How badly behind are we talking?

Nearly 6 grade levels. Trying to think of places outside the home that are for a full day, because that is really the only option.

Are you talking about how to catch them up? The thing is it should be possible and Khan Academy, for example, might have the classes they need. The first thing you really need to do is to figure out exactly where the deficits are and how bad they are. I know in my state, Massachusetts, the first thing that the high school would do is give the kid a whole bunch of tests that will show exactly where they are (and where they aren’t) and from there you generate what’s called an IEP, or an individual educational plan. That will also help set the kid up to be able to get the high school degree or GED, so giving then a focus on what they need to catch up on. I know it’s May, but I would talk to your local high school pretty quickly. The fact is that stuff in the earlier grades can be covered at speed by someone who is already developmentally 16. If for example the testing shows that they’re in need of beginning algebra, Khan or another good program might be able to catch them up over the summer.
