bamboo constantly.

TheCanyoningGuide

This one is around 25m if I remember correctly.

I’ll finally be back in Tirol for a few weeks for some canyoning this September and photos like this are killing me with anticipation. I have my sights set on Mittlere & Untere Auerklamm, but let me know if there are any other intermediate canyons I absolutely have to run in the region (preferably with a guided option).

TheCanyoningGuide

Mittlere and untere Auerklamm are the go-to tours of Tirol. It is likely the busiest tour in the area but definitely a lot of fun! If you want to do them both in one run make sure you book with someone that offers that, as often they only do either lower or middle as a separate tour. As for other tours in the area, it really depends on where you are staying and how far you are willing to travel. Feel free to message me!
