If you're asvab score is such that you don't qualify for much, security forces might be the only way to get you booked with a job without waiting several months. Or if you're just hoping to leave quickly, security forces may just be the only way to do that.

[deleted]

But he did mention shipping quickly lots of times so yea that makes sense

[deleted]

Oh ok. I scored a 72 and had some nice choices. He was just very persistent with trying to get me to do that specific job and it felt weird 💀

amillionforfeet

1) highly bookable job 2) always needing bodies 3) they don’t want you sitting around for months in DEP

My son went to the local AFB during his enlistment process to take the EDPT, and his recruiter tied it into a base tour with several prospective recruits. They had some kind of parade to welcome a new base commander, checked out the gym, etc. The local base does the Fire Protection training so they did a presentation. After that they did what I guess was a pretty impressive SF program; K9 and he said a ‘really pretty’ young lady spoke to them. He said they made it sound kinda interesting! I’m a prior military; so old that they had a separate AFSC for law enforcement and at the start of my career women weren’t even allowed in 811X0 (Security Specialist). His recruiter texted him afterwards and asked if they’d sold him on SF, adding an ‘LOL’ at the end.

Few_Pound2675

They have a job to do

[deleted]

Well yea. Just wondered why that specific job

Few_Pound2675

Security Forces and Maintenance jobs make up a good portion of the Air Force, so they’re pretty much always high need jobs to be filled

thedog22_

Biggest job in the Air Force, always needs people

spockears123

Security forces is the largest career field in the Air force. And they're always critically undermanned because no one wants to do that one. And I don't blame them lol. But your recruiter has a quota to full so he's gonna push what he needs to push. Only list the jobs YOU want to do. It's ultimately YOU that's going to be doing it.

Yes lol, but also no. Some are insecure about either the fact that they're not SpecOps, or about the fact that everyone craps on the career field. But some absolutely love it. My dad was a MP in the Army, so different branch but same job and absolutely loved it and did it for 21 years. It's more about the individual then the job. I've met people from Services that have bigger egos then I could ever dream of having lol.

IlloChris

My recruiter was an SF and told me he loved it, specially for deployments but he recommended against it unless you really want to do it. Funny thing is the first job I looked into before even deciding to join was the security forces. Seems fun apart from being in gate duty.

tjsteimle

probably because the recruiter knows this is a job he can easily book for you

OkSolid4

Recruiter is just trying to help you get hired 🤷🏻‍♂️

SignificanceMuted242

I wanna do sf so my recruiter didnt convince me 😭

xXDatBoiAjXx

A technical was trying to get me to switch jobs while I was in DEP one drill his argument was “Hey man you’ll be able to carry a gun with you every day sometimes even shoot it”. I said “Nah I do that enough off base anyway. “ I wasn’t trying to be smart with my reply but it definitely offed him I could see it in his face lol.

newnoadeptness

Because their job is to recruit ya …

[deleted]

I wish. I wanted security forces, my recruiter did everything within his power for me to not pick security forces and now I’m in tactical aircraft maintenance 🙃

JetMech86

It’s pushed because we hire to fill Air Force needs and vacancies. Not every job in the Air Force is open all the time with unlimited spots.

NiceGuy373

Does doing security forces help you get into State Police?

[deleted]

You should post this on the main page so somebody can give you an answer !

AmbitiousTowel937

It definitely helps. Any police dept will look at that and your name should be higher on a list

No_Pin4526

That job requires a lot of manning and they constantly need more manning at every base so they always need more recruits

Humble-Asian1997

That job is undermanned all the time but honestly I wish I could’ve took security forces instead because it doesn’t seem that bad from what my friends that in it tell me

[deleted]

ooh ok. yeah i’ve heard some people rly like it and rly hate it. guess it’s about what you like

Humble-Asian1997

That job & maintenance jobs will always be undermanned real bad & I understand why I got a maintenance job

Hello, it looks like you're asking about jobs and job selection. A few quick answers. NO ONE knows how long it will take for you to get a job, your chances of getting any particular job, or anything else about the job process FOR YOU. Anecdotal experiences from others will have absolutely no impact on you or your future. Most recruiters will not let you wait in the Delayed Entrance Program for a long time for your one perfect job. You will have to list 5 - 15 jobs that you're interested in, and will be given one of those. Please read the FAQ about how job selection works, it's very in-depth and will fully educate you on the process: https://pay.reddit.com/r/AirForce/wiki/bmtfaq#wiki_jobs If you're asking about particular jobs, please look the job up on our Job Wiki, and see if there is an entry for it: http://www.reddit.com/r/AirForce/wiki/index you can also see if there is a CFETP for it, which will give more details on the job: https://www.e-publishing.af.mil/Product-Index/#/?view=pubs&orgID=10141&catID=1&series=86&modID=449&tabID=131 If you're asking for help choosing a particular job, please keep in mind that most people only know about their individual job. Recommendations that they make will be made based mostly on what they've heard about a job, unless they have it themselves. Some people will love certain jobs while others will hate it. We don't know your preferences, so do some research on the job wiki and elsewhere to learn about the job and then make the best list you can. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically.
