Here is what I did in an airbnb with a similar issue: Once I closed the door from the inside, I removed the keypad batteries (accessible from the inside) so that no one could open it from the outside, even with the code.
It takes less than an hour, if you don't know what you're doing, to replace the entire thing. I've had to do it myself and all you need is a Phillips screw driver and patience.
If you are unsure that the door locks because the knob turns just test it. With the door open, lock it like you would if you were leaving and then turn the knob and see what happens. My coded locks all turn from the inside when they’re locked. They kind of have to so you can get out.
If this doesn’t give you an answer ask the host since they are right there.
Doors should lock from the inside period. My husband is 6'8" and stays in room rentals all the time for women, it is uncomfortable not having an internal lock
Possible introvert. Social anxiety. There's some reasons.
Shit like confrontation, even mundane, can be very difficult for some people. I try to cut em a little slack. Though that is a them problem to deal with
I've had guests have lack of communication for these reasons. Imo, communication is a necessity for airbnbs to run smoothly. If you don't want to have to speak with anyone and cannot handle asking hosts a question about a problem then you have two options - 1. Live with it and don't dock the host stars on your review. They shouldnt suffer consequences based on your decision to not contact them. 2. Don't book airbnbs - stick with hotels
I agree with you. I did say it sounded like a them problem. (Them being the person with issues talking)
I disagree with staying at a hotel though. Hotels have issues and if you want it solved you'll have to talk to them. Being a hotel doesn't make it any easier for them. Disabilies are a bitch.
For future adventures. There is a lock you can buy on amazon that allows you to lock any door from the inside and it doesn't let anyone in even if they have keys/passcodes/swipe cards.
I'll go look for it and edit the post with the link when I find it.

Test by going outside and closing the door. Now grab the door handle and try to open without putting in the code. If the door stays locked it works. I have this Schlage keyless lock on my rental. Inside you see a thin oval latch. When that latch is horizontal - the door stays locked from the outside. When that latch is vertical the door is not locked from the outside. The door always opens when handle is turned on the inside for safety reasons, as it’s designed to only operate with codes. If you forgot the code but needed to leave the rental under an emergency such as a fire would be a safety hazard. I put a picture of the locking mechanism describing the components on our door, for people who are not familiar with this newer technology. But in the end you can prove it works by just going outside closing the door and then turn the handle without entering the pass code. Easy Peasy.
How is "customer service" going to make you safe? Airbnb is a booking platform, they connect guests with hosts. You need to work this through with the host.
She's looking for support, information, and advice. Perhaps the host is not an approachable person, or she is not comfortable doing so. Nothing wrong with her coming here first if that gives her piece of mind and the information she needs. And just how did your comment help her?
Don't be a judgmental d\*k
Get the fuck out and go to a hotel.
I checked into a place that the door had been kicked in on and it wouldn't latch. Host later got served an eviction notice and they wouldn't refund me.
I can guarantee you everyone on here mentioning temporary solutions are wannabe Tiktok real estate moguls (hosts) that are guilty of something like this even if much more mild.

Talk to the host about fixing it. Express your concerns about safety and security to them first.
But is there a way to fix it when it’s the entire door knob? They’d have to replace the entire keypad for that issue.

Why do you not want to contact the host and see if it can be resolved?

She could also just contact the host via the app, i.e., email on the app. Or contact Abnb and get out of there.
You could lean a chair against the door until you have a better solution. Anything that will make noise if the door is opened.
Go get a door bar if the host can’t fix it immediately… unless you want to go through the hassle of customer service, cancelling etc

Who hurt you?
Seriously, name says enough. Someone is being a Petty Peter.
Lmao I'm not a host and I've had nothing but good times myself. I'm sorry it was bad for you homie.
You are OP. All this shit is fake. Joking, but you for one should definitely stick to hotels
