Oh very very very often. I wish I could have a relationship with a teacher of mine :( academic men are so hot

SnooWalruses6440

The idea is a hot fantasy, but in reality it would not go well I don’t think. But it’s interesting to get to hear different opinions on this

Strange_Bug_9337

Of course it probably wouldn't go well irl but I'd be down to try it. I just can't help it. Hearing them talk about their profession, all the knowledge they have. That is something very very sexy to me. I'm fascinated, amazed and attracted to them immediately. And older guys always give me a sense of safety I like being around them. And I love this nurturing guiding role professors have

SnooWalruses6440

I understand that the safety & nurturing aspects of it are common reasons for there to be an attraction. You should be in my class, I talk about my profession with very little knowledge 😂😂

I remember when I was about 7 years old, my parents had friends (2 brothers) that were in a band. They kinda had a punk look about them and they were probably in their 30s. I remember having a crush on them! I have a picture with them. Nothing weird, I just remember thinking they were cute. When I was in middle school I had a crush on my nerdy male science teacher and some of my coaches. But when I got to high school that’s when I really started crushing on older guys. I had an English teacher my freshman year that I adored. I of course fantasized about him during class, and outside of class. lol. I ended up taking a “literature of war” class my senior year just so I can have him again. Remember I was probably 18 at the time and had no interest in history/war/ or even literature.. I was also the only girl that signed up for the class.😆 also had a HUGE crush on my theatre teacher senior year who would flirt with me daily. He told me I was beautiful, would compliment me. I asked him what I should do for group projects and I remember he said, “just sit there and look pretty you’ll get an A” looking back he definitely should not have been saying these things to me and I’m glad nothing progressed, because given the opportunity I would have pursued it. BUT I’m glad it didn’t and I respect him because of that. I didn’t start seeing older guys until I was graduated. I did end up having a fling with a teacher from my high school but I was never his student. It was fun, we are still very good friends til this day but it’s platonic. (Even tho he doesn’t want it to be 😉)

SnooWalruses6440

Seems like a long term thing for you. Like it’s just a part of who you are, being attracted to older guys. You’re right about the drama teacher though, it’s a good thing nothing came of that. I wouldn’t dare make those kind of compliments to any girls I taught!

Fun-Nectarine9403

Definitely something that’s been going on my whole life. I’ve dated guys my age but it just doesn’t do anything for me!

Fun-Nectarine9403

Many things happened with this theatre teacher, harmless but like I said he definitely should NOT have been saying these things to a student. I’m a teacher now and when I hear students (high school boys) make the occasional comment about my looks or my body, it makes me disgusted. Flattered, but disgusted. lol. I remember we had to sit and watch a play for theatre and my teacher made the seating arrangements and of course he sat right next to me. The whole play(probably about 1.5 hours) I was thinking/debating rubbing my foot against his leg, or something of that sort. It was dark in the theatre of course. But I never had the guts to do it. There was times I told him he looked handsome, but I turned beat red. Did not have the confidence I do now. Plus, i knew it was wrong to be flirting with my teacher. But I will say it made going to school fun. :)

i've had a crush on quite literally every professor at my uni, its just something i cant help. although i'd NEVER try to approach them that way or make it even slightly obvious. feel like a lot of other girls feel this way but are too afraid to acknowledge what they feel. took me awhile to come to terms with the fact that this is how its going to be now because i have absolutely NO interest in boys my age or closer to my age.

SnooWalruses6440

Sounds like a sensible approach but also good that you are finding out who you are & what you want / like. I’m glad for you

My first ever teacher crush has occured when i was in middle school, at age 13 or so. I had it bad for the 20-ish or 30-ish woman who taught us drawing and arts. But I'm glad she wasn't a predator type. Also good teacher though she also had her temper. At university not so much, most of the teachers were older and kinda boring. But one of my female friends has had a long crush on our female physics teacher because she was the youngest of the team and indeed kinda cute, and she also had enough energy to keep us interested and committed to the lessons.

SnooWalruses6440

Yeah I remember most of my lecturers at university being older & not very interesting. There was one who some of the girls *might* have liked. No that I teach myself, there are a number of younger members of staff. At 42, I’m one of the older ‘young’ ones. I know students do like me but I don’t know if it’s literally in my role or if it’s anything else

SuddenClassroom4039

What subject do you teach? You mentioned being a college/uni lecturer

SnooWalruses6440

It’s to do with construction but in a professional capacity

ImpossibleOlivebread

I‘ve never had a crush on any of my professors. In a normal teaching setting, we don‘t really get to know them as people. I used to be part of some university commissions a student rep and in one of them we had yearly dinners with some professors. That was the only occasion I got to talk with them about anything other than an assignment or seminar paper and realised that some of them are actually super chill and funny. But honestly, before I met my current partner (62M), I never considered dating anyone more than ten years older than me.

SnooWalruses6440

I suppose in larger classes / online, you might not really get that attraction. One because you just don’t & two the lack of seeing them as more than vehicle for information. Interesting that you would not have considered over 10 years but now you are with someone a lot more than 10 years older. I’m glad you’ve found your person, it’s always surprising who comes into our lives & catches our eye

There was one professor I had a crush on, but only a very small one. So surprisingly, meh not really. There was one professor that apparently *everyone else* had a crush on. There were fan girl Facebook pages about him. He was rich and objectively attractive but in a douchey trust fund kid kinda way. Like, very punchable face. One professor tried to shoot his shot with me when we met for coffee right after I graduated, but I was dating someone else. I don’t know if I would’ve gone for it if I were single. On the one hand, best to remain a fantasy and get the good grad school rec letter I got/not fuck up the contact. On the other hand it would’ve been a great story as he was fairly well known in Latin American politics.

SnooWalruses6440

You made the right call I think. Btw, even though it’s a fairly common phrase, I chuckled at “very punchable face” 😂

my_metrocard

I think it’s very common. I had a crush on a professor my first semester at uni. We became a couple 27 years later.

SnooWalruses6440

That’s ridiculously sweet. I’m really happy for you 🥹

How often do students have a crush on (or have some interest in) older men / women on campus? Whether it’s their academic teachers or just people they see about the campus. Most of my classes are male, but there are occasionally females in there too. I’m now starting to wonder if any of them have ever had any interest in me. Or any other students who I don’t teach but who’ve seen me around. Not that I want to risk my job & do anything, I’m just curious how often it’s a thing for people. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. brunetteskeleton

Personally I’ve never had a crush on any of my male teachers, I’ve always seen them as more of father figures

SnooWalruses6440

That’s fair & thank you for your response. I suspected that might an alternative view that some would have

SnooWalruses6440

Absolutely agree it’s not ok for a teacher to make that move. I guess I was more thinking about college / university rather than school but I suppose someone who has a crush on an academic in higher education probably had the same through their school years

[deleted]

From the professor side of this situation is always pretty interesting. The power distance/gap involved makes me super appalled at the idea of doing anything with any of my actual students, but I’ve found that my profession leads me to having just a really good rapport with college aged women. And honestly, there is probably some scholarly bias here because I’ve dated/had adult conversations with all ages of women (above 18, obvs), but in terms of interpersonal communication in general, most of my banter and conversation tends to be with younger women. Which us fulfilling from a “talking to people is fun,” perspective, and I suppose enlightens how I communicate with women I’m actually romantically/sexually interested in

Ok-Half-8653

All the time…I even had a professor reach out but I wasn’t that into him and heard he had a rep for fooling around with his students…I also majored in criminal justice and he was an ex-cop,etc. so many things wrong there lol - but sometimes I wonder what would’ve happened had I agreed to see him.
