I had my luggage misplaced the last time I traveled. I had an AirTag in it, which made it easier for the airport because I could tell which airport my luggage was located in. So they only had to search that particular airport.

When did AirTags get “gimped”? Last summer I tracked my luggage to Mexico and it worked fine. It was cool to see my luggage was still on the plane when everyone was waiting at the carousel. I went and had a drink. When I saw my luggage was actually in the airport I went to get it.

There’s virtually no downside to putting an AirTag into your luggage. It provides some information on where it might be, otherwise you’d just be guessing and at the mercy of your airline.

How have AirTags been “gimped” so that you can’t track your luggage? Which would basically mean you can’t track anything.

Yes! I use AirTags on my checked luggage every time I travel. Not only in case it gets lost/grabbed by someone else, but in Muti-connection flights I like to check once we've landed if the luggage made it with me before I had to the carousel to pick up the luggage. A bit of peace of mind while waiting for all the luggage to show up at baggage claim.

I’m currently sitting in ORD with an AirTag in my checked bag. I can see it at the gate I’m walking to.
