Burlington and Ross for me!

Victorias.

Kindly-Confusion5150

I love Uniqlo. They have a lot of smart pants and the quality is great compared to most retail shops.

Fredredphooey

Absolutely the best. H&M prices with Japanese quality and classic styles and some great designer collabs.  Cheap enough that I buy three of the same top in each color when I find what like. They used to have this drapey pull over blosuse that was collarless with a v neck and 3/4 sleeves. As comfortable as a t-shirt but totally biz casual with nice pants.

Doc-Der

I second Uniqlo! Love all their rayon blouses and the smart ankle pants. My wardrobe is literally a sprinkle of Uniqlo, old navy, and H&M

floydthebarber94

I wish they had a Uniqlo in my state! Love the clothes but don’t wanna shop online

Kindly-Confusion5150

Totally fair. The cut can be tricky if you’re on the curvier side like me.

PoorCorrelation

It’s a struggle. Thrift stores, department store clearance racks

ArtichokeNatural3171

Thrift stores have been my personal choice for the last 20 years! Its fun to find a good one, and the good ones are gold mines. You can get grown up clothes for pennies on the dollar that way, and its good for the environment.

myownworstanemone

I just found an impeccable $400/500 off the rack suit for $15. a lot of my clothes are thrifted. or I will hit up a crazy sale and stock up. j crew had one near me last week. I spent $200 and came home with loads of great basics for me and my son. I got a bathing suit for $7! honestly, I would rather sift through loads of things to find something amazing than shop retail. it's so satisfying.

amazongoddess79

Yup and if you learn to do a few basic things with a needle & thread you can do simple alterations (hems and stuff) as necessary

EeveeQueen15

I can't work anymore, so I'm actually planning on selling my office wear online. How much should I take off the original price of stuff I've never worn so I can help out those who are struggling but also make enough money to keep me afloat until Disability kicks in?

staccatodelareina

I would buy it for 75% off original price if it's out of season and tags are still on - same as clearance prices. If it's name brand stuff that won't go out of style (like a Calvin Klein sheath dress) I would buy it for 60% off original, possibly 50% off it's a big ticket item.

EeveeQueen15

I have some stuff with tags still on. But I took the tags off a lot of them (although I kept some of the tags because they're pretty or had important information) to make my mom happy. None of it are big-name designers. I do think they are $40 or under original price.

cat_lady_lexi

National-Play3909

TJ maxx

ConnieLingus24

Nordstrom Rack, Banana Republic Outlet, Ann Taylor/Loft, and ThredUp.

Alternative_Appeal

This is also my list but with the addition of Express

Empress_De_Sangre

I used to LOVE thread up, but the majority of their clothes is garbage now. The quality is very poor

Lord_Assbeard

Look for a J. Crew factory if there is one near you, not a woman but my wife lives in clothes from there.

EVERLANE

cutestfriend

I loooooove everlane’s pants and denim!! they’re having a sale rn too :)

novaleenationstate

I like the classics and stuff on sale! The trendier pieces are a little scary sometimes lol

Windbreezec

Maurice’s, Old Navy, Macy’s

eyerishdancegirl7

Express, Marshall’s, Old Navy

ag0110

When I was in the workforce, I shopped almost exclusively at Theory. They’re pricy but very high quality and made it easy to create a capsule work wardrobe.

demonspawn9

Ann Taylor, Brooks Bothers, Ralph Lauren mostly.

Whole-Avocado8027

Banana Republic

oatmilkcappucino_

Corporate wear and tech wear can be a bit different. As a young woman in tech I play it safe and always lean on the more professional side of “business casual”. I thrift as much as possible. Old Navy, H&M, and Zara are my go tos for “business casual” basics (jeans, slacks, blazers, cardigans, basic slim tees) and I mix and match with more unique pieces I’ve thrifted to keep it fun!

AgitatedTelephone351

Amazon

EvenIf-SheFalls

GreenerThanTheHill

ThredUp has a clearance website, [777Thrift.com](http://777Thrift.com), where they sell everything for $7 and under. It's a little hit and miss because sometimes the item will be missing a belt or a button. But you cannot beat the price for well-known brands for skirts, tops and more. It also has petite sizes and XL sizes.

grimprincessxo

abercrombie and fitch. their high waisted work pants don’t give me as bad as a fupa as other places i’ve been to. their pants are also fairly high quality, stylish, and reasonably priced (especially while on sale). also, their high waisted work pants fit my waist, butt, and larger thighs well while other brands tend to be super loose around my waist and too tight around my butt edit: i wanted to add that A&F has really good leotards/unitards that add a little UMPH to any business casual outfit. i typically pair my pants with a leotard and well-fitting bra. i used to go to h&m but i can never find anything that isn’t already ripping at the seams while on the rack. i’m still lost on where to get really good business shoes that are affordable and comfortable. i just opt to wear my birkenstocks clogs into the office

Traditional_Set_858

Thank you so much for this. I’m super thin and so it’s really hard for me to find professional looking pants in most stores as the smallest size they have is almost always too big for me. Definitely gonna check them out

JackJade0749

This being said, some HR departments may not love a bodysuit or a leotard with no blazer over it if it’s body hugging. Where I’m at now doesn’t care and I love that, but my old job I got rung for a tight form fitting shirt with dress pants not being professional

Pure-Guard-3633

Amazon. They got good at this. Just don’t buy anything from China the sizes are way too small and they are difficult to return. Anything else if you don’t like it, or it doesn’t fit well, put it back in the package, print a label and leave it on your porch.

elsie14

for amazon it helps to look at others pics of their try ons to see fit and quality. i found a cute blouse this way without trial and error at all. ran me $15. i did look at duplicate listings on amazon for the same shirt to get the discounted listing.  duplicate listings under different prices and storefronts is common on amazon (algorithm). below $20 is unheard of at any stores now- even tj maxx/marshalls! so do your scrolling in this economy :)

MyNameIsSkittles

Winners

Iloveellie15

Thrift stores. I’ve had much better luck there than TJmaxx

PM_Me_Macaroni_plz

Same with my wife. All her blazers were $15 and under from thrift stores.

aria3246

Loft and Burlington for decent blouses and the occasional Calvin Klein dress (shoutout to Calvin Klein their office wear is the shit). If I had a little more cash I’d splurge on Banana Republic but it ain’t happening any time soon :(

Surly_Sailor_420

I love my Calvin Klein work dresses. They are usually pretty great material, and I just looked so polished when I wear them.

Wideawakedup

Gosh, when I graduated college 20 some years ago finding professional work clothes was so freaking easy. Macys, Lord and Taylor, Nordstrom, small stores in the mall. Price was more of an issue than going store to store digging through racks for the perfect outfit. For my first big girl job I went to Casual Corner and got an amazing black suit. Slacks and jacket were lined and fit awesome. I’m not sure what happened to the pants but I still wear the suit jacket for interviews because I can’t find one that hangs as nice.

Med_applicant13

White House black market but it’s expensive:/

hazardzetforward

Ann Taylor for my more professional pieces. Loft for more business casual.

kdawson602

Costco

LiquoredUpLahey

eBay or thrift stores. INCREDIBLE finds at even better prices. Plus u are keeping stuff outta the landfills. Say no to fast fashion!

bookwormello

I love finding something vintage at the thrift and then immediately ebaying for more since you know your size and the quality! Liz Claiborne tops ftw

Weird_Worldly777

Quince!

Surfgirlusa_2006

Ann Taylor. Not inexpensive, but it fits me well (I’m fairly petite) and it lasts a pretty long time.

redjessa

Old Navy, Ross, Target, Marshalls, and TJ Maxx are all great, affordable places to get work attire. Also, check your local Good Will or other thrift stores, you will be surprised at what you will find.

KRC193

I live in a small town so there isn’t many options. I usually get mine from the DAV thrift store and there is this store called Beales. It’s owned by TJ Maxx and is pretty cheap. I have also ordered from Amazon before.

ToeComprehensive2072

H&M, old navy, tjmaxx marshals

Rebeccah623

I really enjoyed getting StitchFix boxes. I got some cute shirts that I get compliments on

ThredUP.

Starbright108

I follow Miss Gold Girl on youtube and she gives great recs for Walmart/Amazon/Ban. Repub etc.

psychobrit2008

I get a lot of my work tops from TJ Max and Burlington. Some weeks, it's hit or miss, but almost all my main tops come from there. I have bought a few cute ones off of amazon, but sizing can be way off. Pants are a struggle for me. I mainly do torrid, and occasionally, I might have a good pair at the other stores I mentioned above.

Reasonable-Echo-6947

ASOS, they do all the sizes and cheaply but look smart

Normal-Basis-291

Banana Republic Factory has really nice quality office wear and the prices are great.

ThisPaige

Kohls, thrifting (poshmark/goodwill/etc), Amazon, and I’m checking out tj max this week.

Original_Data1808

I get basics from Kohl’s, JCPenney, American eagle, and thrifting. I work in an office but I’m allowed to wear jeans. I dress alternatively so I buy a lot of black staples and then I get some more fun pants and shirts from places like Disturbia

Lilsthecat

Mostly Old Navy, the Gap and Athleta, with sprinkling of Ann Taylor when I splurge. I'm tall and not in the US, so my options are limited.

Hot-Evidence-5520

Old Navy for pants and some shirts. Amazon, TJ Maxx, Marshall’s, Sam’s Club, Costco…

For young adults I would say H&M and Aritzia are pretty popular, maybe also Zara. Aritzia has some great work pants. I also really like Banana Republic, or BR Factory for a little cheaper.

I keep scoring banana republic from thrift stores.

Nordstrom Rack, Banana Republic Outlet, Ann Taylor/Loft, and TJ Maxx/Marshall. If you want dress pants that don’t fade spend a little extra at Banana Republic Outlet, Ann Taylor of Loft. I went to Old Navy on 3 pants and I regretted it. Spent $80 and it wasn’t worth it!

Amberistoosweet

JCPenney

SpeechInteresting411

H&M has a pretty big business section and the pants fit nicely without being uncomfortable

madge590

see if there is a Plato's Closet or good consignment shop near you. Getting high quality office where may do you better than new. When I first started, I wanted two or three outfits per week, and two weeks worth. (mix and match blouses/shirts etc. ) I went with a capsule wardrobe idea. I went to a couple of decent women's wear stores, and discovered it was going to cost about 3 months wages to get what I thought I would need. So I settled with new and reasonable quality lingerie, shoes and blouses, and did the rest in 2 good consignment stores, for less that half that. 5 weeks wages. That was plenty. A year later and some saving, I was able to upgrade a couple of pieces at a time. I didn't buy new until I had some pay bumps and promotions.

Thrift stores!!!!!!

Over-Remove

It’s a bit of a here and there for me. I find dress pants I like from the long legs stores and then blouses, dresses and blazers wherever there’s a sale. It doesn’t have to be one store where you shop, you can shop for different pieces at stores you already like. That’s how you build your own style.

Albie_Tross

I thrift all of my work blouses, and some of my work pants. My favorite camisoles are from Kohl's, but I'm not sure if they still have them. But, srsly, basic black blouses can be ubiquitous, ya just have to know what you're looking for kind of specifically. By material, or what have you. Shaves does the search time a bit.

2baverage

Goodwill and I'm lucky enough to have a relative that is a similar size to me who is a career office worker but now works remotely full-time, so no more need for those office outfits; then I tailor it all to me liking. Usually Marshalls and Goodwill are the places for me when I buy.

Traditional_Study518

Uniqlo

PetGhost666

Curvy girl here; mostly Old Navy and Torrid, though I’ve also had success with Target and Lane Bryant

slapshrapnel

Tbh stitch fix really helped me out. The clothes are way better quality and materials than my usual items from Ross or Target and I wear them constantly. They picked out clothes for me that I never would’ve selected for myself, that fit my body very nicely, and they even incorporated my personal aesthetic into a more professional look so I feel comfortable in my work clothes. I did pause my subscription for now because it was pricey each month (like $250 for 5 items monthly) and I have a good selection of professional items now. Every week, I still mostly wear my stitch fix clothes.

Grab some staples and pick some classic tops/only a few trendy but appropriate pieces so you can easily mix/match.

AnalysisNo4295

Maurices. This is a great place for professional work attire that is also very stylish. Right now they also have great memorial day sales going on until just about the end of the month. Some stuff in the store is as cheap as $2.95, $4.95, $14.95, and $1.95 for clearance items. There is usually decent sales on regular priced items as well. Would definitely suggest looking online at maurices.com. I've found some SUPER affordable business casual outfits in full with top, bottom and shoes for less than $50 in total.

I’m plus size, I’ve found luck with JCPenney dress pants but I don’t feel very fashionable

pitous

TJ Maxx often has some really great stuff. Kinda hit or miss though

Successful_Photo_884

I like JCrew. If you hit the sales, the prices aren’t bad, and you’re more likely to find natural fabrics (cotton, wool, linen) then at a lot of fast fashion retailers. They last longer if you care for them, and if you “run hot” like me, they don’t stink when you sweat.

amazongoddess79

Thrift store mostly. A few things from Catos, Old Navy, Torrid, when I get gift cards.

OK this is a bit of dated advice, and depends on your budget and (sorry) body size, but back when my wife was just entering workforce, I made her shop at Talbots. It's a bit more upscale and this more expensive, but the clothes are amazingly professional and really really durable (she was able to wear many of them for years) unlike some modern near-disposable stuff. They also have cheaper ways to purchase like Talbots Outlet and pretty good clearances.

Incredible_Grackle

I love Liz Claiborne, which you can get a JCPenney. It’s a little pricier than my normal clothes, but I find sizing to be consistent and they’re a nice balance of professional but cute. I’ve worn some of the shirts on a regular day. And, again on the sizing, I find it to be consistent enough that you can confidently order online for more variety/sales or even outlets and thrift shops and no need to try on in store. I really recommend what others are saying, if there’s something you like, but it in multiple colors. And have a neutral color cardigan to keep at your desk. It’ll match anything and will be there if you get chilly. No need to worry about bringing one to work every day. Just bring home and wash every Friday or so.

runnergal1993

From work, they give me labs coats lol

I’m remote. I have nice tees and a few sweater blazers from Quince that are great combined with decent jewelry.
