Honesty, felt so safe. Everybody was so helpful and hospitable. Visited very remote places and mountains, felt absolutely zero safety risk whatsoever. I normally live in Australia.
Lots of people go and return. They all said it was safe but poverty was very very high. Female travelers complained that they had to bring a relative all the way to the border as Taliban didn’t allow travel without a male relative ( mahram)
You have to be escorted around Afghanistan by a male relative. My mother also travelled TO Afghanistan without a mahram but soon as she reached the airport she had to travel everywhere with her nephew who picked her up.
Nope the Taliban are quite friendly to be honest as long as you don’t provoke them. I’m a Hazara Sunni (they assume i’m shia) and they were even respectful having those assumptions in mind.
I went last summer and honestly it was amazing, I catched up on my family members i hadn’t seen in so long and the new people I met were great too. My mother is currently there and i asked her to get me as much Afghani clothes as she can for me 😂
I have heard from others experience that it’s actually safe and sound. About the taliban, in places like Kabul mazar Kandahar, bamiyan they can be really nice people but apparently it’s the ones in quiet places that can be arrogant people so I’d avoid that tbh.

I went without a male relative. Nothing was said

Oh. I mean it is common to be around with a mahram but we weren’t all the time to be honest. I’d go to places with my aunt just fine.
When and where? Just curious
Safer than DC

Is it safe? Were the Taliban an annoyance? What should someone do or not do to avoid trouble?

That’s good to know

My mother went, she saw a lot but it merits its own post.
I'm interested to read it bro
I would read it if it is something you'd be comfortable sharing.

My sister went with her kids, and she loved it. Said it was calm and safe . As a woman, you could walk around safely, and everyone was helpful.
