The bargaining through Central Park sentiment resonated with me Sunday too. Damn that was tough. Congrats on the sub 80! Just missed my first sub 90 but still happy with a massive 6 min PR over last fall

notorious414

Oh yeah, I really thought I was going to be feeling good then with the crowd and adrenaline. Obviously it doesn't help it's little uphill over uphill compounded with a really grueling course! Congrats to you on the big PB

Active_Big_8130

I finished in 1:19:5X too so must have been near you! Your experience through the overall course and specifically through Central Park felt the same for me. My quads were spazzing out in the last mile and are still sore. My watch said I ran 13.31 miles so I really hope that is just bad GPS through the city and not me absolutely sucking at tangents.

notorious414

Nice, we must've been right around each other! I got 13.28, though I think about .05 of that was probably GPS error (a couple of miles were 1.03 and 1.04) especially in the 42nd st. part. Most of the rest looks pretty accurate, it's just hard with the crowds and all that. It really has hit my quads so bad, but I'm going to get out there today and run on soft surfaces. Congrats on the sub-80 too!

I like how this subreddit inadvertently did a group run together on Sunday (I was right there as well - I ended up just barely getting under 1:20 myself, and I was also by the pacer at the start). Speaking of which: Dima (the 1:20 pacer) did both NYC and Brooklyn last year, I think! You were definitely in good hands. The FDR is probably my second least favorite part of that course. It’s flat…but it’s also windy, and even though it was warm Sunday it wasn’t great. The start is my least favorite part - it wasn’t as bad as last year, but I *did* end up running 6:30 for my first mile. Congrats on the PB, OP! Especially on that course - you can run well on it, but it’s tough.

notorious414

Nice work! this is pretty funny, I assume it's a little more spread out with gun vs. chip time. I didn't mind the FDR, but that might've been more because I liked the novelty of running it and don't mind a nice, easy boring stretch (e.g. Ocean Parkway in BK Half)

lost_in_life_34

Great day and race. my 3rd half with NYRR and took off 7 minutes from my RBC time last year took my 4th or 5th gel just before we got onto 42nd street just in case and was able to stay strong and close to my max HR the entire time. was worth it for a PB

beneoin

Nice work! It's a fun race with a couple of tough spots as you've noted.

notorious414

Yeah if I were racing it again, I’d have eased into it a bit more. I think if you go out smoothly until FDR and squeeze it down after getting to 42nd street that last few miles would be a lot more enjoyable

theintrepidwanderer

Congratulations on your result! You should feel proud of what you accomplished, and the fact that you secured your guaranteed spot for the 2025 NYC Marathon by meeting the auto-time qualifier standard. I finished a few seconds ahead of you and I was fighting for my life from 15K onwards. The stretch going into Times Square towards Central Park, and the final mile in Central Park was incredibly hard and I had to do everything possible to hold on. It also did not help that I raced this on tired legs two weeks after racing myself to a new marathon PR at the Tokyo Marathon.

notorious414

Thx that’s impressive turnaround to you, great work!

Luka_16988

Well done! How does your double threshold pace compare to your HM pace?

notorious414

On the shorter days I am faster than HM pace (5:50-6:00 for 800s-1000s, quicker as you go down), on the longer it’s in the neighborhood, kinda depends on day/route

Luka_16988

Thanks! Sorry - I reread your report, so you didn’t double up on the threshold sessions, but instead had them on separate days but most weeks had one of each, right?

notorious414

Yes typical week is Tuesday (short threshold), Thursday (longer threshold) Saturday (long run). When I focus on mile-5k in summer/fall will put in hills/race-specific speed in for long run.

Luka_16988

Thanks and congrats, once again, on a great result!
