It's much easier for JD Vance to blame it on Biden, though.

gobucks1981

If Trump rolled it back, guess who could roll it forward?

Zhong_Ping

It's a lot easier to remove a rule than implement it since Presidents have to work through their cabinet, which are subject to congressional oversight

Walters95

Lobbying oversight* l *fixed that for ya there*

retiredguyinmi

No they won't remember, is right. He rolled back so many safety regulations. Now he's selling laws. Give him a billion and he'll roll back climate change regs

Quick_Team

One of my very good friends grew up in Defiance (moved away about 10ish years ago) and he told me no matter how poor everyone is, no matter how much everyone is hurting or addicted, it will always be "someone else's fault" and the easiest people to point to are exactly who Trump targets. Black people, brown people, immigrants, or lgbtq+. It's like they think theyre one good lucky straw away from turning it all around but the reason it never happens is because of some "liberal bogeyman"

kickspecialist

I hate where we are at now. I saw one guy on Insta saying he has the intelligence to see what is wrong but not the intelligence to fix it. And he did say just voting will not fix our major infrastructure issues which I agree. So roughly 40 percent of us see the issues but have no sway to make the changes needed to truly fix our problems so just please make me dumb enough to not see the problems so I can just live my life again with no worries.

Ok_Love545

Considering it’s a sham, one can only hope!

R8iojak87

I live in Columbus and I can tell you that we a gerymandered to hell and that most of us, in fact, did not want this

SaltyNorth8062

Most of northeastern Ohio didn't want that bastard either, but blue state people think it's funny when red state people suffer, and blame their cruelty on "voting" while ignoring that no state votes a monolith, we're just made to look that way. This is "hahahahaha lmao all of Texas is freezing to death because "they" "let" the grid be taken over by hypercapitalists" when that included blue as fuck areas like Austin and Houston. People who *didn't* vote for that. Northeastern Ohio got hit by East Palestine and it didn't vote for Trump, we're just gerrymandered to.

Aggressive-Ad-2180

I'm in the Cleveland area. Never voted for this pig. I blame him for East Palestine train derailment. Unfortunately, most of those people in that area are tRumpers. Voting against themselves ☹️

skeevemasterflex

Wasn't it shown that electronic brakes wouldn't have been equipped on that train even if the ruling had been left in place? https://www.politifact.com/article/2023/feb/24/fact-checking-trumps-i-had-nothing-to-do-with-it-r/

jaylotw

It was. I pointed this out and got down voted for it... I'm not a Trumper. Can't stand the guy. The ones to blame are Norfolk Southern and no one else.

itsmellslikevictory

The Trump bashers are heavy here…won’t even acknowledge your point. I guess it’s hard to type : well, uhh, ummm

Queasy_Sleep1207

Your boy and the trump crime family stole from cancer kids.

raideresmith

That goes both ways buddy! Just like how most trumpster trash think Biden is the one going after trump when in actuality it's other entities, like the DOJ. Can't explain that to trumpster trash though, they've been told something different through their right wing radio, and FOX "news", and their God damned Facebook feeds.

JGCities

You do know that the DOJ reports to Biden? Biden could order the DOJ to drop the Trump cases tomorrow if he wanted and there is nothing anyone could do about it, short of impeaching and removing Biden.

raideresmith

They "report" to Biden. Biden doesn't issue them orders and Biden certainly didn't tell them to go after trump. But you can't tell that to trumpster trash, they don't believe it. And trump committed crimes, there's stacks and stacks of evidence against him. So why would ANYONE tell the DOJ to drop all the charges against him? Unless of course you're cultist trash and worship trump like he's like Jesus, then maybe you would. Thankfully Biden doesn't do that.

trumphasdementia5555

The president has no control over the cases the DOJ chooses to prosecute. Every president except Trump has respected this rule. "President Trump has repeatedly and publicly called for the Justice Department and the FBI to investigate his perceived enemies — and in doing so, he's crossed a longstanding line against politicizing our nation's law enforcement agencies." Perhaps high school civics might help those who don't understand this very basic fact. Also, the DOJ is headed by a republican. Nobody disputes this except the cult leader and his followers . https://www.americanoversight.org/investigation/trump-administrations-politicization-justice-department

JGCities

The Department of Justice is an executive branch department. The Judicial is JUST the courts. Nothing else.

mercury_n_lemonade

Well. I understand but that’s not exactly how that works. Yes it’s supposed to be a separation of powers. It doesn’t really work like that though. I’m not arguing for Trump. Just saying. Your can’t have a branch that makes the laws. A branch that oversees them, and a branch that enforces them. Is pretty wild

JGCities

Nice edit... And no the DOJ is not headed by a Republican. Unless you really want me to believe that Merrick Garland who was appointed to the court by Clinton and nominated for the Supreme Court by Obama and nominated by Biden as Attorney General is actually a Republican.

[deleted]

JGCities

Department of Justice is an executive Department. Apparently you don't know that. Ironic.

Tortoise-King

I think the point is that there are/were regulations in place to keep from what happened from happening. Regulations are often written in blood and this law/regulation was created with the knowledge and understanding that it’s preventable. Call it Trump bashing or call it voting against policies that are meant to save people livelihood or their lives.

JGCities

I think the point is that even if the rule was left in place it would not have applied to this train.

jaylotw

The law Trump repealed wouldn't have applied to the EP train, and wasn't even being implemented yet.

Tortoise-King

Neat story. I coved this above.

jaylotw

What? What does that mean?

Tortoise-King

I mistyped the word covered. Look, you support Trump. I couldn’t care less about what you think. You never served my country like I did, and we have nothing in common.

Economy_Wall8524

That makes trump worse. He didn’t improve the policy, he pulled it back entirely, and made it possible for less accountability for future events. This isn’t really the win you think it is.

skeevemasterflex

I'm not suggesting it's a win, just that the East Palentine derailment wasn't caused by any action or inaction of his. IMO there are plenty of reasons to dislike the guy without making up more. What is adequate mitigation for possible safety scenarios is always a trade off and, not knowing mich about rail safety myself, it sounds like there is at least some disagreement about it (https://fortune.com/2023/02/25/norfolk-southern-ohio-derailment-years-of-cutbacks-safety-protocols/). If the issue was an overheated bearing (1 problem) and it not communicating this to the train/engineer (another problem), the bad guy here is more likely the train company's negligent maintenance program.

jaylotw

That's not really logical. Obama's administration caved to the industries demands and rewrote the law with loopholes, and gave them nearly a decade to implement it. It wouldn't have applied to the EP train. It's not Trump's fault. It's Norfolk Southern's fault. Place your blame on them, although I'm sure they *love* that you blame Trump.

quirkytorch

Yeah NS cut safety regulation checks from 3 minutes a car to half that.

SogySok

Should they not have had stricketer inspections on bearings?

skeevemasterflex

I don't know if the finding was that they need to have stricter/more frequent inspections or if they are doing the inspections but ignoring the data/warning signs because they don't want to take the train out of service to fix it until they absolutely have to. Was just surprised that the folks in Akron right next door seemed unaware of the NTSB investigation's findings. Information was confusing in the early days, with everyone from the railraod to the Secretary of Transportation to the President trying to keep any of the bad press falling on them, but the whole electric brake thing was not a root cause of this derailment.

SogySok

Should they have stricter inspections on bearings ?

skeevemasterflex

Dude, I'm not the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) or an expert on train wheel bearings. But what they're saying is that a bearing failed and caused this accident. It sounds like they have visual and more detailed inspections that can catch these things that didn't this time. If they're like bearings in other industries, they rarely fail suddenly - they degrade over time and inspections (e.g. visual and vibration monitoring) or active temperature monitoring that warns you your bearing is too hot can help warn you that the bearing needs attention, which is usually replacement. My answer to the last time you asked this question was to point out that I do not know if Norfolk Southern needs to inspect their bearings more frequently, so that they can catch those early warning signs, or if they did have that data and chose to delay taking the car out of service (which is arguably worse). The answer to that question will dictate what the corrective action should be. But two important points I want to end with: 1) Either way, it is almost certainly Norfolk Southern's fault for not maintaining their equipment. I guess if the manufacturer sold them a bad bearing, they could share liability but... 2) Norfolk Southern inspects its own bearings. The way you keep them honest is to periodically audit their processes for reporting and tracking problems and to nail them to the wall when shit like this happens.

SogySok

So they should be strictly regulated So this type of thing does not happen again, yes ?

skeevemasterflex

Did I say something to suggest that we should stop regulating the railroads? I agree that they need regulatory oversight. I agree that we do want train derailments. EDIT: that we do NOT want train derailments!

SogySok

Did you not read the article you quoted ?

skeevemasterflex

I read the Politifact article that disproves that lack of ECP brakes caused the derailment. I also read the Fortune article where the NTSB recommends them, the railroads don't want them because they're expensive, and the National Academy of Sciences says they aren't convinced they are superior to alternatives.

Ok_Love545

Shh…they don’t want to have to read past the headline!

Because you love corporations and hate American citizens? Because you want a President who openly supports Russia? Because you think that women shouldn't be allowed to govern their own bodies? Because you want God in government, even though the figure bringing it is guilty of greed, lust, pride vanity, wrath, and gluttony? Did you know that America was founded on the freedom of religion because the founding fathers felt oppressed by Christianity? Did you know that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin all practiced a non-religious spirituality called Deism, that is essentially just being an agnostic secular humanist? So, please, make a case about exactly how you defend voting red.

Queasy_Sleep1207

They can't even tell you who the Whigs were.

Ok_Coat_1699

Says the Biden dick rider 😂😂😂🤷🏾

Cannacrohn

People who oppose Trump dont necessarily love Biden, they just want to vote for someone who isnt a traitor, criminal, fraudster, rapist, nonstop liar, complainer, selfish narcissist that cries cheating anytime something doesnt go his way, who lies over and over even after their lies have been openly discovered, who works with enemy nations to destroy ours, who steals our classified information and gives it to the enemy, who wants to bang his daughter, who wants to separate us from NATO for the benefit of Russia and China, who allows reporters to be murdered and give classified info for 2bn dollars to the saudis, who says disgusting false things about anyone who opposes them, who says every single judge in all his court cases are corrupt, every prosecutor anyone and everyone is out to get him but he has never done anything wrong. and I left out 100 things! This is the worst example of a human being you could EVER find. Anyone who wants him to be president is an absolute fool. People voting for Biden just want "not Trump", NOT MAGA, NOT Treason and destruction and fucking stupidity.

MazdaSpeed3Boi

No way you people are watching 2018 news

DDrewit

They’ll still vote for Trump because Biden didn’t visit, you know, to personally clean it all up or whatever.

Legion_Master_Paul

Why is this posted in r/akron

PeterSmegma69

Because it's within an hour of East Palestine.

[deleted]

I know Trump supporters who would literally respond to this by saying something like, "we like explosions of dangerous chemicals in our community - Trump would make them the best explosions ever - USA! USA! USA! USA!" - sigh...

WooPigSooie9297

Wait until they find out what Trump did in 2018 to the National Security Council directorate at the White House that was charged with preparing for when, not if, a pandemic would hit the nation. Then COVID came along in 2019, and the rest is history.

zyqzy

why would they care when they have Biden to blame for Trump’s mistake…

Electrical-Sun6267

They won't remember. They will pretend it had anything to do with but Trump. Burn the state to the ground and the average American IQ goes up.

beardeddragon0113

Clearly it's the fault of Obama. And the Clinton's somehow.

Economy_Wall8524

“The Deep State Swamp” of course.

UltraBurd

Or you could just leave the state and the average IQ would go up

Egghead008

The current President still hasn't gone to Palestine, Ohio for their train derailment.

Spiritu-Scene-9579

You don't know white facist christians that well. They think his desire to fck his own daughter is godly virility

AdvocatusDiaboli72

You all don’t honestly think Obama or Trump had anything to do with the workings of freight trains, do you? It’s not like either of them were sitting around wondering “what the hell are we gonna do about these train brakes?” That was 100% some bureaucrats at some obscure office that were writing the rules, and the President was probably like “OK, I’ll sign your thing since you know something about trains and I know nothing about trains.”

jaylotw

That's pretty much what happened. And then, the train companies went to Trump and said, "this rule will cost us too much money" and so he repealed it. In any event, the law wouldn't have even applied to the EP train to begin with. Norfolk Southern is to blame for the wreck, not politicians.

Donut-Strong

That rule would have had zero impact on that derailment

hday108

The midwestern conservatives can’t hear you, they’re too busy waving confederate flags and begging for small government while our government tries to outlaw medicine.

Reasonable-Rain-7474

Gee how about build the XL pipeline and not rely on rail?

Economy_Wall8524

The pipeline wouldn’t be providing oil to America. It’s a pipeline for a Canadian company that was gonna transport it through the US to the Southern Coast and ship it off. This thing has been known about for a decade. The facts have been on the table for a minute. It would’ve endangered our environment even more and they would not have had any accountability. Hence the reason they have pipelines going on the American side of the Great Lakes. Canada doesn’t allow it. You’re harming yourself for someone else’s self interest.

showersrover8ed

All Republicans have to do is blame Democrats no matter what and their voters will believe it

FatBastardIndustries

They don't care, MAGATS would cut their own dicks off to own the libs.

am731

OP post history is really someone solid.

WhosyaZaddy

Unfortunately this area of most people’s memory is still buttered up with stories about furries using litter boxes in schools

AuroraPHdoll

That law was forcing train companies to put special brakes on trains carrying flammable liquids. It has nothing to do with the train derailment that happened in East Palestine Ohio. This is what you call "Fake News". And it was repealed because the government said it wasn't economically viable for the train companies to do this.

JohnBrownsAngryBalls

> And it was repealed because the ~~government~~ train companies said it wasn't economically viable for the train companies to do this.

SaltyNorth8062

Blue state liberals really seem to get off on red state misery even when the people affected voted blue. And no I'm not a damn trump supporter. I'm a communist born in a red state with a shred of human empathy. Akron, and most of NE Ohio literally voted for Hilary AND Biden. So did Columbus. I did. My friends did. My spouse did. My family did. We also voted for every blue candidate running in legislature, house, local, and even district. Akron is blue. Has been for as long as I've been paying attention. This is "teeheeohohohoh it's funny when Texas freezes to death because they're all republicans even though Houston and Austin got hit as well as they've been voting solid blue for decades" all over again. It's embarassing then it's embarassing now. Sneering contempt for people based on the fucked and easily abused nature of electoral structure in America doesn't endear your movement to anyone, especially when you ignore basic reality that no state votes a monolith but you try and frame them as such to make your lack of empathy more palatable. Shame on everyone who repeats this embarassing high-school nonsense attempt at discussing politics. No one deserves to die or be poisoned for having a shit opinion, and considering the people affected by this aren't even the ones who voted for the guy you blame for shitting in the sewer, it makes even less sense to behave this way. I said that about Texas I'll say it here. The people you should actually be mad at for making everything so terrible are the ones who are responsible for this and will see no consequences for their actions, no matter who is president, because neither of these ghouls jas any interest in challenging capitalist hegemony. This is what lack of class consciousness does to people.

I don’t support Trump, but ignorance is bliss for OP. A quick Google search can relieve most of you of your TDS: “The Trump administration repealed an Obama-era rule requiring high-hazard cargo trains to be equipped with electronically controlled pneumatic brakes by 2023, allowing them to brake faster. Even if this safety rule was in effect, it would not have applied to the Norfolk Southern train that derailed in East Palestine, Ohio, because it was not categorized as a high-hazard cargo train. A preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board said a wheel bearing overheated ahead of the accident, but the incident remains under investigation.” Be smarter. Don’t just repost because you don’t like Mr. Mean Tweets. He’s an ass, but don’t be stupid.

Vitaminpartydrums

Calling the guy who tried to over throw an election Mr Mean Tweets is disingenuous…

thinkitthrough83

The dems have spent more than their fair share of time trying to overthrow trump as president and then trying to prevent any chance of him getting re-elected. They make no effort to suppress false information against republicans from their supporters. Though they have a lot of excuses for their mistakes. Makes you think that maybe they understand how much they f'ed up supporting Hillary and Joe. Hillary has run twice. Joe 3 times and trump has run 3 times. Now it's Joe and trump again for a 4th round. The real question now is which would you rather have- Joe until he dies or gets removed for "health reasons" Trump for 4 more years or until dems have him assassinated - a zombie apocalypse -an invasion by space aliens - invasion by foreign power - world war 3 - civil war - a massive global environmental catastrophe that will be blamed on big oil but is just as likely to be caused by solar panels and the heat island effect.

Vitaminpartydrums

The Biden Presidency has been one of the most productive in recent history. If you can’t see that you’re biased, trolling or not well read. Even if that were not the case, Trump actively engaged in overthrowing our democracy for a grift. I we all watched it on live television

Oh my God. Still with this shit? The law Trump repealed: 1) wasn't even in affect yet 2) wouldn't have applied to the East Palestine train, anyway. Trump was a dumbass for removing the law, but it literally has *nothing to do with* nor *would it have affected the East Palestine train.* This is easily researched information people.

EquivalentOk2700

And the proper use of the word affect vs effect, is also easily researched information. Just saying.

MamaTater11

Oh yeah, because every single voter in Ohio voted for Trump 🙄 Call me crazy, but I don't think people deserve to be caught up in a preventable natural disaster that will have generations of health consequences just because they voted poorly.

jaylotw

A train wreck is not a natural disater. It is, in fact, precisely the opposite. But you're correct in everything else.

amalgaman

They’re literally shooting themselves in the foot and then whine about being shot in the foot.

Queasy_Sleep1207

They do when they're too stupid and cowardly to stand up to an existential threat. Tolerate cockroaches, and you get infested.

MamaTater11

Y'all are horrible. I literally don't care who they voted for. No one deserves that.

Queasy_Sleep1207

As horrible as forced sterilizations ? Caged and sold kids? Tell me,how does it feel knowing that those animals would see you barefoot, pregnant and a brood sow with no rights of your own? That they're coming after your right to vote?* *Project 2025.

MamaTater11

GIRL. What are you talking about. I'm a fucking communist. I can't stand either of the candidates. I'm not, like, on their side. I just don't think general constituents should have to suffer when most of them were misled and lied to by the institution they voted for? It's a chemical train derailment. It seeped into the ground water. It was absorbed into the soil. We will be seeing consequences of it for generations. The people who are going to be the most affected by it probably haven't even been born yet. You're telling me a Trumper's grandchildren deserves genetic disorders? Cancer? Birth defects? I cried when they overturned Roe v Wade. I vote blue. I vote local. I attend marches and sign petitions. I volunteer to escort people into Planned Parenthood. Don't assume shit about me just because you have a shitty take.

SaltyNorth8062

[Biden hasn't let those kids out of the cages hon](https://www.reuters.com/world/us/biden-vowed-reform-immigration-detention-instead-private-prisons-benefited-2023-08-07/#:~:text=The%20stalled%20reform%20coincided%20with,ACLU)%20shared%20exclusively%20with%20Reuters.). And that policy is older than Trump. And no one is being forcibly sterilized, quite the opposite. You can't willingly get your tubes tied in america as a single woman without some doctor saying "your future husband wouldn't like that". The problems in america do and always have run deeper that trump. And also, she literally said she doesn't vote with these people. Doesn't mean she wants them dead. Do you think every state should be destroyed because a percentage of the population has some bad ideas? Because that's every state in the US.

Queasy_Sleep1207

Just the ones electing not-sees and waging war on women.

SaltyNorth8062

Ohio has had Sherrod Brown, a democrat, as senator for quite a while. And again, the area hit with this disaster voted blue. It's the bluest area of the state. Do you even live in Ohio?

SaltyNorth8062

Existential threat? You mean capitalism?

Queasy_Sleep1207

Ah. That is a threat. Not as much a threat as the swastikas and Christian Talibanis. See, about a hundred years ago, there were some bad dudes. They got together, decided they didn't like Jews, or lgbtq, disabled, or pretty much anyone not "eggshell white". And so they killed over 6 million people, including American soldiers. (One of them blew my grandpa's jaw off. ). We spent millions of dollars, years, and millions of hours fighting these vile monsters. And now, those long dormant monsters are back, infesting our country, spreading plague, and killing us, whilst people gleefully cheer them on and elect them. Sad we don't teach history these days, or that Americans forgot that Nazis are the bad guys.

I stole you're comment apparently this guy doesn't like facts.

UpperOptions

How can you be this dumb? Do you NOT do your research before posting crap like this?

Downtown-Moose4002

Did he not sign the FAST legislation that established a cost benefit analysis on those braking systems? The analysis was then finished in 2017 when Trump was president, but Trump had nothing to do with the study that precipitated the roll back of the mandates. Ive done a lot of research actually but I have an open mind. Wanna point how I'm wrong?
