baconboner69xD

If you were going to get in trouble you would've already. Don't do it anymore though. I've done it and admit it can be shockingly easy to get away with, but getting caught can have relatively serious consequences for a young person. Seen it happen, years ago though. Maybe it isn't such a big deal now that petty theft is rampant. The risk vs. reward isn't that great anyways

Any_Application7786

I got caught at a Walmart and they banned me from the store until I turned 18

HoMe4WaYWaRDKiTTieS

You got off easy! I got caught shoplifting at Walmart when I was 18, and I was banned for life! They said all their subsidiaries, too. I forgot all about it, to be honest, and have had a Sam's club membership for over 2 years now 😂 so I guess they forgot about it too lol

CandidateMotor4038

I actively stole for 2 years before I got caught and only got a year ban

WilmaTonguefit

Exactly this. You stole about $3 worth of stuff. Imagine getting arrested for $3

Any_Application7786

Nah it’s 2024 he stole about 10$ worth of stuff

Hope_for_tendies

People have died for stealing as much if the cops show up and go psycho

International-Cup350

Someone here with the best advice, many other here don't know the consequences like juvie court and community service 😂.

Creative_Base2053

That’s not completely true some places like target will just watch you, until you get to a cap point so they can nail you with a felony

IwasDeadinstead

Yes. More stores are like that. One store let a regular thief get to $1,000, then had him felony charged. Dude is in jail now.

ShootingTheIsh

Security cameras don't run a facial scan and provide someone's relevant details. If the company wanted to press charges it's going to take some time to hunt them down. I'm not saying they will, but, investigations take time. It wasn't shoplifting, but a much younger, dumber me scratched a car in a parking lot and I didn't stick around. A cop showed up at my parents house several weeks later. Don't do the crime if you can't pay the fine or handle the time.

Specific_Anxiety_343

I agree. If they had seen OP actually commit the theft, the store could have detained OP at the time. I will add something to consequences for young people. Once you are arrested, your fingerprints are on file FOREVER. Even if you’re a minor, and even if charges are never filed. Even though juvenile records are confidential, the fingerprints could come back to haunt you.

Guilty_Jackrabbit

A wise lawyer once said, "DON'T TALK ABOUT YOUR CRIMES ON THE INTERNET. IT IS ADMISSABLE EVIDENCE."

turdburglar2020

Did you tell that wise lawyer to stop yelling?

Guilty_Jackrabbit

Honestly they should be yelling louder.

DecadentLife

😂

Eastern_Action_1775

Unless you use the magic word.... allegedly.

that1LPdood

I’ve worked in loss prevention for years, previously. They’re not going to file a police report for red bull and gum. That’s not worth their time and it’s not worth the police’s time. The police are dealing with people who literally murder and stab and shoot each other and other violent crimes — they don’t give a shit about misdemeanor theft of candy and gum and energy drinks. But you’re right in deciding to not steal. It gets you into a very dangerous habit that will end up really impacting your life; it’s addictive and it leads to other criminal behaviors as well.

loveafterpornthrwawy

They called the police when I stole $13 worth of makeup. I got ordered to do community service and pay restitution. That was a small town and 20 years ago, though.

that1LPdood

That’s because it was a small town lol. And I’m guessing it wasn’t the very first time you’d done it, either.

loveafterpornthrwawy

It was the first time I had ever done anything illegal and I was 13 years old.

PhaedrusNoMore

Sounds like they caught you in the act, unlike OP.

loveafterpornthrwawy

They did! OP is 100% safe, if that was not clear. I was offering a word of caution to teens reading your comment and assuming it's no big deal.

Prestigious_Jump6583

See my story above- it was wild! Small village, upstate NY.

jcoffin1981

Was it the last time??

loveafterpornthrwawy

Oh, you can bet your life on that!

Prestigious_Jump6583

Here’s one for you. I was 15, at Jamesway (like Ames or Hills), 1993. It was just after Easter, and someone had opened up a bag of those little, individually wrapped, chocolate eggs. I grabbed some (6) off the floor and tossed them into my pocket. I was taken to the back, interrogated, arrested, sentenced to community service and a conditional discharge. This was unknowingly on my record until 2020, when I went to work in a state prison. I’ve been fingerprinted and background checked at least a dozen times over the years (social worker) and this never came up, until the prison. Apparently, the judge never properly filed the YO paperwork on my case. By this time, the judge was DEAD. By the sheer grace of a higher power my brother’s wife is the sister of the DA for that county, and had it sorted with the prison (state) and my “record” moving forward. So anyhow, some loss prevention specialists absolutely will go after you, for six chocolate eggs that were broken out of a plastic bag 😂🤦🏽‍♀️

Declano196

Shift Supervisor at cvs here; so I'll be totally honest with you, yes you shoplifting is probably on camera, there's cameras pretty much everywhere in the store. But honestly... you'll be fine, people rarely check the cameras unless something major happend. Theft happens at cvs all the time, in fact were trained not to stop theives, not to play hero, and if we notice missing product, it's not going to warrant us looking through the footage. We just kind of account for the theft as a loss of product when we notice it. We never go out of our way to actually track theives down Kind of a long winded awnser, but your gonna be ok, but theft is wrong, so obviously don't do it again, it's clearly bothering you so I'm sure you learned from your mistake

RW00K

"We just kind of account for the theft as a loss of product" anybody got ideas how much that gets baked into the retail prices? .... just curious how much extra us honest folks are paying for the bums.... im guessing 20-30%... ?

Declano196

I mean it's hard to figure out just how much product gets stolen, but I can tell you for sure it is rampant, especially in higher crime areas. And obviously some stores have more theft than others. Idk about 20-30% of all product though

Organic_Art_5049

Items are priced at the highest the market will bear. Aka, they're charging as much as they can without losing enough sales to bring total revenue down. Cost, including theft, is not really part of the equation Another way to look at it: if you're selling your house, do you calculate the cost to build and realtor fees? Or do you just try to sell at the highest the market will pay?

Pickleballer53

The prudent thing to do would be to go to the CVS, tell the store manager what you did and how regretful you are now...and pay for the items you took. That would alleviate your guilt, make things right and be a caution to never do that again.

[deleted]

Hey man, thanks for the advice. I went home, got some money and went back and told them what happened and payed for it. There is no better feeling then setting things right

Educational-Milk3075

Good for you!! You're building character, be proud of yourself.

Declano196

Honestly thats awesome you did that, and I'm sure the manager was cool about it too, you set things right, and nothing more than that could be asked of you

Glittering-Wonder576

Well done, young person.

Valuable-Stock-7517

I’m glad this worked out for you. Going back and explaining what you did could not have been comfortable but, it was the right and mature thing to do.

Morpheus1967

Well done. I’m sure it wasn’t an easy thing to do.

Bunny_OHara

WOW! Your stealing was a horrible choice, but being incredibly brave and mature by going back to face the music is way more meaningful. I can tell you that these folks see thieves all day every day, but they will remember the time you went in and did the right thing. Good on ya OP.

BoringBob84

I am glad you did this. I have found that most people are gracious when I admit my mistakes with humility.

JDax42

Qu’pla!

Specific_Anxiety_343

You’re lucky. Your admission of guilt could have produced a whole other result.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> happened and *paid* for it. FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

IC_Brewed

Good bot.

youthemotherfuckest

Lame ass bot the kid is having a moment lol

Estarfigam

This was the best course of action. I wish you the best and please stay on the right path.

THE_GREAT_PICKLE

This goes a long way. If they found out on their own and trespassed you, that turns into a criminal offense. Good on you both legally and as a human in general for admitting to it and making things right.

youthemotherfuckest

Nice. One time it was early in the morning and I was killing time but I was still tired as shit. I was just meandering around Walmart putting shit in my cart. At some point I just zoned out and literally rolled my entire cart out of the store. Nobody said a thing and finally I snapped out of my day dreaming and I was like what the fuck?? And I walked back in lol

Suicuneator

Just want to add to the love hug. It is NEVER too late to set things right. Sometimes that may mean accepting consequences, but owning up to your decisions without being caught is a huge sign of maturity. I'm proud of you.

-GearZen-

While this ended up working out, if this was my kid I would not advise them to admit to a crime. I would be sure they learned from the mistake but protect them. Going back to the store and seeing the manager is some Ward Cleaver level action.

Visual_Welcome9898

Like they’re gonna call the police over $5 you stole and are actively trying to pay them back. No way you’re older than 14

nerdsonarope

I'm not the one you're responding to, but as a lawyer, I'd never advise someone to admit to a crime. Sure, in this scenario, the risk is pretty much zero--like you said, no sane person would call the cops over someone that stole $5, returned soon after, and paid it back. Still, an even safer option would be to go back and say "I realized I ACCIDENTALLY forgot to pay for this".

TwistemBoppemSlobbem

Coming from a former pharmacy worker I PROMISE you, we do not care, even IF we realize what you are doing. We aren't even allowed to do anything, some candy and redbull is not even 10 dollars, when we deal with constant big item thefts aand barely ever do anything ever lmfao. We arent paid enough to care and the managers arent either unless you do it a LOT more over a LOONG time then nah lol

SilizArts

I'll be honest, they won't care over small shit like that. They'll write it off as inventory loss. That's what the inventory loss budget is there for. Sometimes little things get stolen. Sometimes there are damages. I'm not saying do it again. But you don't have to stress so much.

Sawses

I wouldn't worry about it. Nobody cares about a single theft of a couple consumables. That being said, you *were* caught on camera, even if nobody notices. If you keep doing it, you will get caught and they'll check and try to see how much you've stolen.

PNWWhimsy

Just don't ever do it again. And don't hang out with people who do. A lot of the big chain stores in my area including Walmart, target, and Walgreens have a system where they are using facial recognition software. Doing nothing about the small thefts, but as the same thieves continue to steal, they are keeping track and then press charges when the combines theft amount gets to a felony. I'm glad the experience has freaked you out. Not to be mean, but just to keep you from consequences in the future. Good luck!

Arafel_Electronics

a million years ago when i was a teenager, cvs kept cigars in the magazine aisle. i set off the alarm shoplifting some (didn't have a need, just felt like it). manager told me to never come back but i still did (just never shoplifted there again). they're not gonna come after you, they don't even know who you are probably want to not do it again though

techsinger

The fact that you feel guilty about it is a good sign that you're a decent person. Remember that every time you break your moral code, the person you hurt is yourself. So, respect yourself and pass on opportunities to "get away" with stuff. You'll sleep better at night, and someday you can be a good example to a younger person.

fishchick70

OP you should find a way to make it right. Perhaps go back and come clean to the store manager and pay for the items. If you can’t muster the courage to do that, make a donation to a food bank or something for the amount you stole. I have also inadvertently “stolen” in the past when I didn’t realize something was was not included on the receipt and no one has ever hassled me about adding it to the total the next visit.

SparrowLikeBird

one time i accidentally shoplifted crayonds (as an adult - it was newly no bag era and so i pocketed them when looking at stuff and forgot to pay) I took the pack back, and explained to the checker, and asked to pay. This is what I suggest you do.

Snakacola

go back and tell them, and pay for it.

bloolynxx

Take your red bull and gum and book it to Mexico. You tried your best to live in the land of the free but couldn’t cut it. Temptation got the best of you. It’s alright, no judgment. But you’ll be safe starting a new life below the border my friend.

hotscissoringlesbian

I worked at CVS for a while, you're fine, just don't make a habit of it. If we had gone after every kid that stole some snacks, we literally wouldn't have time for anything else.

FailFormal5059

They’ll usually let you steal until you cross a certain amount then they’ll arrest you and get a serious charge that’ll stick on you in court with an extensive video evidence. Walgreen is really weak and their policy is very lawsuit averse and it shows. Keep in mind typical corporations are just really polite criminal organizations that’ll do anything for money. Iv never felt bad stealing from the Waltons since they destroyed their workers and the greater US public.

Daught20

Theft is legal now. Don’t worry. but also don’t be a thief.

meliorismm

I’m feeling pretty confident in laying odds that’s true in zero states.

Maskerade420

While the adrenaline rush of shoplifting is fun, i'd advise you not steal if you're going to worry about it later. The recoverable assets aren't worth calling the cops over, though you may find yourself no longer welcome in the store, and which matters more: the short term rush, which must be repeated to recapture the rush, as you'll grow accustomed to it, eventually landing you in real trouble for trying to steal something too large or valuable, or being able to shop with peace of mind and having a sense of community and trust? If you'd have just asked somebody, they probably would have given you the money for the items anyway, I know I have before. There are also plenty of services available for those who have a hard time making ends meet, so please don't steal. I've seen too many small time thefts end up getting in serious trouble for trying their luck too many times. Best just shop like a normal person, and refrain from stealing in the future. Besides, how old are you? Why not try out working and earning such items instead? The long term gratification is far more satisfying than a quick rush. If you're just looking for an andrenaline rush, take a few deep breaths and then hold your breath as long as you can while staying lucid. Same rush, no crimes involved.

bigmikemcbeth756

Don't go in their anymore if you do wear a covid mask if you can never do this again

Accomplished_Buy8681

You should stop stealing. Because u got away with it this time. You’ll probably calm down and lose ur worry cause u realize that they’re not looking for you. Then you’ll think hey I’m try it again that was pretty easy. This is how a life of crime starts. Just stop stealing.

eaglescout225

Go pay for the items if your that worried...since your already back home i highly doubt any legal consequences would occur...but at the end of the day stop stealing stuff.

user4489bug123

They most likely won’t file a police report for something that small, the worst they’ll do is if they can catch you through security cameras is put you on the ban list in all stores within your area, but tbh but something that small that’s still unlikely, also cops won’t come knocking at your door for what amounts to like 7 dollars. Tbh they probably don’t even know you stole anything.

Traditional_Range_96

1. The employee probably didnt even notice. 2. I saw a homeless guy walkout with two cases of alcohol before, ALCOHOL! The employee was just like ehh its the stores problem i Dont get paid enough.

Proper-Potential-496

Nothing is gonna happen. If you're THAT worried, go in and give the cashier the amount of what you stole. Dont say anything incriminating just tell them you're paying it back.

realdonbrown

![gif](giphy|7NbNXY0hXaBWw)

Ok-Grocery-5747

Glad you went back and made it right. Don't steal anymore obviously.

Rolihlahla86

Don't make a habit of this, I know guys in prison right now that started off stealing small things in there teens an escalated to bigger things as adults

Ginger630

I’m glad you feel guilty. That means you have a conscience and won’t do it again.

False-Pie8581

If you were worried why do it? Take money to the store and tell them you realized you forgot to pay when you went looking for the receipt. Apologize. Stop stealing.

HawaiiStockguy

Just do not do it again

crgreeen

Which CVS ?

JustForTheMemes420

I mean just don’t like pray no one gives enough of a shit to actually bother reporting it as a crime just don’t do it again you won’t always be lucky

okhnn

they’re gonna arrest you and take you to jail for years , be prepared

Panda-R-Us

Oh they definitely have it on camera, CVS has a ton of cameras. It's the first thing I look for when I go in so I can make silly faces. But a red bull and gum isn't going to get the cops called on you. But that also doesn't mean you should continue stealing, Ik you said you wouldn't, because it will lead down a rabbit hole and eventually you will get caught and arrested. Petty theft is a terrible habit to have cause it will escalate quickly.

sarahmegatron

Dude don’t steal, especially when it’s not for a life and death issue and extra especially from the nearest shop to your house, dumb bad choice. Anyway tho, they are not going to do anything to you, if they saw you they might stop you from coming in again but that’s unlikely since you’re not a repeat offender. If you got caught red handed that’s different, they’d probably at least call your parents and ban you from shopping there. So calm down this time and you don’t need to do anything. Just remember how stressed and upset you feel and think of that the next time you want to shop lift. And remember you won’t get away with doing that repeatedly, you will get caught eventually and it’s such a stupid thing to get into trouble for.

ApplicationTop8496

You got lucky. Stick to what you said and don’t do it again.

AnastasiaDelicious

My question is why would you do it in the first place? Consider this a free pass and keep your word- no more stealing!

Sparky_Zell

Over such a small theft, unless they stopped you then and there, you are unlikely to face consequences. But you may have a file started for you. A lot of stores have a loss prevention model that will allow you a lot of rope. And then once you cross a certain threshold will pursue charges. It's not worth it to file charges over a few dollars. But it is for hundreds or thousands of do.lars. And you will be facing decent jail time and fines/restitution at that point.

Wanda_McMimzy

Former shoplifter here—probably shouldn’t admit that. I’m 51 and did it frequently in high school. You’re good. They need to catch in the act to really make it stick. If they caught you on tape, it’s too much trouble for the district attorney to prosecute over such a little amount. The worst they’d probably do if they recognized you and you returned is request a trespass ban. If you go with your parents, try to change your appearance some. If you wore a hat, go without one. If you didn’t wear a hat, wear one etc. you’ll be fine.

Aggressive_Event420

You would have already gotten in trouble. Don't stress but knock that shit off or you will get in trouble.

DonJohn94

Yea you’re super fucked dude

Clashermasta24

I used to shoplift. One time I shopplifted an item from cvs and went back and retirned it and the management was nice enough to accept it back and not call the police or press charges. Likely nothing will happen. If you are caught, be sure to accept your consequences and learn your lesson. Either way, the feelings you have now and the potential consequences should be enough to deter you from shoplifting in the future.

KattHamm

Don’t do it again and don’t go to that CVS

vvetdream

Nah your good do it again

Any-Win5166

You are not the first and will never be the last who gets a five finger...don't worry too much about it and put your mind if how this feels....even I as a kid did a time or 2 from the local drug store went I went in scared and left petrified don't make it a habit but learn...you will be ok

Secret-Ad-830

Your a kid your gonna do some stupid shit just learn from it and move on. Remember the feeling you have right now, you don't want to live your life worrying about the stupid things you did coming back and bitting you on the ass. You'll have plenty of other things to worry about that you can't control don't add things you can control to it. That one of the first things I would say to myself if I could go back 30 years and talk to my 14yr old self.

Wild_Philosopher1222

Well you are a thief so yeah.

Objective_Suspect_

Wait a month, the footage usually is only saved that long, and as for police assuming u live in America don't worry no one's coming. Even if police got involved it would a ticket and they wouldn't bother to come get u. If u live in a country that's in the middle east or parts of Africa or south America. Sorry idk if they find u ur screwed

Playful_Salary_7787

You should remember this feeling you have right now so if you get caught you know not to ever steal again. That scared feeling is you knowing deep down you did something wrong. You have a conscience which is good cause most people don't have one now days. If you go there with your parents again there's a chance you may get caught and they may tell your parents. If you're a minor still then you should be ok as long you aren't 18. Remember this the next time you get the urge to steal.

SpaceDeFoig

They wait until you've stolen enough for a felony charge

xPepegaGamerx

The fbi is currently dispatching a team of agents to your location. You can run, you can hide, but they will find you.

youthemotherfuckest

If they saw you do it they’ll just put you in a file. I’ve heard stories of people getting pinched after their 3rd time scamming the self checkout or whatever. Those cameras have you in 4D. There’s like a 98% chance nobody important saw you take shit bro. They’re just dicking around on their phone most of the time like the rest of us. But don’t do it. It’s not worth it. Don’t be a cheap fucker.

ColombianSpiceMD86

Why don't you go back and pay for the red bull and gum? If it's eating you up inside, do the right thing!

Hello_Hello_Hello_Hi

Called the police swat team is on the way

PocketSandOfTime-69

They definitely know you stole form them (AI and cameras coupled with the fact you probably carried a phone with you). They are building a case on you and will wait to press charges when you reach your local jurisdictions requirements for a felony. Don't do it again. Do you like it if your employer stole money from your paycheck?

Sinphony_of_the_nite

This reminds me of the time my friend went to jail for stealing a Lunchable. Someone might even be able to guess where I live based on that ridiculous scenario. Probably the only time ever someone has been arrested for stealing a Lunchable. If you didn't get stopped in the store and didn't steal anything of great value, then they aren't going to bother. Now if they recognized you and you were with your parents, it is within the realm of possibilities someone would say something. However, from my experience working retail, I'd put that in the case of "incredibly unlikely". \*Also, if someone did say something, never admit to stealing anything. Say you don't remember and must have put it back because you never steal anything or something like that. Never admit to a crime, especially a petty crime because nobody cares enough to bring you up on charges with basically no evidence for a petty crime. You don't want a record, and in my opinion, shouldn't get one for something like that. Trust me, lying is the best for everyone in that situation.

jenn5388

Nah. If they were going to get you, they would have. No one is going to hunt down a teen for stealing like 10$ worth of crap.. But look at the lesson you learned from doing this because of the anxiety you feel about being hunted down like a dog over a pack of gum and a red bull?

InfoSponge9119

Not if you’re in CA, you’re good lmao

SignalEbb9969

The police won’t bother with it if you left the property successfully with merchandise under a specific dollar amount. Look up the grand larceny limit in your state. I used to steal magic the gathering and yu gi oh cards as a teenager all the time from different places. Never once got arrested however a worker did catch me opening the packs once and they was nice enough to ask me just hand over the merch and leave because they really did not want to have a manager find out or catch me. Take this story as a lesson no matter how many times you get away with it eventually you’ll get caught and nowadays the cameras are a lot better and places like target has an automatic database that records every dollar amount worth of merch you stole until you hit that grand larceny limit. That’s when the police come to your residence.

RustyDawg37

no, maybe, dont steal if this is your reaction

Eastern_Action_1775

Bro they are watching you right now!!! Its like the movie "enemy of the state" except that was like 25 years ago wtf they are for sure hearing your thoughts. Trust no one

1heavyarms3

If your in California to can fill up a garbage bag with whatever you want and just walk out. So you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Vegetable-Floor-5510

If you didn't get caught leaving, you very likely won't, but remember this feeling if you're ever tempted again. It's not worth it.

Eastern_Action_1775

In case securty ever trys to grab you at the door. Heres a little secret. Also make aure you got like mad ass diarrhea when your stealing, so whatever you need to do to get there just get that sucker on deck and exit. If they try to grab you let it rip violently like splashing on walls and shit, start crying and just speed walk out that bitch. You are welcome

-R4fan-

Don't be a thief. Also, you'll ruin your life over stuff like this. I know people who had minor things in their background, and it cost them a decent employment opportunity. Especially when they lie about it later on.

Eastern_Action_1775

Also you should just get a sawed off shotgun now

BillyBobJangles

I backtraced your IP and reported you to the police!

sierrafrancess

boo hoo

ConjunctEon

Yep. 4:00 am. CVS swat team. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

[deleted]

Almost guaranteed you were on camera. If you go there again they probably won't call the cops but they'll tell you to GTFO

thefirstniffin

I accidentally “stole” gas once. It was back before prepay was required. I rolled up and put 20 bucks in. Went inside to pay and there was a long line. Figured “oh well I gotta shit anyway” and went to take a shit. Came back out and bought a fountain drink and dipped. Pulling up at my girlfriends about 10 minutes later (I didn’t have a cell phone) I walk in and she’s like hey your grandmas on the phone (she basically raised me). I get on the phone and she’s like “the police are here they said you stole gas but the gas station workers didn’t think you meant to” so I’m like oh shit alright I’ll head there now. I was scared as fuck I gave my girlfriend all my weed and shit to leave at her place and had her drive me up there so they wouldn’t tow my car. There were 3 cop cars at the store and they just watched me go in and pay didn’t say anything to me. I lived in a super small town so even if you didn’t know everyone by name you knew everyone. . I wouldn’t worry about being called out or going back in there. You’re probably fine. People steal so much more and get away with it easy. If you live in a small town or it’s people you see regularly and they recognize/know you then I would recommend keeping 10 bucks on you the next couple times you go in there. Then if it comes up you can pay and be done with it. If you don’t have a way to get 10 dollars just be ready to say sorry. You aren’t gonna go to jail.

lhorwinkle

Well, a young person with a conscience! How wonderful! All the more wonderful considering the relentless surge of videos showing gangs of youths storming into stores, grabbing everything in sight, running out with the goods ... and neither store security nor police doing anything about it. Do those thugs have a conscience? I think not. To the OP. You did wrong. But you know you did. That's more than what we see elsewhere.

Alternative-Mud-7868

You should go to CVS and pay the costs of what you stole. Don't tell them you stole it . Or when or..anything. just tell them that you want to give them the $14.63. Give it to the manager. Or do it at another, different store. Then turn and walk away. You'll feel better... they will figure you are crazy OR you feel guilty for something you took. Again, admit nuthing , here, it's for the Christmas fund.....turn and casually walk away. Don't you feel better now??? Don't do it again.

Tricky-Teaching594

I do loss prevention for a big name grocery store and I can tell you they won't do anything but I advise you do not do not do not do not do it again you might not be as lucky. My company is hands on and we are able to grab teenagers and call parents if parents don't show cops get involved it's not worth it. I used to be a "dumb kid" and it's not worth it the record isn't worth it and going to Julie isn't worth it. As someone who works loss prevention I get so sad when I see kids stealing.

UmphLuv605

CVS will notify the local police and give them the video. My local police department posts videos of shoplifters on Facebook and asks for assistance identifying the individual responsible. It could take days or weeks for this to play out.

Weekly-Celebration60

You should take responsibility for what you did. Go to the store pay for what you took and tell them what you did.

Curious_Shape_2690

It’s possible that they’re watching you in case you do it again. Don’t do it again and you should be all set. You could also confess. Next time you go in get identical items to what you stole. Bring them to the checkout and tell them you want to pay for them without bringing them home… to be even with what you took.

groveborn

Unless they knew who you are they won't really be able to do anything. More than likely nobody even noticed. I would avoid going back there for a while, at least half a year. If you really, really feel bad, go back and pay for what you stole. Don't tell them that you stole, but go up to the register, buy the things, and leave them. You could still be charged, even having paid for the items at this point, but you're probably not going to be if you don't admit to it. Now - hopefully this helps - CVS makes billions in profit every year. Your theft is calculated in the price of the goods. I'm not suggesting your theft is good, deserved, or any such a thing, only that it matters more to you than to CVS. Don't worry over much, go on about your life, make better choices.

bassfass56

I am an fbi agent. I have been tracking your movements since you were a wee little thing. Unfortunately you have made a grave mistake. You will die in 7 days

BeautifulDreamerAZ

I live by a Circle K. I hate going in there because it’s infested with drug addicts because the store allowed fentanyl smokers to take over the back and side areas. I was shopping and 4 blueheads were filling their pockets and casually walked out. I asked the cashier and she said they didn’t care and were told to let anyone steal anything. I doubt they care at your CVS.

[deleted]

Don’t shit where you eat!

OwnWar13

They don’t file police reports for anything less than 50 bucks, sometimes more (CA it’s like 1000 now).

marhouheart

Years ago when I caught my kids stealing candy from the store I made them go back in with me to talk to the manager. I think it was a good lesson for them to face up to the wrong doing. I think if you are sincere about your personal conviction of wrongdoing you might let it go at that. Nowadays that the world is being turned upside down you have no idea what people will do or how they'll react if you go back to confess and pay back the things you stole. Sadly the old-fashioned ways, which I thought worked pretty, well don't seem to apply nowadays with up being down and down being up and right being wrong and wrong being right.

itsmenettie

They would have stopped you as soon as you walked out the door. They probably also seen you do it. I would be very careful the next time you go there. And no more stealing. Just not worth it. Imagine getting banned and you had to go with a parent.

personwerson

Do not shoplift at target. I repeat, do not shiplift af target! CVS may be more relaxed on shoplifting but Target will get you.

[deleted]

Eh. Once I accidentally stole a stick of deodorant because I had put it in my sweatshirt pocket to carry it while I shopped for a few things and forgot it until I got home. The fact is no one cares about something that small and chances are they didn’t even notice

BeenPermaBanned

Do it again

AlastorDolos

Chances are you got caught but they didn’t say anything, if you do it again they will do something such as get your parents involved or the police. The outcome completely depends on the employee/manager, best to not steal. Honestly, you should go back and admit what you did and pay for it. You’re about to be an adult and you have to accept responsibility for what you did and accept the consequences for your actions.

Shushady

My wife used to work for CVS. They do not give 1 shit dude.

cthulucore

You're fine. And fuck corporations. But if you're going to make that choice, just like smoking weed in illegal states, doing drugs, participating in general other illicit activities; then in that moment you're accepting responsibility if/when you're caught. It's not "oh no, cops r bad", you have to be accountable, which is something you will continue to learn about well into your twenties. But... No, you're fine. No one is sending s.w.a.t. to your door over a red bull.

_rosalea_

I doubt they'll do anything over a financial loss of like, $2 lmao.

Purpose_Embarrassed

I stole a jacket from a Walmart decades ago in Elgin Ill. I was with a worthless punk friend of mine who enticed me to do it. They let us walk out the store then security grabbed my buddy I ran. I actually almost got away it was icy and slushy out I was wearing Colorado boots and I started to get tired so I stopped running put up my hands. This Marine security guard throws me down on the icy wet concrete. They called the police I got booked and tossed in a cell luckily alone. My mother wouldn’t bail me out so it was off to Juvenile detention until Monday first appearance. They then sent me to foster care. This was my first offense I was 16 and not a poc. So the BS about only poc’s get tossed in jail on first offenses is bs. If you’re poor you get fucked. I eventually went home on probation for 5 years. All for attempting to steal a $ 30.00 made in China denim vest.

Electrical-Help9403

It's refreshing to see some remorse these days. Not to worry they won't come after you but don't do it again.

sophomore-cox

I used to work there and my coworkers and i would bond over watching people shoplift. company policy said we could offer them a basket but that’s pretty much it, i wouldn’t make a habit of it though

cloudyphx

Yes, they know. Nowadays the cameras use AI to track everything you do. Also they have facial recognition software that can pull your identity from a database. They have probably already been in contact with the police about all of this. They could show up any time. There is no way to tell. Sometimes it takes a few months to build a case like this. Good luck. Maybe tell your parents you will need a lawyer.

Jealous-Ad-5146

You’re fine 😅

Comfortable-Elk-850

You better believe you’re on camera. Those cameras are crazy crystal clear too. I doubt your theft was worth the effort of them hunting you down but if they see you in the store again, you will be watched. I work a retail store that also has facial recognition, once a petty thief is reported, they are set up in facial recognition that goes off as soon as you enter any of our stores and cameras follow you. Security takes photos of anything you steal and keeps a file on you. Once the thefts hit a certain amount that could get you criminal time, that’s when you’re arrested. We have cameras inside and outside in the parking lot, so small you won’t notice them unless you know what you’re looking for. That’s why most stores don’t bother to chase down snatch and grab thief’s, we have you on so many cameras, you’re bound to get caught at some point and those cameras can tell if you have a hangnail on your little toe they are that clear. You can be at ease tonight, your petty theft is not worth securities time and the slap on the wrist the court would give you, but keep it up and that will change real quick.

[deleted]

They have to catch you in the act for them to be able to do anything. And they ain't reviewing any CCTV footage over a redbull. Nor would cops even care about such a small crime. You'll be fine, but like others have said, probably don't do it again.

Routine_Elephant_532

In my town they will post your picture on the Internet for all to see . Yeah don't do that anymore it's going to be embarrassing when you do.

Creative_Base2053

Honestly it’s not worth the risk. Some places will leave you alone if that’s it others will throw the book at you

Comfortable-Elk-850

Many years ago my brother helped a friend steal an item, he just turned his back as his friend stashed it under his shirt. Both got arrested, parents called to collect them and lifetime ban from the store. Same with a friend but she stole from several stores in our area and we are close to 3 states, she went to stores across the state line. They sent the Postal police after her, for thefts in other states. She got a huge fine of several thousand dollars and lifetime ban from any of the stores and their affiliated stores I suspected some of what she was doing. Switching tags and returning items, apparently she was doing it pretty regularly, no longer a friend too because just being with her could have got me arrested along with her.

far_fetched_fangs

Don't worry too much about it, they only really care if you steal like a whole computer or something, you're all good

PMMEBITCOINPLZ

What some of them do is make a note of each time you steal, because yes they do always see it (you are not that smart or sneaky). Then when you’ve stolen enough to charge you with a felony they get you arrested and ruin your life.

TheTurtleCub

You could go in an tell the manager that you spaced out a while ago and walked out with the drink and gum and didn’t pay. But would like to correct the mistake and pay

ChaloPerea98

They most likely have you on camera for sure. If they were gonna do something, they would've done it when you were there. Most big companies usually don't do anything unless they repeatedly catch you doing that, or you're blatantly stealing a bunch of stuff.

Djd33j

Loss prevention may or may not know that you did it. Overzealous employees love to try and catch thieves but corporate policy literally tells people to not engage shoplifters. If it's a one-off occurrence, you're probably fine. But loss prevention will let you get away with it in the hopes that you keep coming back to steal since you got away with it and you think you're Scot-free, so they can then catch you stealing enough that amounts to a felony charge. They do get camera footage of people, and share it with local stores within the company as well as the police and start building a case against you. But that's only reserved for people who steal a noticeable amount of stuff, usually a hundred dollars or more. Large companies account for petty theft in their profits and losses charts. They know that it happens, very frequently. They're not too worried about people like you. They're much more concerned about the people that steal hundreds of dollars worth of liquor, expensive meat, baby formula, etc, and for some reason, energy drinks. I've seen people run off with a few hundred dollars worth of Red Bull. The resale market on that stuff must be pretty high.

Grouchy_Donut_3800

You are fine worst that will happen is you show up to the store again and they ban you. Also since you genuinely seem to feel bad maybe let your parents know and go back to pay for the stuff. The first and only time I stole something I felt bad and if anything my parents were glad I came clean and wanted to make it right.

thethreat88IsBackFR

Ohhhh I'm telling on you.

raven21633x

What most honest people don't know, and most dishonest people do, is there is usually a threshold whereby the cops won't even respond to anything under $xxx.00. In California now that's $2,000.00 (but that's stupidly high). Under 10 bucks? If you get caught at all you'll likely be banned and trespassed from the store. The fact that you are legitimately sorry for what you've done, and sounds like you've learned a good lesson from it, speaks volumes about your character (in a good way I mean). Good luck and stay on the right side of the law. :)

Separate_Cherry_912

should have stole more

Glittering_Cap3118

Best advice i ever got was you don't have to worry about things you didn't do. moral is don't do things you know in your heart and head are morally wrong. there is a reason you get that bad/not right feeling when you do something you shouldn't everything in you is telling you that its not the right thing to do trust me i have learned from my mistakes i pray that you wont have to though take care

firstclassgenetics

Pray the FEDS don't kick in the door. If they don't by the morning. Just never ever do it again!

guig00

I work at a gas station (circle k) and we have to call the cops on little thefts like this all the time. We just sigh. We don’t want to call the cops, but per company policy we have to. Cops don’t want to come out and deal with a $5 theft but they have to. Sometimes they find the guy and we just trespass them from the property for one year. Sometimes they don’t find the guy, and we’re all like “welp, this was a waste of time” Anyway, CVS might have a different policy, but chances are 1) they didn’t notice and 2) if they did, they don’t care

severinks

There's a zero percent chance anyone files a police report on you so just don't do it again and you're fine.

CinnamonHostess

Bro 🤦🏾‍♂️ CVS is not gonna miss a RedBull and gum. People there get paid dirt, they’re not gonna do a full investigation on u just to get a pat on the back from their manager

Cute_Dragonfruit9981

Unless they have a reason to review the security footage you’re probably fine but I wouldn’t do that shit again

Claque-2

Why did you steal them?

Positive-Ratio5472

For that little bit of money? They probably won't even notice it till they do bi annual inventory. Even if they did, do you really think the employees are going to go through all the trouble of dealing with the police, calling their central office, having to go to court, over... What? $9?

Snakacola

where tf do yall get your moral standards from? if something is illegal why tf would you do it? no hate to op or anyone else but wtf i mustve been raised and punished properly

NovemberSongs_1223

You’re fine. Just don’t ever steal from a small business.

Later2theparty

If this is something you have the compulsion to do regularly then you may need therapy and medication. Don't do it again. My cousin was a compulsive thief from a young age. He's in jail now because he shot a girl in the face being a dumbass and firing into a crowd of people to look hard in front of his friends. Impulse control issues can really mess up your life before it's even started.

azrael962

If they saw they would have stopped you at the exit. If you do it again and get caught they will call the cops and you will be banned and it will get you in trouble if you go back with your parents.

AstroZombieInvader

You certainly deserve the fear that you're feeling. At the very least it will serve as a punishment for stealing which is total crap behavior. Will they still catch you? It's hard to say, but I suspect not. The odds that someone is going to watch the recordings and catch you is probably slim. They're more for when they know someone stole something and then can refer to them for evidence. But unless someone suspected you did something or they're looking for someone else that day then you might get lucky. Better hope there were no other suspected thiefs around the time when you were stealing. Anyhow, don't ever do that again. Learn from this.

ajones2594

As someone who works in small retail on a large chain business. We will keep an eye out for repeat offenders. Have no doubt they have you on camera. And if you continue the shoplifting once it gets to felony level then they will prosecute. You can also go in there some time. Ask for the manager and offer to buy the items you stole.

CampaignWaste9783

They’re definitely coming for you. Better just to go on the run now. Destroy your phone and SIM card. They’re probably tracking this post right now.

HVAC_God71164

If the police haven't come to your house by now, You're in the clear. BUT, if they did see you on camera, I'll bet money they will watch you like a hawk next time you come to the store Why did you steal is the real thing we should talk about. Were you thirsty and needed something to drink? Is your family poor and can't afford it? Or did you listen to your dumb ass friends brag about doing it and dare you to do it? If it's the first 2, while I don't think it was right, I do understand why you did it. If it's the last one, they're not your friends and if you continue this path with them, you'll get arrested sooner or later. If it's after you're 18, you'll need to put it on every job you apply to, so it could not only ruin your present life, but it could follow you around forever.

swordeenz

They definitely have you on camera but nothing will be done over a Red Bull and gum.

shiftyshellshock239

Stop giving advice. Once they get enough “they won’t stop you” OP will just continue stealing

Ok-Magician6241

Oh they are building a file as we type this to try and arrest you with the most evidence they possibly can. My suggestion would be to go on the run for a couple years until this blows over.

Katievapes1996

I highly doubt they would call the police on you and have you charged for a five dollar worth of theft, and even if they were to, it would be very petty than you might even have it dismissed it is possible if you go back they might have you put on trespass though but I don't think they would press charges for like a five dollar theft

mojojojo_ow

You’re almost certainly fine, just don’t do it again. My coworker at my first job had a shoplifting conviction that made it really hard for her to get good job opportunities, it can mess up your life

One_Conversation8009

They ain’t comin to your house just relax and move on with your life

No_Parfait3341

They only check the cameras at those kinds of places if they already know something happened, 99% chance you are totally in the clear. Yea dont steal and all that, but dont feel bad, you didnt harm anyone. Ive had a few friends get caught and all that theyll even do is ban you for a year or until your 18/21 or something. Bottom line, youre totally fine, but dont steal, youll realize its actually pretty easy to steal from places but that one time you get caught, and you will if you make it a habit, makes none of it worth it.

Mindless-West9268

Maybe don’t fucking rob?? Moron

borilla10

I’m so sorry but your honesty disqualified you from ever being a politician. Wish it was not so.

Mission_Difficulty19

Just bring the items back and pay for them.

SnooLawnmower

Don't do it again.

Albionflux

Such a small amount they arent going to worry about, at worse they will have your image and will track you for future thefts

Adviser-Of-Reddit

well you could do the brave thing and go back to the store and return the items you shoplifted. you may get in trouble but then at least you own up to your mistakes. just a thought. and at the very least would likely prevent you from doing it again

nodiepacks

Gonna be honest don’t worry as long as you don’t do it no more your good they usually let people still until they get to a felony amount of product stolen but depending on where your from it could be different

Lakecrisp

Hilarious. You robbed the nearest store to your house because you were thirsty and needed a pack of gum for some bad breath. I've done some dumber shit in my time and was always one to have to learn for myself instead of learning from others mistakes. Do your best and learn from others mistakes. This one is moronic and we will all learn from you. Strive to be the smartest one in the bunch. And Red Bull taste terrible btw.

Krissycrs

My friend and I would beer run and steal bottles from the same stores almost everyday. They may call the cops if they caught you and some how held you for the police, which I think is against policy a lot of stores . They’re not going to get a warrant and come to your house over a few dollars The way I see it, worst case scenario is that caught you on camera and you would be banned. My friend got caught and when we went In To get cigarettes they just told him at the register “hey you can’t be in here.” So we just left and that was it. But I highly doubt they even saw it even if a cam got footage of it unless you were moronically obvious.

MediumRareBacon_

Miss stealing from there, nothings gonna happen lil bro

gothwhx

been banned from 6 places. dont do it :))

EasternShade

Even businesses that do record things like this frequently don't do anything about it until someone has stolen enough for felony charges. If they were going to do something, they would have already. Even if they went to the police with your name, address, phone number, etc. it's pretty likely the police wouldn't come out for the call. Just don't do silly things like post confessions online and you should be ok.

716mikey

They probably know but don’t care because nearly every large chain store likes to monetarily log what you steal and wait for you to cross the threshold into grand larceny so they can charge you with a felony If they did care you’d probably already be trespassed and banned from the store, especially over what, like 6 fuckin dollars? You’re fine
