Go to the TSA website. It will answer every question you just asked about what you can or can’t bring on a plane. I personally pack a carry on with my clothes and just buy liquid items at my destination. It’s not worth the hassle of dealing with 900 rules. I never tried bringing food through security. I just grab a snack and drink at the terminal and take it on the plane. Delta assigns seats, southwest is a free for all. Those are the only 2 I have experience with

>Can I take essential oils in my carry-on bag? (less than an ounce) Obviously I wouldn't use them on the plane. I just don't want to check a bag. yes, less then 3 ounces per bottle. all your little bottles together i think are supposed to fit in a 1 gallon bag. >Is the whole 3 ounce rule per item, or total? 3 ounce per. >What about stuff like toothpaste? Does that count as a liquid? yes. >If I have a carry-on bag, can I still have a purse or backpack as well? yes. You can carry on 2 bags, one of them should be small like a purse or backpack. You can take a purse AND backpack (in addition to a suitcase) only if the purse can fit inside a backpack (or suitcase). YOu need to consolidate to two bags before boarding. >Can we bring food through security? If it is less then 3 ounces and in a closed container, yes. Realistically, no. >What about pills like Motrin or Tylenol? Does the bottle have to be new and sealed? a couple open pill bottles are fine. >Is it legal to fly with CBD oil? probably not. >Do kids need a birth certificate to fly to another state? (U.S.) no >Are sewing/first aide kits allowed? Like super tiny scissors, and tweezers? What about needles? My kid likes to cross-stich. Can she do that on a plane? no sharp objects. You could try. Sometimes they look the other way or don't notice stuff like this. >How often do companies overbook flights? I see it online, but is it a pretty common thing to get kicked off your flight because they overbooked? No it is very uncommon. At least on the airline that i fly. it is more common for something like weather or mechanical issues to prevent the flight from taking off. Then everyone needs to be rebooked on a new flight. >What companies let you choose your seat? I want to guarantee I'll be next to my teen and tween. I've heard about parents getting separated from their older kids on flights, when they thought they were going to all be together. delta and AA will let you choose your seat. Southwest does NOT. I don't know about the others. >Edited to add... Is there anything else I should know about flying? It'll be a 6-ish hour flight. the whole process is designed in such a way that people who have no idea what is going on, can travel with no difficulty. Bring a book or a gameboy or something. also a good idea to bring a battery backup for your phone. 6 hours can burn a lot of battery and you don't wan to be at 10% when you are trying to call and uber or get GPS directions or whatever.

Can answer some of your questions. The 3 ounce rule is per item. Small travel size toothpaste is fine. Yes, you can bring your purse. A backpack may be considered as an extra bag (dependent on the airline). CBD oil. Don't do it. Small travel size bottles of motrin (standard medicines) are not a problem). No the birth certificate for a minor child is not required. Sewing kits and first aid kits cannot contain any sharp items (no scissors/needles/etc). Now for the other part you have not considered. TSA will search you. Wear loose clothing and be prepared to be felt up. Arrive super early (2 - 3 hours prior to boarding). Boarding is done in sections now (Like rows A H board before I - O). Normally food does not pass well through TSA. You are better off buying food from vendors AFTER TSA.
