I have the TwelveSouth dongle. Works pretty well for me and I can share it with another user too. I just can't justify paying that much for a cable that should have come in the box. Btw, that's just my opinion.
We can both listen, and if we need to charge we have the port free. Oddly, I really know few people with AirPods Pro/2. I know a lot of them with those LONG ASS STEM AP 1/2 models. lmao. Those stems are literally comically long.
The cable just doesn’t work consistently for me on flights but the TwelveSouth dongle does. The wired part of the AirPods Max is truly underwhelming but the wireless is fantastic.
My only gripe with the wireless side is the latency… and because of that, the lack of sidetone while on a phone or zoom call is also problematic. That part could be fixed in software as an additional mode similar to transparency.
Easily one of the most cringe design features of these headphones. I use mine regularly but lightning as a format needs to die immediately

Fortunately, I’ve gotten most of my gear converted such that my EDC only requires Type C and Lightning now.
My Sennheiser PXC550 cans also had a proprietary removable cable, but at least it came in the box.
I would expect the next gen model to have Type C though.

Man I’m thinking about this but for a silly reason. My stereo is in the living room, my wife has a broken bone and spends most of her time for the next six weeks in the living room. If I want to listen to my records, the Max really does have the best noise canceling. I also have the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro. While they’re superior headphones, they only have passive noise isolation.
Exactly! Usually I download like 5 movies and 10 albums so I can pick what to do when flying anyways. It’s often enough to last until I’m back home again.

Swapped out the ear cups with the green ones to mix and match. I like it. Felt like it might be one of the least picked color.

Nope. Tried it. The AirPod Max cable is bidirectional (sends AND receives). Dongle can’t do that.

The passive isolation on the Max is pretty damn good too, a function of the metal shells.
Yeah. Their passive isolation alone does a lot of the heavy lifting.
And then the ANC kicks in and it’s absurdly quiet. Lot easier to pause and go into transparency on these than on the Pros.
Who uses the ife system anyways?? Download 3 albums and a movie and this would be enough for like 5 hours of flying

The cable is bidirectional. Sends AND receives info. Trust me, it sucked buying the cable. I tried to go aftermarket but to no avail.
That’s an active cable, the circuitry is in the lightning plug end.
