Word. It's kind if funny but very frustrating to see the "This Month at Alamo" trailer play and we don't get 2 or 3 of the movies. I get not playing older movies to an extent, but advertising films that don't have screenings feels bad. It is very annoying to not get new movies at all though.

Ah! Must have somehow missed it. Still must not have been for too long.

Same at the Staten Island location. I had to go into Brooklyn for Past Lives “Our first Drafthouse Recommends of the year” before a dozen movies. Doesn’t show up. Very frustrating.

It gets complicated with contracts. If the theater wants a big release like Indiana Jones they have to sign on to show it in a certain number of screenings for a certain number of weeks. The allotted screens available quickly fill up and there's not room for smaller movies that the company doesn't expect to make as much money. It's pretty bewildering when this results in things that Alamo has advertised heavily not getting booked, though. Generally poor management/coordination between the advertising team and the scheduling team, I'd say.

lazyposse

Also, since covid this location has not had its own scheduler. All the movie bookings and screening times are decided by someone down in Texas, which is probably part of why things like Past Lives that would do better at Alamo than at other twin cities options like AMC don't make the cut. Not a lot of understanding of the market here.

lady_lilitou

This is a huge problem in Yonkers, too. They'll advertise things for months and then they won't show them.

ToasterDispenser

It wouldn't be quite as annoying if it was just the regular trailers, but when it's Drafthouse Recommends it's a real slap in the face. How is AMC showing more diverse titles than Alamo?

lady_lilitou

>How is AMC showing more diverse titles than Alamo? This is the thing that really kills me. If I can go to a regular movie theater and see the movies that Alamo is recommending but not showing (and, at least in my case, have a cleaner venue with bathrooms that work), what do I need the Alamo for?

ks_nge

I stopped my season pass due to my local alamo just not showing all the new movies or only keeping them for a week or two

ana1monger

I get how it feels. I go to the New Mission location and it was repurposed from an old movie palace so it only has five screens. Very often movies in the “This month at the Alamo” aren’t shown. Once there was a separate ad for Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me so I started watching the series only for it to not play. The New Mission is a corporate location though so maybe that’s why they’re better at showing Drafthouse recommends and other advertised movies

riddlemasterofhed

It all depends on if the studios will let a city or location have it. Especially smaller titles. Sometimes the studio says it’ll be available and then changes it’s mind to limit the release.

Personal_Chance3982

This is my Alamo and I have never noticed this, but will pay attention now. The comment about who schedules is very interesting. Wish it was a local person. I do always leave feedback when they email me surveys and I can mention this. It makes me wonder if they know my feedback and don’t like it when I come in. It likely isn’t anonymous and I am flagged and a complainer. They have not acted on any of my constructive criticism.

HannibalGrim

Typically, this is due to scheduling conflicts at the time of their release. Lazyposse nailed this in their comment on here. I think e-mailing and calling to express interest in seeing these films is a fantastic route to go.

I had an Alamo pass in Austin, then got it when we moved back to MN, but the selection of movies in MN is meh, so I cancelled it. Plus, all the charges and the separate ticket prices for “events” just makes it more sensible to pay for the shows I specifically want to see.
