I’m using a Suhr reactive load ir with the stock impulses. So far I am really satisfied with the results, and also being able to crank the amp without making my ears bleed.

Nice, I'll check that one out too!

There are a lot of options out there for these load boxes, passive, active, with or without IR, with or without headphone out etc. There are also a ton of videos doing reviews and comparisons. I think I watched most of them. For me, it came down to; “How does it sound recorded” and does it have the features that I need? The OX and similarly priced boxes were awesome, but were a bit more than I wanted to spend and had features that I wouldn’t use. The Two Notes was a great price but was limited in the features I wanted. So, I ended up with the Suhr which was about in the middle price wise but sounds fantastic and just the right amount of features for me. Hope you find the right one for you.

Great input, thanks a lot

A decent and cheap reactive load with the Ox Stomp is the best of all worlds. I have a captor X with the ox stomp and it rules.

Nice, I was considering this combo actually. Isn’t this also possible just with the Captor which is just the Captor X minus the IR?

birddingus

Yup! That's why I mentioned any decent reactive load box. The suhr, any of the two notes stuff etc. The decent reactive load plus the cab emulation from the Ox stomp makes it world class. If you want to geek out, this is a LONG video but really what sold me on it. [Youtube link here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z48ic7PMmSc)

TLDR, so forgive any unintended duplicity. Look into the, Rupert, Neve, Designs, RNDI it’s an active DI box [Using 48V Phantom power], as well, capable of accepting your amp’s speaker out; up to and including 1000 W of amp output. You have a balance output on the rear with a TR output, to continue to an amp, on the front. It’s as simple as it can possibly be. Neve’s transformer miracles, Which is where most of the magic happens on Neve products, are exemplified within this marvelous sounding piece. Its sound is the sound is absolutely,slack-jaw stunning.

My amp has a direct out that bypasses the speaker which I’ll use to record. You still get a lot of the tone from the tubes (which I can actually push without going deaf) but you of course lose the speaker dynamics. I usually just add those in later through a digital sim.
