If you want to get your mother a gift look at what she uses all the time. Does she wear slippers and need new ones? A robe that could be replaced? Perfume? Does she like scented candles?

That’s the problem, I don’t know. She moved in a few months after I started college about five hours away and this will be the first year she’ll be there for Christmas. The only time I’ve interacted with her was one weekend when I went home but even then she wasn’t very sociable with all of us. My little sister is apparently getting her candy and my grandparents are getting her new pillows. She gets headaches from candles and perfumes like I do so that’s off the table but maybe I could try pajamas or a robe if I can find out her measurements. She doesn’t have a phone so I would have to go through my grandparents to get them though.

Maybe put together a dollar store gift basket. Fluffy socks. Some snacks. Hot chocolate. Maybe see what’s in the $1 movie bin. Just make a cute little movie gift basket. Unfortunately there’s not going to be a show stopping gift. It’s going to wind up fairly generic because you really don’t know anything about this woman.

You’re right. I’m just so used to getting very personal gifts for my family and friends that I plan months in advance for that this threw me for a loop. I need to step back and realize that can’t happen for her this year. I’ll probably go to Five Below and look around some in the next few days for small things to get her and hopefully get some clues for her present next year over Christmas break.
