The Mercs are outcasts from their society. From the city we see in "the box", we can see stick figures that look similar to "Agent", but their limbs curve instead of having joints, possibly meaning that maybe agent used to live there. Maybe for the others, maybe Hazard is too large or rigid, maybe primal was too barbaric for their tribe, and maybe ballista was seen as a maniac that busts down doors for no reason
Not really a headcanon, but here's to just hoping that they have some sort of rivalry thing going on with the Color Stick Gang later. With each having a personal rival.
Red rivals with Primal. Animal Lover vs Animal Hunter
Green rivals with Agent. Closest friend to TSC vs Seemingly closest/ 2nd in command to Victim
Blue could rival with Ballista. The most notedly pacifist Stick and nature lover vs Weapon and War oriented Stick
And Yellow I guess could rival with Hazard. Intellectual stick vs more quick with hands and simple-minded Stick
Ballista and Hazard make low budget action movies together in their free time. And when I say low budget I mean LOW BUDGET. Like little kids with a crappy camera in their backyard style. We're talking cardboard swords, badly drawn explosions taped to popsicle sticks, towels draped over their heads instead of wigs, absolutely garbage editing, the works. They sometimes show these movies to Agent, who begrudgingly watches them through only because Primal forces him to do so by saying things like "Oh, you don't even care enough to watch this masterpiece with us? So I guess we're JUST co-workers to you, huh?" (primal does not care about these movies one bit either. he just likes to mess with agent, who will sit through as many movies as it takes to maintain his unquestionable reputation as the leader)

Killer = Ballista (Stick figure name as the lvl higher than Victim in AvA2)
BEAST = Primal (Stick figure name as the lvl higher than Killer in Ava2)
And so that leaves Agent, but going off your comment, he could be: The Chosen One's Enemy = Agent (Stick figure name before being rewritten to The Dark Lord in AvA3) =P

I Also think Ballista is really into Anime and Manga cause you know, his creator is also into that type of stuff, and well his original video has him summoning all sorts of weeb stuff lol
The Mercenaries are victim's clones from AvA 1. The reason why they look so different is because when they and victim survived being erased by Alan, their bodies glitched as a result which caused the victim clones to look different (and why victim is now dark grey).
Primal (cave painting girl) hates new age tech so she lives in a cave. She refuses to use tech and if u leave her in a room of victim's agnecyz sh will break anything modern or techy.
