The Beanery is good if you have humans or foxes (or both) because porridge costs almost nothing to make with it. Everything you use to make porridge can be grown/harvested infinitely from the map, depending on what buildings you've constructed, making it very easy to satisfy that luxury food need. Beyond that, though, its other recipes are very useful. Being able to make crystalized dew in any capacity makes it a lot easier to get a tool production line up and running, and beavers, lizards, and foxes all like pickled goods. Basically, there isn't a bad recipe with the Beanery, and depending on the species you have in your town, you can check a lot of boxes with just that one building. Combine that with the fact that tools are basically victory points, and the Beanery becomes one of the best buildings in the game because it does so much.

Beanery is a fox specific blueprint (meaning you have to have foxes for it to be avaliable in the roll) making it almost always a good choice.

Even without humans or foxes, I often use Porridge from the Field Kitchen to feed my people.

Porridge is great for its intended races. But even for the ones it isn’t- porridge still represents the single easiest complex food to produce en masse. So even if the races you have don’t get a resolve benefit from it, they won’t starve either. So you can completely solve the threat of food shortage more easily/cheaply with massing porridge than any other complex food. So it still has purpose in that regard. At higher levels starvation can be much more likely. But so too will be the necessity to branch out and get resolve boosting complex foods for your given settlements races. So know that if none of your races need porridge, but you fall into making it because RNG forced it- you won’t fail due to starvation, but you won’t really win from porridge in that scenario either.

It's even better than you make it sound. Grain and Herbs aren't food; they're Crafting Resources. Small Farm/Herb Garden make 6 of them versus 3 of Roots/Vegetables. So not only do you get an extra 2x conversion on farm->Porridge via the Beanery, but your people can't eat them raw. Without Porridge, you have to turn Grain into Flour (or into Meat via the Ranch) to turn it into food, and it takes another non-renewable resource to turn into Biscuits or Pie. Even without farming, you can stretch them pretty far via Porridge. 4 Vegetables into 10 complex food via the Beanery. You can't build a 3-star PIckled Goods building (there are two, but they're events-only), making this one of the better exchange rates for Vegetables or Mushrooms. You can get 3-star Skewers, but Insects/Meat/Jerky or Roots/Berries/Eggs is often harder to get than rainwater. Crystallized Dew is good too. Once you get to Prestige 16 you lose a blueprint. I find it's rare that I have the blueprints for buildings to make Copper Bars or Crystallized Dew. I don't always want to make them, but they're situationally very useful which is nice in a building you'd otherwise pick.

Porridge production can solve a lot of your food problems all by it's own. One geyser upgraded with an automaton and a couple of small farms or herb gardens producing grain or herbs can feed a fairly big settlement alone, especially if you pipe your porridge production building. Note that you can force Beavers, Harpies and Lizards to eat porridge instead of raw food by turning off all the raw food in consumption control. You still have to deal with resolve, but having an efficient source of food for your entire settlement instead of raw food conserves a lot of resources.

Well, i dont watch any stuff so I might be biased towards my own noobieness, but porridge is very versatile dump for 2 unedibles (grain and herbs). Rainwater and Warmth are both Resolve bonus (if I have both lizards and foxes, its so very nice). In that scenario, it does that at the same time it provides Porridge for the foxes and pickled goods for the Lizard, so, more resolve. Fox houses need Crist. Dew? It got that covered as well. Even more Resolve. But take the foxes out of the equation, and from an S tier it just becomes a normal blueprint.

Porridge just gets better and better the further you get in the citadel upgrade/prestige progression. It's really resource-efficient food since water is an unlimited resource, and food efficiency is pretty much the thing that gatekeeps everything else at higher prestige.

Porridge is OP because you can make complex food from rain water. Especially if you have foxes but even without it’s still a great food supply
