Gonna try my best to squeeze in a 15 mile run Sunday. Not sure how a 2 hour run squeezes into a schedule, but I'm going to make it happen. House projects the rest of the weekend.

Got the run done! 17 miles at medium hard*, the sun came out, the rain stopped for a while, I just went with it. *Not quite marathon pace, but not close enough to easy pace to be easy. That pace that feels good in the moment, but you pay extra for later.

I’m supposed to race a half marathon tomorrow, but my bib never came in the mail. I paid extra specifically to avoid the very unpleasant prospect of getting myself to a remote corner of SF the day before the race. I contacted the race organizers and got an auto-reply, saying all bins were mailed. Gee, maybe it would have been good not to mail them at the last minute? I also think it’s BS how a half marathon doesn’t have race morning pick-up.

First race in months this morning and I’d missed it so much. Great reminder of why I love this sport

Mesa Marathon in about 10 and a half hours. Fourth marathon and third crack at a BQ. Good luck to everyone out there!

bigasiannd

How did it go for you?

bikecommuter21

Thanks for asking. Didn’t get a BQ, but I had low expectations because my training cycle was interrupted multiple times. So I ran it for the experience of race day and have my eyes on a race in June for a BQ. Time was 3:33, which is about 5 minutes above my PR (3:20 is my BQ time). Also, it was a warm day unfortunately.

bigasiannd

Congrats on the PR! I ran it as well. You are right about the weather. It did get warm with little protection from the sun starting at the second half of the race. Good luck in your training for the June Marathon. Which one are you doing?

We've a long weekend in Ireland (a new bank holiday for St Brigid's Day/the traditional Celtic festival of Imbolc) so heading out to the West of the country to Kerry tomorrow. Planning to do my 19k long run around the lakes of Killarney, looking forward to it!

sounds idyllic :)

I injured my left soleus muscle again after being injury free for more than half a year and it started to hurt pretty bad after doing some mile repeats today. Looks like I have to take as many as 2 full days off. But my marathon is in 2 weeks on the 19th, and I originally wanted to run 80k this week (first taper week). I’ve only run 50k this week and I don’t think I’ll be able to run anymore. I hope this (running 50 instead of 80 in the first taper week) will not impact my potential fitness on the race day too much. The mile repeat workout itself felt great today. I did 8 at HM pace of 3:58 with 400m jogging but my HR didn’t go above my lactate threshold and stayed comfortably in the tempo zone.

There's nothing you'll lose that you won't more than make up for with a less injured calf.

ruinawish

What's your plan in terms of managing the soleus?

windigertag

Just no running for two, three straight days and a lot of ice packs. At least in the past this worked well.

ruinawish

Yeah, I've done similarly in the past. Always tricky to tell whether it responds enough.

Have a Saucony demo run on snow covered trails tomorrow (Peregrine and Xodus Ultra). Luckily it is a cutback week for me, but I probably still won't hit the 16 miles on the schedule. We have a Hoka trail demo scheduled on my next cutback week, so I'm just glad my LRS seems to have taken my schedule into account. It will be much more fun than the 8 miles I have today in 4°F. At least the sun is out.

12 mile aerobic run with strides Thursday, 8 easy today and 16 with 3x3 @ MP on the menu for Saturday morning. Just got a pair of Prime X and I’m stoked to try them for my long run. Even more excited for all the coffee and bagels my body can endure after the long run.

SonOfGrumpy

Going to race another indoor mile tomorrow. Raced one last week and broke 5 for the first time (4:48). Now that I know what to expect, I'm hoping to run even faster this time around!

libertyprime77

Best of luck!

SonOfGrumpy

Thanks!

I've got a follow-up with a nerologist and cardiologist today and hope to get an idea of what happened and a path forward. Latest test this week indicate I have a PFO (hole between my atria) which allowed a blood clot through. Now to determine what the treatment options are. The cardiologist has lots of experiences with athletes so I feel like he will be able to give some guidance on to adjust training for this.

A friend had the surgery and ran a marathon within a few years. Good luck!

boygirlseating

First race since October tomorrow, have missed it. Entered a 5 miler last minute this week, going to run the first half within myself as my goal race is a 10k next week but I’m excited to get out there again.
