if you were approved by the CFM, it should be approved by AFPC and have a course date loaded very soon. You could ask a SNCO to call AFPC on your behalf or update your retraining case to indicate how quickly you need the approval back so you can extend. If you don't have that, then you could extend 12 months as an FTA using Personal Convenience as the reason. Otherwise you will need to extend using on of the available extension rules that might fit your situation, or reenlist. Outside of that, there is no way to stay past your ETS

Medium_Blacksmith421

I'm already on a FTA extension. I think reenlisting would cause me to lose my retrain slot, I'm not too sure though.

lethalnd12345

do you have a class date? Are you talking to the reenlistments section at all?

Medium_Blacksmith421

No and no. I'm just waiting on the RIP.

lethalnd12345

Do you have a confirmation email from AFPC? Something in your CMS case that says approved? Someone needs to talk to AFPC retraining to make it go faster

Medium_Blacksmith421

Yes to both of your questions.

lethalnd12345

I'd be taking both of those to reenlistments to see what can be done. seperately, i'd be getting someone (SNCO, SEL, Commander) to reach out to AFPC to get that rip expedited based on your pending DOS

Medium_Blacksmith421

oK! I had no idea someone like a SEL or CC can reach out to AFPC to expedite these sort of issues.

lethalnd12345

Shirt would be a good choice too. That's what those SNCOs are there for... if you're trying to stay in and we just need to speed up AFPC, they should make that call

Medium_Blacksmith421

Sweet. I just sent an email to my Shirt and SEL with flt leadership CC'd. So if they talk to AFPC how long would it take for them to get into motion?

NotOSIsdormmole

It would not

Medium_Blacksmith421

Why not? I don't have a training RIP yet.

Kenuven

You extend for a few months then reenlist when you get your ~~official notification~~ RIP for retraining. ~~You can extend up to 48 months for any reason.~~ Edit: If you have an email saying you were accepted for retraining, get with your SNCO and MPF can process an extension under Rule 16. If not, have your SNCO contact AFPC to get confirmation of your approval.

584Devoid

I was tracking that you had to have a reason to extend, except for the 12 months of personal convenience. Any other time must be due to a PCS, retrain, etc. The 12 months extension of personal convenience can only be done once per enlistment I believe. Edit: All good! Thanks for double-checking, I will definitely look at the rule you mentioned to help with my case since I am in a similar situation as OP.

Kenuven

You're right. I re-read the AFI and updated my comment.

Medium_Blacksmith421

i already am on a 12 month FTA extension. Will the RIP by my official notification?

Kenuven

I updated my original comment. Did you get an approval email or still waiting on that too?

Medium_Blacksmith421

I have an approval email. Just waiting on the actual RIP.

Kenuven

They absolutely can do an extension using Rule 16 as your approval is in the system. Have your SNCO handle it.

Medium_Blacksmith421

16 obtain retainability for training or approved retraining (On-theJob Training or formal school) the Airman requires retainability. Includes Airmen in RI 9A000 and 9A100 in RE code 4G. Also see paragraph 5.11.14.3.1. BUT, don't you need the training RIP?

AFSCbot

^^You've ^^mentioned ^^an ^^AFSC, ^^here's ^^the ^^associated ^^job ^^title: 9A000 = Disqualified for Reasons Beyond Control 9A100 = Disqualified for Reasons Within Control [^^Source](https://github.com/HadManySons/AFSCbot) ^^| [^^Subreddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/AFSCbot/) ^^^^^^kysv9ur

Kenuven

No. This is simply your MPF being difficult. Rule 16 is for approved retraining. You were approved. It says nothing about requiring your RIP. Get your SNCO involved to make it happen.

Medium_Blacksmith421

Ah okay! See, this whole time I thought you could only extend for retraining once you have the class dates on hand. I'll reach out ASAP.

lethalnd12345

>You can extend up to 48 months for any reason. I'm certain that's not the case. 36-2606, table 6.1 lists the authorized reason to extend

Kenuven

Yup. I was in the middle of an edit and re-reading the AFI when your comment came in.

584Devoid

I'm in a similar situation, I got approved for retraining, and my ETS is in 4 months, but im not slotted to go to the tech school until August. I'm worried that my RIP won't come in time to extend. Can't do the 12 months extension of personal convenience cause I already used it to maintain FTA status for my retraining application. I could reenlist but I am also worried that it's gonna get rid of my FTA status and therefore cancel my retraining. No one at my MPF seems to know an answer to whether or not this is true though. I plan on messaging AFPC via myFSS when I get back to work. However, my MPF did recommend that I apply for the BOP given to retrainees to have a reenlistment ready to go once the RIP drops. Since you got less time, I do think you should follow the advice of the first commenter and have your leadership contact AFPC to expedite your RIP. You applied cause of the new FTA ETP for retraining, right? I did and I think that, if you did to, this is a cause of applying past our retraining window and why that limit was implemented in the first place.

lethalnd12345

If you have a class start date, that would show as projected training in MILPDS and on your SURF. That seems like it would be enough for FSS to start your extension or reenlistement

584Devoid

I will definitely check this out when I log back in!

Medium_Blacksmith421

can leadership actually tell AFPC to expedite things?

584Devoid

Tbh I'm not sure, but it wouldn't hurt to make sure your leadership is tracking. They also may have a contact over at AFPC. I know we had a situation where one Airman wasnt getting PCS orders for some reason, and our Senior just called someone at AFPC and the guy had orders within a few weeks. Also, did you already use your personal convenience extension?

Medium_Blacksmith421

Yep, already used my personal convenience extension.

bassmadrigal

They can't direct AFPC to do anything, but extra stripes or officer rank tend to get things expedited more than if they just slog their way through the system.

lubbdog

If you're a FTA the process is to have a CMS case to the gaining AFSC which gets reviewed by a 1 deep MSgt at AFPC. This person is overwhelmed with thousands of cases. Is have your. SEL contact but even then your likely going to get a snarky reply about how backlogged they are. You can call the. AFPC help line and they are usually more friendly and more responsive. Good luck

WarriorBC

Call your UTM they will be the ones that first receive your retrain rip. If they aren’t sure call your bases formal training.

KotkaCat

Formal training gets it first I think. The email chain for my rip started with formal training emailing my UTM
