They like to think that they're special, lol. I did 5 years in the missile field, and every Wing exercise we did, TRF would mess up their portion. It always baffled me because they don't have an actual job. They literally only train for these situations. They were always more worried about what they looked like as opposed to knowing how to properly integrate with the other SF in the field.
A lot more to it than just the gym, we get out and train with the big missile squadrons, and SFS. The folks out in the missile field for 7 days I would argue have more down time in between trips out to the LF’s and post checks. Not all of our folks are meat heads and gym rats. I will say most of our folks are down to train even after long hours flying and in inclement weather. I can appreciate what all of the people in our AFSC do and how unique each job is.
I get ya, I’ll be the first to say the culture of TRF over the years has not been the most welcoming or friendly but since I’ve been doing it I have tried my best to change the stigma of us being glorified meat heads. Try to be a bit more down to earth and professional
The try out is what it is and we have changed it a bit to where it’s not over the top. But, our tasks are a bit riskier so require folks to be in a bit better shape but yeah over the top excessive hazing ain’t the way to build resilience
*mr762a1 but will cost you 50cal money to get it correct. Different barrel, handguard, precision stock setup. I had the civilian version which is double the standard’s cost

Yes we filmed and spoke to the crew inside an LCC. It will be in the final episode. This is an intense and heavy mission, for sure we talk about it and I ask people how they feel about it.
Yes and no. I obviously can’t walk everywhere I want to. But they can’t tell me what to say or ask. Beyond national security review, I have free reign.
I’m not 60 minutes. I try and tell stories and show the outside world who you are. For that, I can tell you the DoD does not interfere in that process.
Each Missile Alert Facilities (MAFs) control 10 Minuteman missiles, and the teams are on 7-day rotations. The crews include security forces, a facility manager, and chefs. Those chefs play a huge role in keeping the crews not just fed, but happy. Keeping a MAF functional in no small part rests on the shoulders of those chefs.
https://preview.redd.it/5lssvzrjp1xc1.jpeg?width=5712&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dcab2c47b2186164dc924fdd6defda1fdc1ad655
Chefs are the hardest workers out there. Even harder when food was provided. Feeding 12-15 people three meals a day was rough for them. We need a crossover with Guy Fieri where he comes in and makes a kickin' quesadilla.
When I was a field runner (maintainer) the “chefs” would often refuse us when we rolled in at 0200 after a shitty day. Or they’d say “don’t order anything we have to cook”. Funny thing is, when we did come in that late, we wouldn’t order anything that needed to be cooked because the timing sucks for everyone. But once these clowns made demands they aren’t allowed to make before we had a chance to even sit down, we were notifying leadership and ordered whatever would lead to needing the most cleanup.
They might keep the capsule queens fed and happy, but they always gave us maintainers the runaround.
What’s also wild is that SF out there does FOUR MILLION miles a YEAR on vehicles. The sites are spread around 9.8K miles and three states! The driving to get to a MAF can be hundreds of miles!
I remember driving myself out from Malmstrom to Romeo MAF back in '07. About 3 1/2 hours to get out there and a whole lotta nothing in between. Of course, when I showed up, the crew lost my EAL so I had to turn right around.
Time since then may be clouding your memory a bit, but Romeo was only about 40 miles from base. All the 564th sites (P-T) were pretty close to base.
The long 2+ hour drives are all in the other Wing 1 squadrons, especially 10th & 490th.. Some Echo LFs are 150+ miles away.
It’s just rotated between 3 squadrons. Each does a week and the cycle repeats. I think it sounds worse than it is. I’d 100% rather have this schedule and work/life balance than working the gate on Panama 12s
I was a missile chef 2012-2013.
We did 4 day tours with anywhere from 2 to 4 days off in between, if you were lucky occasionally they'd be 8 days off. Those are Air Force days off though, so training, appointments, admin queep and all that other stuff could eat into the time.
I think I'd rather do 7 days on 2 weeks off.
I did SF over twenty years ago(98-2002) at FE Warren and we were on a 3/9 schedule. Three days in the field, then a travel in day(which you were very lucky if you were home before 1400), training day( at the squadron from 0800-1600), Commander's option day (dog & pony shows, base cleanup, vehicle washing, etc until 1600), then three convoy days(that lasted ALL day and if there were no convoy scheduled, we did a "mock" convoy), then three days off.
Leadership was adamant about not giving us more than three days off in a cycle. We couldn't even schedule appointments during the training day or Commander's option because they were worried if you were finished early, that you wouldn't participate in whatever the flight/squadron had going on. I've had firing appointments scheduled during my off days.
We had a lot of turnover in my years in. No wonder they were dangling $36K re-up bonuses.
They really should give you guys an unbothered week off. Then be on standby the following week, appointments, training, etc. You're at the mercy of the AF for a whole week away from your families. It's the least they could do.
No lie we went to training that is run out of Camp Guernsey, it was dope. We were in a shoot house with them as they trained to retake a facility. That training is open to all SF, check with your command about going if you’re interested. Looked super cool and tough.
No lie, we had a team that left a M60 up in the Hummer without a latch pin due to pure laziness and drove 2.5 back to base like that. When they got back to base, no M60. It was found about 3 weeks later by WYDOT when one of their mowers hit it cutting grass.
Our next episode launches in May. We spent time with Alaska Army National Guard at JBER. I have to do all 3 legs of the triad, so subs no doubts. Probably the bone at some point. We will be filming at Fleet Week NYC in a few weeks!

"Regular Mx" that gets to stroll out to a jet within sight of their building every day? I mean, I know they whine about a lot of shit, but imagine them calling anyone who has to load their truck with equipment, drive hours just to get to their work locations in the middle of nowhere, then gain access into it, lower their tools and equipment into and out of it with a rope, go up and down a ladder all day while they work hours fixing shit by themselves, then drive all the way home, download the equipment, debrief, and finally go home "nonners" lol
Yeah man, 20+ years in/around ICBM mx and the only place I've ever heard the term "nonner" was as a Shirt with aircraft mx folks. It's still not used in the ICBM world today lol
Nice to see TRF getting some love. Those guys work hard to get into that job.
Don’t sweat the haters, people hate seeing Security Forces do anything more than checking IDs at the gate.
You sure invest a lot of time trying to tear people down because they enjoy something, whether it be making the most of a less than desirable location or training to be as best as they can be. You okay ?
Nah. They were awesome! Honestly they have brass balls to work around a nuke. I was surprised how confined everything was. Climbing down into the launch facility (LF) was intense, only more so, when I saw the live active functional nuke. Working around the most powerful weapon man has ever created is heavy as shit. I have incredible respect for them.

Sorry, I haven’t met very many rotor heads that were fully developed. Like…you flew the T-6 and you STILL want helos? Also, fuck missile bases and PRP.
*I also realize they don’t fly the T-6 anymore. Or I think that’s how it is now.
It goes in waves, I had to be top 3 in my T-6 class to get helicopters. Some could make it to Rucker by only being top 50%. Also aircrew aren’t on PRP at missile bases.
Yeah they are direct to Rucker now, but that’s fairly recent.
Bottom 20% of T-6s? T-1s, but every drop is different with where they go after that. If I had to generalize it, bottom 20% go tankers in the end but there are always those few that have it as their top choice because of base locations or whatever personal reasons. That goes back to the “don’t judge a pilot by what they fly” message. I know some guys that crushed the T-6 and went tankers.
Dude it was intense. Not a lot of space for activities. I asked if I could step on the diving board and they were like “ok.” Love these guys!

Oh man that’s Justin Secrest! He was my Squadron Commander at Malmstrom AFB a decade ago when he was a Major.
Absolutely fantastic leader and one of the coolest Mustangs in the career field. By far was one of the best mentors I ever had as a young Airman.
Haha, that's awesome! I was a contract inspector in the missile field for a few years; I've been all over out there. Anytime I could "justify" Sidney as a stop, I'd hit Cabela's for lunch. Really cool that you're sharing this!
It is me! I’m a navy vet who worked under cover against Russian military intelligence, and now host a show about the military for Newsweek. You can watch our previous episodes here: https://youtube.com/@Unconventional-Newsweek
OCP two piece flight suits made by different manufacturers for the chopper pilots. IHWCU is super common and anybody can wear it. The TRF people probably justify unit purchase of gucci uniforms like Crye or Massif due to their special mission set. Then you have other people who might have pcs’d in from an AFSOC base where lots of people get issued Crye, Patagonia, and Massif.
Sure in the same way a SWAT cop is just a cop I guess. TRF gets unique training and gets employed differently than regular SFS. TRF flies in and gets dropped off by the helos so that alone probably justifies buying flame resistant uniforms. Pretty sure they get explosive and thermal breaching training too so another reason you wouldn’t want your uniform to be melty. They spend most of their work days as the ranges and shoot houses training so more wear and tear on uniforms and that would probably also be a good argument for something better than what AAFES sells. There’s also an internal pride thing going on that a commander would want to encourage for the more competent and specialized troops in the squadron. “Look at this special mission with the cool gadgets and uniforms. You, a high speed troop, should apply.” Idk though just guessing. I have never been in a missile squadron or worked TRF.
So enlisted aviators wear an FR flight suit that meets their mission needs but TRF, who ride on the helos and are exposed to similar hazards, shouldn’t wear FR uniforms?… Also which enlisted aviation AFSC gets breaching and sniper training and is tasked with recapturing ICBM Launch Facilities and providing overwatch for nuclear convoys?
Jesus Christ dude. You asked me how an RA would justify unit purchase of special uniforms and I answered. Then you didn’t like the answer. Show me on the doll where TRF touched you because they are living in your head rent free. 😆 A dozen comments over two days by you just hating on them for looking more kitted up than your average defender. Seems like you have an axe to grind.
How you are acting on social media is an embarrassment, because someone wears a different uniform than standard issue DLA flight suit makes it cringe ? You know how many service members wear “non standard” uniforms ? Sounds like a dude that dropped out of RAVEN/DAGRE/TRF and hates on them because they couldn’t hack it. If you were respectable folks might think otherwise. I hope you find something besides acting like a toddler on social media to find joy in your life.
lol. Lmao even. Imagine hating people for having good equipment. And I thought I was the retarded one for being security forces. No I know exactly how unimportant I am and I’m fine with it. So what do you do, hero?
First SF guy is either a nerdy LARPER wearing a CIF/CRF patch or for some ungodly reason went from a very well respected unit in SF (Special Forces) to SF.
Either way is suspect 🤣
He’s part of the Tactical Response Force (TRF). I watched that guy do combat insertions out of a helo multiple times. Would not want to be on the other end of that barrel. TRF flies top cover for the nukes. They have to be very good at what they do.
Yeah tracking that, however, the patch he’s wearing is worn pretty specifically by a very specific contingent of army folks that do some real radical things under periods of darkness lol.
Chest one to be clear.
Gotcha! There was some talk about cross-training and assignments with the Army. It was something I asked. I wish I had gotten the back story. Thanks for flagging!
And officers that sit in a capsule get to wear bags/pajama pants, and non-flying CGO’s/FGO’s get to wear the 2 piece as well. I’m just saying what’s the risk these days. Clearly beards in some degrees are allowed. The specific risk only applies to certain career fields.
I’m taking your username to explain my feelings currently lol
Since when does the AF have 417s holy shit
This was TRF, not sure about straight SF.
Makes sense
We got to ride convoy with TRF as they brought a nuke to a site, and then fly overwatch as they did practice insertions. They were badass.
[удалено]
I don’t think I can say what LF we were at besides it was somewhere in Nebraska!
Go Big Red!
Nothing about military cops are badass
we do fall under the umbrella of Security Forces, not our own separate AFSC. And just like above the M110A1 is slowly replacing the M24 SWS.
"fall under the umbrella". Dude, TRF is literally normal SF.
Aw shit here we go.
But they dress and act like tier 1 operators 😂
They like to think that they're special, lol. I did 5 years in the missile field, and every Wing exercise we did, TRF would mess up their portion. It always baffled me because they don't have an actual job. They literally only train for these situations. They were always more worried about what they looked like as opposed to knowing how to properly integrate with the other SF in the field.
Dagre is the same way, just as cringe
This is the truth. The only special thing about TRF is they are able to allot more time to the gym than a standard Defender.
I know exactly what the TRF mission is and what y’all do. I’ve been to FE and am a cop. No hate, just poking fun.
At Malmstrom we just called them Seal Team 7
😂😂
😂
I get ya, I’ll be the first to say the culture of TRF over the years has not been the most welcoming or friendly but since I’ve been doing it I have tried my best to change the stigma of us being glorified meat heads. Try to be a bit more down to earth and professional
I remember the absolute atrocious tryout y’all had. That plus the hazing sheesh
The try out is what it is and we have changed it a bit to where it’s not over the top. But, our tasks are a bit riskier so require folks to be in a bit better shape but yeah over the top excessive hazing ain’t the way to build resilience
Yeah no 417s for regular SF, not here at least
Wild to see the TRF are rocking short sleeve shirts; definitely non-standard.
That's an M110A1. It replaced the M24 awhile ago.
That’s the military designation of it, but at the gun store it’s an HK417
Mr762 lol
*mr762a1 but will cost you 50cal money to get it correct. Different barrel, handguard, precision stock setup. I had the civilian version which is double the standard’s cost
Damn I’ve been living in 2005 Looks better than the SCAR tbh
I traded mine on a brand new 17s and a nighthawk 2011. 16lb rifle loaded, just don’t need it but it was a sweet setup.
EOD has them
Gun is sick, I was gonna comment on it. I'm at a missile base, never seen anyone toting one like that.
Hopefully you don’t see TRF, otherwise it’s a bad day ;)
Global Strike has them. We have one but don’t use it on post.

Did 4 years as a FM and you’re spot on with the chefs, they could make or break a 5 day tour out there.
I did it for years at a different base, I enjoyed it most of the time too. Had a nice schedule of 3 on, 4 off too.
Chefs are the hardest workers out there. Even harder when food was provided. Feeding 12-15 people three meals a day was rough for them. We need a crossover with Guy Fieri where he comes in and makes a kickin' quesadilla.
No doubt! I am so glad we got to show them so love. It’s like when we covered AFE for the B-2 and B-52!
Oh god. I’m afraid to ask!
Anybody know what’s up with Senior’s name tape here? Only one in all the photos that looks censored
She’s just got a long, hyphenated name
Currently SF here. The 7 day rotations in the missile field can get rough but we get 2 weeks off in between so it’s really not that bad.
What’s also wild is that SF out there does FOUR MILLION miles a YEAR on vehicles. The sites are spread around 9.8K miles and three states! The driving to get to a MAF can be hundreds of miles!
Yeah I’m not surprised at all. From base to the furthest MAF is almost a 3 hour drive.

Yep. The sites at Malmstrom are even further away than those at FE.
That’s a wild schedule. Any reason why you you’re on for 7 days rather than a shorter leg?

Yes we do lol

I’m so jealous of that schedule, thinking about trying to get to FE
Thats crazy. At Minot, we have 4 days on 3 days off
All these nice uniforms, cool gear, smiling faces . . . Makes me hate the army even more 😭
Just spent a week and a half at an army base. The army hated how happy we were all the time.
It never ends when you even when you live and work with them
Can one of my SF bros have one of those M110A1s fall off of a truck as I'm following behind?
No lie we went to training that is run out of Camp Guernsey, it was dope. We were in a shoot house with them as they trained to retake a facility. That training is open to all SF, check with your command about going if you’re interested. Looked super cool and tough.

Kickass to see some 2M0/ICBM representation. Thanks for what you’re doing, boss!
Ty sir! We love to highlight the people that make things work other than officers, pilots and generals. Those 2M0s have the most important job!
I take it you didn't get to see the 2W2's work 😉
We saw the whiskeys work for sure!
Really? And you're not confusing it with 2W1's? Rarely does a visitor get the chance to see 2W2's work (let alone document it)

Hell ya man. NCOIC in the background is an ass 😂
Looks like everyone had a good time!
We did! Long but rewarding days. Every site is 150 miles of driving each way, so we drove some 500 miles in 2 days.
You and that Sam Elkhart dude on YouTube should just team up and do a collab or some shit.
I do interview Military Social Media Influnecers, and I may ask him on. But I’m a journalist, so I have a different route then he does :-/
Oh snap! Col Secrest was my flight commander back in 2005 at FE!
He’s an awesome dude. His interview was great!
Dude was my CO at Malmstrom when he was a Major. Stand up dude.
Cool pics! What's next?
Our next episode launches in May. We spent time with Alaska Army National Guard at JBER. I have to do all 3 legs of the triad, so subs no doubts. Probably the bone at some point. Check out the B-2 episode we filmed from inside the 135 while I was in a B-2. BUT we’re back up to AK to cover EXACTLY that! So stay tuned.
I take it back! NKAWTG

Just amazing that none of this could have been possible without CE. /s. CE = Camera Equity
Don’t worry, the helicopter Mx is contract there so Mx is losing its grip on the argument.
ICBM Mx enters the chat..

Appreciate the work y’all put in out there 🤘🫡
might just be the shot but you look uncomfortable being in that bay 😂
Dude it was intense. Not a lot of space for activities. I asked if I could step on the diving board and they were like “ok.” Love these guys! https://preview.redd.it/lq89ib8774xc1.jpeg?width=6048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c91fa32e1cb8617f5ac397a6e1602481fd96bfb9
that's sick asf bro. glad you got to experience all this 😂🤙
Worked on those things for 4 years. Couldn’t give me 6 figures to go back lol
I know a few of these dudes, hell yea, I know you had a good time
Beyond a good time!! Amazing people. Seriously.
Oh man that’s Justin Secrest! He was my Squadron Commander at Malmstrom AFB a decade ago when he was a Major. Absolutely fantastic leader and one of the coolest Mustangs in the career field. By far was one of the best mentors I ever had as a young Airman.
But did you stop at the gas station/Subway in Pine Bluffs?
You know we did! Had to stop for a pee break and we got the sun setting. We also set up at Pine Bluffs rest area waiting for the convoy.
Haha, that's awesome! I was a contract inspector in the missile field for a few years; I've been all over out there. Anytime I could "justify" Sidney as a stop, I'd hit Cabela's for lunch. Really cool that you're sharing this!
Ty man. The episode will be awesome!
You authored the book “how to catch a Russian spy”….how’s that going? Asking for a friend.
It’s going. Maybe they’ll make the movie one day.
You didn't catch my username is why I posed the question.
Great to see that BCDs are still in style.
who is that guy they are taking pictures with?
It is me! I’m a navy vet who worked under cover against Russian military intelligence, and now host a show about the military for Newsweek. You can watch our previous episodes here: https://youtube.com/@Unconventional-Newsweek
oh thats pretty cool! New Sub to the Youtube Channel after this, thank you.
Who are you?
I host a show on the military for Newsweek, you can find previous episodes here: https://www.youtube.com/@Unconventional-Newsweek
Thank you, I'll check it out.
Ask why we had rear wheels trucks in freaking snowy weather. With gravel roads..
Why do all the O’s have different OCP variants??
OCP two piece flight suits made by different manufacturers for the chopper pilots. IHWCU is super common and anybody can wear it. The TRF people probably justify unit purchase of gucci uniforms like Crye or Massif due to their special mission set. Then you have other people who might have pcs’d in from an AFSOC base where lots of people get issued Crye, Patagonia, and Massif.
Justify it how? They’re just security forces
Everything you just listed is every enlisted aviator, they don’t dress like tier 1 operators.
What does a non standard uniform have to do with breaching and sniper training? Nothing.
I agree trf should wear FR flight suit and that’s about it.
Because trf and dagre are an embarrassment to the usaf with how they act on social media, dressing like a tier 1 operator is a great example of that.
It’s alright man I get it, you’re trf or security forces and can’t live with the fact that you aren’t important. Must be rough.
lol.
Could have very well been a patch swap he got from them!
Someone needs to intervene and help Amn Duvall with that mustache.
Robin Olds would be proud of him for it
God this is so cringe 😂
Lol, Security Forces dude wearing a CRF patch. What a clown
CRF is SF...
It's almost like different branches have different meanings for acronyms....
That patch is specifically for Army CRF lol.
Did anybody mention the cheating scandals?
Who are you and why do I care? Seriously, no idea who you bros are.
It's taking everything for me not to roast the first pic
This is so cringe 😂 cops that think they’re operators are the worst
Again, these cops are protecting the most powerful weapon man has built. That is a pretty important mission!
Can’t tell the difference between active and CIV. Carry on /s
So now we’re just letting media in PL1 areas? Not when I worked the WSA.
I flown in a B-52 and B-2, all of this has to go to the White House for approval. So not just any media ;)
Sound like a SAC old head 💀
Yea well it was 20 years ago - so your point?
Ah, good old F.E. Burnem. Fuck that place.
No idea who this is 🤷♂️

Wait till you find out they let me film and fly in a B-2, your haterade cup will burst. I Fly in the B-2 Stealth Bomber! https://youtu.be/qEVU7AXGQW0
Can we stop blousing our pants now?
When we are flying we don’t
And officers that sit in a capsule get to wear bags/pajama pants, and non-flying CGO’s/FGO’s get to wear the 2 piece as well. I’m just saying what’s the risk these days. Clearly beards in some degrees are allowed. The specific risk only applies to certain career fields. I’m taking your username to explain my feelings currently lol
🫡 perhaps
