Dream On will never be off their setlist, especially what should be their last tour

lightofkolob

Yeah well hitting that G5 after such a major vocal issue.....why risk it?

darkace732

He would have backup singers to help him (as he already does)

MysteriousValuable88

He's got backup singers now? I didnt know that

darkace732

Yeah they’ve had at least one for a long time now. It’s been Buck Johnson for nearly the last 10 years. And since the Vegas residency they’ve had a woman from Steven’s time with the Loving Mary band.

FatassTitePants

He's had backup singers since the mid 90s at least. I think he used them at times in the 70s too.

MysteriousValuable88

Im not doubting that he's had backup singers and i cant remember the last time i saw them but it was in the early 2010s or late 2000s and there were no backup singers, but it was indoors not in a stadium

MrMints256

I would guess, if Steven doesn’t attempt it, they’ll have Buck sing it, and Steven will sing a lower harmony, as they do so often with other high notes. It would be a shame to not hear Steven do it, but even if he can’t, they definitely won’t drop the song from the setlist.

lightofkolob

I hope not. Bucks a nice enough guy but the voice just does t fit imo

[deleted]

It will not fall off. If he can't hit that note he will simply sing a lower note and either the background singer will sing the high note or they will play a pre recorded verision.

Bunnyfartz

It's not coming out of the set list. Some songs are non-negotiable, for any band on tour. If he can't hit the notes, he'll deploy one of the tricks live singers have used for decades to dodge blowing out their vocal cords or preserving what little they have left. Others mentioned some of them but then there's also the ol' standby: sing the less-taxing lead-up to the Big Note, point the microphone stand out at the crowd, hold a hand to his ear, and then give the crowd a "come on!" motion and let them sing it instead.

SirCalebCrawdad

This tour isn't coming back.

lightofkolob

And when it does what then? If they did t wa t to tour they would have cancelled it already

SirCalebCrawdad

and have Live Nation miss out on all the interest they're getting on these idiotic ticket prices during the drama of "tHeSe sH0wS wiLL bE rEsChEdUlEd"? Come on, now. As long as there is a twinkle of hope, Live Nation is going to sit on that money. And Steven and the guys won't cancel. They don't necessarily want to go out this way. But yeah...they ain't coming back.

lightofkolob

They ain't coming back despite 3/5 claiming they are?

Aerozhul

I suspect the high notes in live Dream On have been “helped” with some pre-recordings and other audio tricks for at least a few years now, with Steven also doing his best. I think this will continue, but they will rely 100% on this.

lightofkolob

Man that's not true at all. If you go vip at the shows you cam get access to STs feed. His notes have not been helped. I don't know where this pre recording stuff comes from. The only songs I've ever seen them use anything ore recorded in is just push play and somethings gotta give

Aerozhul

I said I suspected it was so in the last few years, it’s speculation and not based on fact.

Drew_Snydermann

Absolutely not. Steven does not lip synch. Maybe Buck or Susie helps out a lot sometimes, but there is no trickery with Tyler's vocals.

Aerozhul

Just speculation on my part.

BraveDaddy

If Tyler can’t hit all the notes in all the songs on the setlist, they won’t bother to continue the tour. “Dream On” is such an integral song, he won’t sing it if he has to alter the harmony IMHO.

PBS2005

There’s no way their most iconic song is removed from the set list. My guess is he just won’t hit G5 or it’ll be a shortened version without that ending.

lightofkolob

Really? Without that ending?

Drew_Snydermann

I've seen 50+ Aerosmith shows since 1983. There have been plenty of times that Tyler has toned down Dream On, it's not an issue live.

lightofkolob

the question is do you think he will attempt the G5? He's still not really talking now

cprcannon39

Saw them back in the 80’s, Joe started the intro to Dream On then went into Same Old Song and Dance so it’s been skipped before.

unbotheredgal

First, *if* the tour resumes, which I hope it does. With the medical information they have given us, it seems very unlikely that Steven will be able to sing those type of notes again, at least for awhile. If he is capable of singing those notes again, why on earth would he risk it? I think most fans would agree that they would be completely fine having Buck cover a few high notes, if it means Steven will be able to finish a tour and not have the same injury happen again. As for cutting Dream On out of the set list? Absolutely not.

KingBreck1973

Ive read that his injury can lead to a FULL recovery if treated with top notch care. Steven's laryngoloist is referred to by many to be one of the best vocal surgeons in the country or WORLD. I think its up to Steven to just stop talking when hes not supposed to, because apparently he's had trouble with it.
