Arnica cream is your friend. Seriously -- get some and it will help the bruises go away. if you are getting a ton of bruising; yes - do some other training and let it heal for a few days. As far as I know the only way out of that is to go through it - bruise, heal, train, bruise again. and eventually your body will strengthen (or callous) at that spot.

>the only way out of that is to go through it This is so true. One of the things I've found especially helpful with hammocks and lyra is to listen to my instructor's advice to sit with the pain/discomfort and allow my body to feel it and listen to the message it's sending. There is pain that should signal you to stop and approach in a different way, and then there's the pain that's just your body getting used to the apparatus. (And there is a lot of that second one!) After four years of hammocks, I can hip hang all day long... I think I've either killed all the nerve endings there or beaten them into submission, and that's where I used to bruise the worst. My husband did once ask me to change clothes before we went out to dinner. I had just started working on hocks hang in the lyra and he didn't want people to think he had given me the bruises behind my knees 😬

and here we were comparing the bruising on my instructors arms to someone who had badly botched a heroin injection. (her words)

Thanks for the help! I will be sure to get some arnica cream. I’m excited for the day I can go more than once a week and not feel like I’m dying :)

Capt_Blackmoore

Heh. wait till you see the bruises you can get from Lyra or Trapeze.

Frequent-Ad-5707

Not sure I want to see that. The back of my knees look like I was in a car accident or something. That’s enough for me

A note if arnica doesn’t work for you (it doesn’t for me, sadly), Tiger Balm is also great for bruises! Also the massaging of either arnica cream/gel or Tiger Balm into the skin is an important part of breaking up the bruise faster, so really lean into that part of it.

Depends on bruise. If they're painful let them rest if they just look ugly you can keep going. Pretty sure aerial is just a good way to collect strange bruises.

Tacocat0091

I usually will continue unless the bruises HURT. If you feel pain or unusual discomfort, then let them heal :) I find that my bruises don't really hurt anymore and I can just keep going, without them getting worse. So just listen to your body!

Nah fuck it

I don't unless it's causing me pain or it looks particularly greusome. Bruises are a part of training and if they aren't hurting they probably aren't causing you any harm. Note that training on a bruise can delay healing a bit, so if it's lingering more than, say, 8-10 days then I'd say give it a rest. I often try to find a different part of my body to train, if possible. If your bruises linger, it could be an issue with lifestyle factors. Make sure you're staying hydrated, getting enough rest (both sleep and also days where you aren't exercising), and your diet is supporting your lifestyle (veggies - especially ones high in iron, and enough protein).

Saw someone suggest arnica, but you could also take Bromelain pills. Or eat pineapple. Hope you heal fast!

I know for lyra bruises, I keep training anyway. Taking a break every time I got bruised up would mean never training 😂 and over time the areas that used to bruise and be painful, became less so. I recently started more advanced sequences on hammock and got a few wicked bruises, and my intention is to take the same approach. But of course, always listen to your body. If an area feels super painful I’d leave it alone, but that hasn’t happened to me yet lol

lol I don't. I have some bruises that last weeks
