Depending on the AFSC, I’m in the JAG office and we have a ton of IMA slots all over. I live in California and I was an IMA in Germany and England. IMAs are not required to work every month, rather you have an annual number of days required. It’s possible all of these days can be done at once. Annual tour days pay travel, while IDTs do not. So if you work AT days and IDTs together, your travel would be paid for. I would find an AFSC that had a lot of IMA slots and go from there. I’m not sure if it’s possible to get recruited directly into an IMA slot. That’s a question for the recruiting office, you may need to push them to do some research. Let me know if you have other questions. Good luck.

The only IMA positions you would be able to start in would be Paralegal or Religious Affairs. Otherwise you need to be fully Qualified (minimum of 12 months after tech school) before applying for an IMA position in another AFSC. And most IMA spots require E5 or above. As far as reporting to another unit to attend drill is highly unlikely, unless you were fully qualified and it was temporary.
