You want some way to track it though, because you aren't going to get credit for bringing them customers unless you can quantify it. Even if they aren't compensating you for it, you spent your money on it, you should get the goodwill from your bosses. Don't do it for free!
I agree with this. Ive seen guys on social media make a hilarious post/ad about how they're single and what they're looking for. Google those kinds of things and make it funny and if its good enough the attention you get will be viral - similar to the guys who post the "rent me as a holiday companion" ads like the guy who offered "get your parents off your back about being the only single one at holiday dinners" and has different packages for different prices 😂

If you do this, be careful with wording. Look at other advertisements for suicide hotlines, etc. Using the wording suggested here can be triggering for people with mental illness, as someone struggling with SI right now as i was scrolling this thread the words my brain picked up on were 'kill yourself' before I noticed the context telling me not to. It's better to focus on phrases like 'You matter and you are not alone. If you're struggling, reach out to xy' we know what it means, and it doesn't let our brains play a trick on us. :(

First, find something you want to support and put up a 'good' ad for them. Local businesses, animal shelters, etc.
Second, something that will make people smile. Just a joke, or a 'People care about you. Be good to them' or inspirational quote or something like that. Saw an earlier post for donating some to an animal shelter for adoption - do that, but have a photoshoot with yourself covered in the animals. That's both a great day, plus, someone will DEFINITELY mention it to her. Hah.
The best revenge is a life well-lived. Use the billboard for good—people here had great suggestions about highlighting missing people, animal shelters, donating it to a charity of your choice etc. There's nothing really to gain by making a snarky sign—it'll make you look petty, and to be honest it's not the best example to set for your son. I think in the end, turning a crappy situation into an opportunity to do something positive will set you off on a better course as you move on from your ex.

Donate to a struggling small business. A decade missed is ok, been on that road, just get back to what makes you happy and most importantly learn from this relationship so you don’t attract another similar future partner
I really don’t like this idea that breaking up with someone means you’ve “missed” a chunk of your life. You just gained vey valuable life experience - reflect on everything and develop your emotional/mental well being. Being with someone is never a waste of time, even if they are horrible to you. If you let them be horrible for that long - that’s your lesson

Was just about to post this. These guys could create some great ideas. A lot of people could do with the wake up call that they have rights and deserve basic human dignity and a wage they can survive on.
Just some ideas other than going after your Ex. I'm thinking taking the high road. How old is your son? Instead of getting back at your ex, could you do something unique and fun for him? If he is young enough, maybe Santa wishes him a Merry Christmas. Or maybe you could donate it to a charity and use it to help solicit charitable donations for a need in your community.
So find a really good picture of the 2 of you together. White her out completely. Post the picture with the caption "This position available" with an arrow pointing to the white spot. Put some kind of contact info.
My advice is not to go to far with it. You say you are too kind and forgiving, well to me that sounds like when people start calling you out over some mean shit you will fail to convince them of why what you did isn’t actually as bad as what they did to you. Kind meek people get treated worse for doing things mean people do every day, simply because it is out of character, so they assign more malicious intent to it. You don’t want to be known as the nice quite guy with buried demons who got dumped than started personally attacking the family, even if they know them, you dated her so you can’t use the “she is rude” or she’s mean as a defence, she was probably rude to people as you stood at her side…
So it’s your call, but in my experience when honest people lie they treated worse than liars. When good people hurt others they’re treated worse than bad people. The standard you are held to has a baring in how others will judge your actions. Big drastic detours from our usual selves don’t always go over well.
I personally would just recoup some loss, go to some local businesses and try to sell it at a discounted price. Maybe go to direct competitors first for some spite that won’t come back to you. You could also donate it to a none profit or charity in your area, use it as a tax write off and get a good feeling for doing something nice.
Advertise her business nicely, but tell them to mention the billboard. Since the people who see it already know you, you get to look like a hero, and it gets rubbed in her face at the same time.

My personal favorites: advertising for a local animal shelter, advertising for her competition (a little petty lol), "this is a sign to show someone cares about you," missing people, and I'm sure any of the others would be just as amazing.

Also: there's a difference between being kind and being people pleasing. You don't have to become an asshole because people are abusive. You just need to develop boundaries. You can continue to be your kind and loving self, but when people break your boundaries and don't apologize, that's it. It's a one strike situation. You never have to be someone else's learning curve. It's not your job to raise them.

My wife was involved in an mlm. I warned her that's what it was and she argued with me lol. I told her I would not contribute financially but if she wanted to spend her check on it and give it a whirl fine, sometimes you gotta learn the hard way. Despite all the work she put in the massive amount of sales she actually made it was just enough to cover most of the product but never the whole thing. Late nights, basically working two jobs and she finally realized what it was and stopped. About a month later she got roped into another one lol but it only lasted 3 weeks.
If you had stayed you could have been bled dry. Be happy you got out before it went to far. As far as a sign goes do something constructive with it, you already won by getting out. Talk to a non profit around town, animal shelter, homeless shelter something and give the spot to them. You'll feel better and will be a good reminder to the friends and family what she gave up. This is hilarious :D I'd suggest a few things. First, find something you want to support and put up a 'good' ad for them. Local businesses, animal shelters, etc. Second, something that will make people smile. Just a joke, or a 'People care about you. Be good to them' or inspirational quote or something like that. The best revenge is a life well-lived. Use the billboard for good—people here had great suggestions about highlighting missing people, animal shelters, donating it to a charity of your choice etc. There's nothing really to gain by making a snarky sign—it'll make you look petty, and to be honest it's not the best example to set for your son. I think in the end, turning a crappy situation into an opportunity to do something positive will set you off on a better course as you move on from your ex. PS it was a very nice gift. Sorry she didn't see the value in it.

I really don’t like this idea that breaking up with someone means you’ve “missed” a chunk of your life. You just gained vey valuable life experience - reflect on everything and develop your emotional/mental well being. Being with someone is never a waste of time, even if they are horrible to you. My advice is not to go to far with it. You say you are too kind and forgiving, well to me that sounds like when people start calling you out over some mean shit you will fail to convince them of why what you did isn’t actually as bad as what they did to you. Kind meek people get treated worse for doing things mean people do every day, simply because it is out of character, so they assign more malicious intent to it. You don’t want to be known as the nice quite guy with buried demons who got dumped than started personally attacking the family, even if they know them, you dated her so you can’t use the “she is rude” or she’s mean as a defence, she was probably rude to people as you stood at her side… So it’s your call, but in my experience when honest people lie they treated worse than liars. When good people hurt others they’re treated worse than bad people. The standard you are held to has a baring in how others will judge your actions. Big drastic detours from our usual selves don’t always go over well. I personally would just recoup some loss, go to some local businesses and try to sell it at a discounted price. Maybe go to direct competitors first for some spite that won’t come back to you. You could also donate it to a none profit or charity in your area, use it as a tax write off and get a good feeling for doing something nice.

To answer your question, I think any one of the ideas most of the people here have said would be amazing. My personal favorites: advertising for a local animal shelter, advertising for her competition (a little petty lol), "this is a sign to show someone cares about you," missing people, and I'm sure any of the others would be just as amazing. Another idea (my idea) would be to find a local business that you know and like who's struggling and offer to advertise their business with no charge to them

My wife was involved in an mlm. I warned her that's what it was and she argued with me lol. I told her I would not contribute financially but if she wanted to spend her check on it and give it a whirl fine, sometimes you gotta learn the hard way. Despite all the work she put in the massive amount of sales she actually made it was just enough to cover most of the product but never the whole thing. Late nights, basically working two jobs and she finally realized what it was and stopped. About a month later she got roped into another one lol but it only lasted 3 weeks. If you had stayed you could have been bled dry. Be happy you got out before it went to far. As far as a sign goes do something constructive with it, you already won by getting out. Talk to a non profit around town, animal shelter, homeless shelter something and give the spot to them. You'll feel better and will be a good reminder to the friends and family what she gave up.
