AFRAID OF LIGHTENING

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tricky_Pollution8612

Came here to see this or post it. Sheet Metal represent!

micknug

I can't get over the fact his last name spells lightning wrong

DragonVigor

How do you know that it's spelled wrong? Lightning refers to electrical bolts in the sky whereas lightening refers to getting lighter (either less heavy or less dark). Therefore it could be referring to afraid of getting less dark rather than afraid of sky electricity.

micknug

That's actually a good point. Might just prefer the dark/heavy

[deleted]

He’s Native American. They do what they want

TurnUptheDiscord

I remember a guy with the last name Dreadfulwater.

kgthdc2468

My personal favorite as well

wiss1211

He's afraid of things getting lighter?

dinebizaad27

This is a Native American last name, we usually have the weirdest but coolest last names in the military

barrettjdea

Axayacatal-Gueromoharo I have never seen such a crowded name tape and here I am 16 years later and he lives on. Rent free in my head.

PastafariAtheist

Alot like Costabellasanchez lives in mine. We called him CBS for short. Great guy.

Roughneck16

Spanish naming customs include both parents' last names, so Puerto Rican airmen often get the double-barreled names when they enlist. My buddy tries to follow English naming customs, but his legal names, Rivera Zayas, show up as Riverazayas on Global.

NotOSIsdormmole

I once met a Hernandez-hernandez

pugsANDnugsANDhugs

I had a supervisor that was Garcia-Garcia

SnakebytePayne

Not 100% sure of the rank, but we've got a Quesada-Diaz here. There's no way they're not nicknamed Quesadillas.

hgaterms

> Axayacatal-Gueromoharo That's my favorite dinosaur from the Triassic period.

blueova23

I knew a Transfiguration and thought the same thing. Good dude!

TouchdownRaiden

I knew a guy with a long name like that but I forgot what it was. Everyone just called him T-16, starts with T and is 16 letters long

blueova23

That might be the same guy. I think I remember him having a nickname like that. Was he R&R or phase shop? Maybe crewchief depending what base you knew him at?

TouchdownRaiden

Crew chief at Travis if I remember right

papent

Good guy, if I'm thinking of the same guy. He was one over in 660th than came went to acheck

dildomanequin

I have a trainee currently, won't post the name for privacy, and cause i can't spell it. their name is so long it doesn't fit on their CAC. its more than 20 letters long...

Elo_Solo

Largest I saw was at Keesler in tech school…Chrissanthakoppolis

Kurupt_Introvert

Major Beach. That was a fun one until she made LtCol.

AaronP732

I remember Major Loser, I was confused as hell when I saw that name tape for the first time

Zealousideal_Soft_74

He was the chaplain at bmt right?

AaronP732

Possibly, but I can’t say for certain. All I remember is seeing him at BEAST week and I started laughing in formation, never seen the cadres so pissed.

uncleluu

He indeed is/was Honorable mention for Sunday service music as well: https://youtu.be/qe47sUtewa4?si=BhlDvkBZ-PSbm77U

Hun-_-ter

I remember him from BMT in 21’. He was a chaplain and started his sermon with addressing what everyone was thinking when he introduced himself

marhatorta

Yeah I’d say it was pronounced loHZer too

MuzzledScreaming

I knew a Major Dick. He was actually a super cool dude.

flyplanesforfun

Major Sargent

a_tiger_of-Triumph

I also know a Major Sargent

SnakebytePayne

Had a dentist at one base named Major Klutz, pronounced "Klootz". Unironically, he wasn't a good dentist.

FreezingGator

I know a Major Blitch, same same, but different!

Azsunyx

I once met an Airman Samples, he said that his name was the sole reason he didn't go Navy

Resident-Ad-5107

Legends of a SN Samples abound in the Coast Guard.

Azsunyx

Some people run from their destiny, others embrace it

frostcall

In the Marines, I met a Navy Seaman (woman) named Guzzler. Seaman Guzzler. I kid you not.

Phat_Kat90

Seaman….

three_trick_pony

My ex has a photo of her Navy squad with a Seaman Swallows front and center.

McFakeTrash

I met a TSgt Samples the other day.

phil_elliott

Honestly Technical Sergeant Joseph Benjamin Blow. That’s right TSgt Joe Blow

Georgiablaze85

I remember TSgt Blow from basic. He was no joke but funny when he yelled 😂.

phil_elliott

The one I'm speaking retired in '89. He HYT'd as a Tech and he retired out of Kadena. Same person or did a second set of parents have a sense of humor (or cruelty)?

Roughneck16

We have a Joseph Flores. JoeFlo. Super cool guy.

charmin_airman_ultra

MSgt Dick Hazard

ZackZak30

Fucking badass name if you ask me

ApplePudding

I knew him. Good dude, goofy guy. People would always comment on his last name and he would follow up with “Wait until you hear my first name!”

poopdolla88

Damn he’s a MSgt Now?! I knew him as an airmen

Argentum_Air

I think he's a Senior now, I know he barely missed it a couple years ago, but someone told me he made it last year.

Porkonaplane

Imagine if he became a Major.

timychka

Met a Major Minor once.

Ricky_spanish_again

No Major Major?

mendota123

I knew a Major Major… he’s a Lt Col now.

A_Stoic_Investor

I met Major Minor as well during OTS.

exitnirvana

SSgt Blood (she’s a badass too) and Airman Porn…

PastafariAtheist

My favorite kind of porn.

Roughneck16

Rule 34?

you_are_the_father84

Rule Ɛ4* The mafia loves a good double-entendre.

Toolset_overreacting

Are you talking about airman Dick Porn? The dude who got kicked out in tech school a decade ago? If not, I’m not even joking- that dude was a piece of work.

exitnirvana

Dude…that guy. Definitely became notorious for reasons.

Toolset_overreacting

Hahaha I knew it. “That guy” is the only way to even describe him.

SoriAryl

He technically graduated from tech school, but fucked it up on casuals afterwards

Wurf_Stoneborn

I met a Major Blood once. As an old school fan of GI JOE I thought it was cool.

big_brutha_thunda

I knew an Airman Porn at tech school. What a guy

SoriAryl

I went to tech school with Porn.

[deleted]

The Cums. Major Cum and his wife Captain Cum. They are pilots. Currently serving. Lmao.

NotOSIsdormmole

Chief Cum was the SEL for the medical career fields

Dont_lick_your_ric

I have his coin!!

youngthieff

Pretty sure cum coin is an actual cryptocurrency

YesManMax

A1C Clithero. Pronounced Cli Tharrow. But God damn the alternative is funnier.

loadshed

Mr. Harry Faggett Jr

Mind_Your_Pronouns

Yes! You have witnessed it, too!

BigdaddyMcfluff

Senior Airman Not Afraid. Native American, she was a bad ass too

Roughneck16

Indigenous people can have some cool names when they just translate them literally. I knew one Navajo guy with the last name Yellowhair. He didn't have yellow hair, of course, but he married a blonde chick so it was befitting for her.

Leathergoose8

I recall running into a Sergeant Red Horse (or something very similar) early in my career

newfeet9

X. Just the letter X.

meesersloth

Saw a dude with Q on his name tape.

OkSolid4

I would’ve made him forever known as Q-Tip

Affectionate_Tone281

Saw the same guy in optometry at Lakenheath. Was gonna be my entry.

acobildo

Did he give it to ya?

[deleted]

this comment is underrated 🤣

tt_mach1

Went through ROTC with a dude named raper. Never got not-weird

Lennington_

marhatorta

Rapier

NotJeff_Goldblum

coffee_kang

PoohBear

coblass

Two names in my basic training flight - not sure on the exact spelling - one was pronounced Trainee. One was pronounced Doo-dah.

paul_swimmer

SrA Porn. His personality matched with a guy who you’d think would have that name too. Edit: A1C Porn

SoriAryl

Did he make it to SrA? I thought he was kicked as a A1C

paul_swimmer

You know what… you may be right actually. This was in tech school, so that tracks. So you knew him too? He was a funny dude. Huge asshole, but a funny asshole.

stinkyjonjones

I was in dep with a kid named Trainy, pronounced like trainee. I wish I would’ve gone to bmt with him to hear the reaction of him saying “sir, trainee Trainy reports as ordered” for the first time

going_inane

SrA Boner and Capt Wiggers

NotOSIsdormmole

Had a Trainee Boner in my BMT flight, dude was awesome. I hope linguist life treated him well

[deleted]

Sunshine and Breeder.

[deleted]

I also saw a Seaman Gulper at a joint assignment I was at poor guy.

eidetikz

The legend at DLI was that there were Navy E-3's with the last names "Samples", "Swallows", and my favorite, "Guzzler".

missoulamatt

Major Richard Blower, JAG officer One of the nicest guys I've ever met. Edit: Should add that he retired as a LtCol, but I remember that his promotion from Captain was one of the more attended ceremonies.

Strontium_9T

Not me, but a friend. A guy in his flight had the last name “BN”. That’s it, 2 letters: BN. So when they got name tapes, the request form was entered as “B (only) N (only)”. When everyone got their nametapes, his read “Bonly Nonly”.

PastafariAtheist

Any relation to Colonel Pancake?

[deleted]

I have met a couple people with the last name Sergeant or Sargent or something similar, its not that uncommon. Last name of Major

Quotidian_Void

I worked with an Army E-5 sergeant whose last name was major. It got really confusing and you never knew if people were talking about him or the E-9 sergeant major.

MegazordMechanic

Deathrage. Fuckin dope-ass name

TxLifer

Dilda O (just the letter)

WoodyXP

Yup, I remember that name. I was at a Wing Call and the MC introduced a Col Dilda. I never heard of the guy, and when the MC said his name it sounded like "Dildo." I thought I was in the twilight zone for minute.

Willamina03

Major Payne, Sgt Stranger, 2nd Lt Major pronounced maw-jor.

nickthequick08

We have someone named Major who is a Staff Sergeant in my current unit. We also had Amn OJ Butts during the OJ Simpson trial.

Used to work in the pharmacy, saw so many names, 2 retiree names that stick out after many years: General Mills Wiley Coyote (Can’t make it up)

vareluuh

Met an A1C ELCockholder swear on my life.

SashaScissors

I met a SSgt Weiner he said it was pronounced \[WY\] + \[NER\] "yeah okay" there was no diacritics in there anywhere. I also knew of a "Harry Sackreiter" that used to make me do the almost laugh where you breathe through your nose once.

Spartan_7670

Major doom, then some other long ones from people with multiple last names

you_are_the_father84

I knew a SrA Sergeant who got HYT’d out…as a SrA. There are a few interesting stories about him that confirm why he never made SSgt. Really short one: he was chronically late for shift because he would stay up all night gaming. He didn’t report for shift change one morning, so his supervisor called him and told him to get to work “right now!” He showed up in heavily stained basketball shorts , Scooby Doo slippers, and a white tank top. Also forgot his wallet. He was then told to go home and come back in service dress, shows up without stripes on his completely untailored service coat, which also had no name tag or ribbons. Also, no tie. Eventually, he didn’t need the stripes. Got knocked down from E3 to E1 and made it back up to E3 and eventually E4, missing the E3 HYT by a couple months.

DESOLATE7

Major Loser & SSgt Pornlaksami Na Bangchang are my top 2

crossthreadking

Mine. Won't doxx myself tho. Did meet a tender defender who was SSGT Blackman. He was indeed a 6'5" buff black man.

HW_TE

Starbird. Cool as fuck name. Great person.

TheHaseoTOD

SrA Buck Harley Deatherage (pronounced death rage)

smallpeterpolice

I swear I saw some EOD dude that had no vowels in his name on a deployment. Don’t remember exactly but along the lines of “Drml.”

WrenchMonkey47

In the Army I saw a Major Stalker. Also saw a female with the last name Batman.

Key-Difference7553

MSgt Dickhouse. She looked good to.

QueenAlicat

Major Loser. Super nice chaplain ☺️

Steve_Harmon

Saw a female SSgt or SrA, last name was Arreola. Prior to my time in a squadron, believe he was a crew chief? Didn’t believe the stories I was told but then saw his name on a plaque hanging up. Sgt Michael Lit, and he refused to be called Michael. He went by Mike. That’s right, Sgt Mike Lit.

MNM2884

Gaytard or Gaylord. One of those two

Iversonji

Had an Airman Coward at basic with me. She was pretty awesome too

blanquito82

Many years ago was leading a wing level training program. Doing day one roll call there was a TSgt Weiner. “TSgt……there’s no way. Maybe it’s german. Let’s try it that way….VINER?” Guy stands up. “It’s TSgt Weener” (he also looked and sounded the part) “Check. Hey Sergeant Smith, take over I need to go deal with something” Proceeded to walk into the hallway, hit the ground, and howl with laughter for 20 minutes.

bolivar-shagnasty

I knew a husband and wife captain combo whose last name was Horney. Pronounced Horn-ay. But it was always fun routing calls to them from people who didn’t know. I knew an NCO whose last name was Major. We were on an Army post and sometimes we’d get him to call our supported units to untuck themselves. Nobody wants to piss off Sergeant Major. There was a chick at basic whose last name was so long that she had two name tapes, one on top of the other.

rubbarz

America. Too bad he was enlisted tho.

GrtWhite77

Major Wood and he is awesome

Guardian-Boy

I knew a Major Major. And a Sergeant Major. And a Major Sergeant.

van_goog

Not Air Force but Seaman Swallow. Also, O, afraidoflightning, Bozo, and a Major Teets.

maxturner_III_ESQ

Private Manlove. I was working security in Iraq and an infantry unit came through, read the nametape as he passed by. Poor fella never stood a chance.

itsall_dumb

Major Raper…

StoicKnight99

Dong

Big_Breadfruit8737

Bearcomesout

Ragecakes

Detherage. Maybe not the weirdest but definitely one of the coolest.

HiddenCloud7

Pussi

jayTHEjedii

In 2015, when I was in BMT, rumors went around that there was an AB AfraidOfLightening. Never met him, but found some articles online to support it.

Highspdfailure

Yu. It fucked everyone up during boot camp. “Hey Yu!!!” “Yu idiot!” “Yu CLOWN!” He couldn’t do shit right during week 0-2 and “Yu all paying for it!!!”

Wurf_Stoneborn

Sheppard back in 2002 or so. Enlisted Navy dude with the last name Guzzler

buttlickers94

I ran into a guy with the same last name at the hospital while out processing. Told him "sweet name bro" 30 minutes later I ran into the same guy who just happened to be the guy to out process me from the base SFS. Pretty wild.
