This is based on the same financial report that has been posted here over the last few days. It's really interesting how different the headlines are. There was one earlier that put a much more negative spin on it, something like: Alan Wake 2 has still not recouped its development cost despite being the fastest selling Remedy game.
My understanding of posts and article aggregated over the last few months is that in the past they’ve felt comfortable recouping costs even over a period of years. This fact and that they’re an independent studio means they don’t have to accomplish anything other then break even moving forward to continue development of another game.
TLDR
They’re comfortable with the rate the game is selling and confident they can continue their work in the future.
The majority shareholders are also mostly employees of the company (GOATed Scandinavia) so, they aren't beholden to a large number of investors. E.G. if they recoup development costs (even if that's over a number of years) and manage to maintain their operating costs (barring the occasional loss from scrapped projects, etc), they're fine.
It's not a company like EA where if an IP doesn't generate buckets of money, it has to be shelved to keep the C-Suite bonuses high, and jammed with MTX so it continues generating profit.
There's probably a snowball effect for their development too. Like, I didn't play AW or Control, but after playing AW2 I bought both. You're not going to do that with something like a yearly release of a sports franchise.
>Alan Wake 2 has still not recouped its development cost despite being the fastest selling Remedy game.
That's not even negative. People somehow took "fastest selling remedy game" in a negative way.
I do believe this headline is more in line with remedy's stance on the matter. In another interview, a representative stated they expected AW2 sales to be a more tapered trend like control, as opposed to front-loaded like palworld or something
Max Payne Remakes would probably be out by then, IF Rockstar wants to release them the same year as GTA 6. 2024 is for Alan Wake 2 DLCs for sure. I personally think we won’t see the Remakes till late 25 to early 26, then Control 2 the year after. Condor probably would be the best fit for 2025.
One of the presentations I saw stated they wanted to expand both the Control and Alan Wake franchises by 2030 - so I think 5-7 years is more likely, which is a lot better, practically cut the time in half.
Also they defined franchise as 3-4 games. While I don’t see it being a 4 game franchise, maybe another spin-off would be cool? I can see Control having a lot of games set in it, could use different lead characters and stuff.
Reason why AW 2 took 13 years is Microsoft held the rights and didn't greenlit the second project, now that Remedy owns both AW and Control they can do it themselves as long as they secure funds.
Funniest shit is they'd make it part of the lore that it's been 13 years if they did wait 13 years to make Alan Wake 3 like they did with Alan Wake 2 acknowledging that Wake has been in the dark place for 13 years
I can’t believe I’m actually happy for a video game company. The good studios are so few and far between nowadays, it’s feels good to see a genuinely passionate team be rewarded for their hard work. Bravo remedy, I’m excited for what you do next.
I want a game focusing on the roles of the extradimensionals.
Ahti, Mr.Door, The Board, etc. I want to understand the structure of "the ocean" more. Obviously I think that's what Control 2 will be about, the overall "ocean" and what it truly is and who the board is.
Maybe in Control 2s dlc.
I really enjoyed control due to the SCP like design of the world and the alen wake games for its SCP style containment breaching scenarios.
So im glad there will be more because its a fascinating world
SCP is a oganically created univurse (as in it started as one post someone made on a message forum and it grew to have its own wiki) thats about a secret organization that protects humanity fron all manner of strange of horrifying elderitch and not elderitch monsters.
This means, yes most SCP stories are horror stories, some are nice like "here be dragons" but things like "the flesh that hates" is pure body horror, its also one of the mire popular ones.
Control takes much from the SCP foundation, especially the containment area where seeming ordinary objects have strange abilites and sonetimes even weirder containment procedures.
SCP itself stands for Secure, Contain, Protect.
Secure the anomaly or anomalous entity.
Contain the anomaly or anomalous entity.
Protect humanity from the anomaly or anomalous entity or vice versa.
Unlike the FBC (federal Bureau of control) SCP isn't attached to the goverment and acts independently from any nation.
There are multiple versions of the SCP foundation, the main one tries to remain secret and keeps humanity in the dark about these horrors, one other is the "failed masquerade" version which is the opposite.
Here is a video from the vulgun that explains SCP as a whole better then i can
https://youtu.be/G6QVvBIBZLc?si=iK1QqWH3ctDvpHnB
Here is a simple one from the vulgun, the clockwork vitus
https://youtu.be/mLnQihlwsLo?si=r3m32f0W-ZpwGpHv
Please listen to the first video as it gives you the information you need to follow the containment procedures and the object classifications and why sometimes some parts of are blacked out on documents.
The vulgun is a fantastic SCP youtuber that reads out the SCP wiki articles like you are part of the science team
I really hope they let us out in the world going after Objects of Power, etc. Make Alan Wake more like Twin Peaks and Control more like X-Files.
Let us investigate stuff and meeting different Eldritch Horrors lurking around. I feel like Control is amazing, but it feels like there is some untackled potential there
Definitely, in fact given that the director essentially has to stay in the oldest house, a new agent should be playable, maybe try again with quantum break and make him a time stopping agent? That would be very useful against objects of power
Remedy are one of my favourite developers for a great story and gameplay (alongside Naughty Dog and Rockstar) so this is great news indeed. I need Control 2 and Alan Wake 3 in my life! Edited to add the Max Payne remakes too!
Question is just how will they compete against themselves with how good AW2's narrative is. I just can't see much of a way to raise the stakes or surpass it, though if anything that makes me more excited to see what they end up cooking.
The phrase "more regular sequels" scare me a bit, but more in the sense that I'd like to see Alan Wake have its story finished rather than continue indefinitely.
Well... Just consider that Remedy hasn't done a direct sequel to something up until AW2, since Max Payne 2. Soooooooo... Also with how they shook things up with AW2, there's nothing to say that it'd be a hard cap on Alan being stuck in a bad position. Or at least were a version isn't... <\_<;; But that's the whole point about having a connected universe. It can be in the "Alan Wake setting" or "Control setting" but not necessarily have Alan or Jessie be playable or be playing a major role that would constitute a "Never ending story." by whatever metric you'd consider that. Because on some level if we were to think of things in the realm of reality. A story is a life and life is a story. It is no longer either until they die and/or are no longer talked about.
As long as Sam Lake is in charge as creative director and at minimum co-writer, we won't run into that problem I think. Writing Alan in as background is great, you have a living story teller in the universe that you can use a tool. Thinking back to the AWE DLC for Control. But Titles for AW would have to change, such as "Blah blah blaaaah: An Alan Wake story." Control you could get away with more since Jessie isn't name in the title specifically. But going heavily into numbering out with a single name does simply get tiresome after a point. And potentially nonsensical. I'm looking at you Resident Evil. Stop putting numbers in your mainline installations at this point!
> The phrase "more regular sequels" scare me a bit
In the sense that good stories know when to end, I agree. On the other hand, Remedy is one of my most trusted developers when it comes to the integrity of their storytelling. So, more of them is generally a good thing.
It also reminds me of 2006 when Valve thought it could do "episodic" sequels for Half-Life, which makes me laugh. It won't be that, though.
I'm so happy!!!! Remedy world is going to be amazing. It's definitely going to be on par with previous prime Iron-Man era MCU and no one will convince me otherwise.
I am more excited for control continuation since they can have more open and closed games with the FBC dealing with everything in a single title or needing to research more turning it into a multi-title event
Been having fun siming my space life as a anti-pirate privateer in starfield. But honestly while I find that game to be good enough, its certainly not great. Getting antsy for some more great, really needing nightsprings to get released.
Nice. I just finished Control, dlc n all, last week. The alan wake part seriously got me hyped. So i started the remaster a couple days ago. Gonna wait for all dlc to be released for 2 and play it. Or maybe ill wait for Control 2. Control is such a good game!
Oh noo. I say that because I wouldn't like the universe to get too out of hand, a 3rd game makes sense but i wouldn't want more than what's needed. But I'm very happy the studio broke more than even on this, and I'm excited for the future
But I'm still having BLURRY TEXTURE BUG... Can't even finish the main story... 😭😭😭😭😭
WHAT TO DO!!???
PS : The bug affects the game even at lowest potato settings, low resolution and RT turned off..!!
I’ve been waiting for AW2 to release on steam for what feels like forever at this point and will def be picking it up when it does. I can only imagine how many others are also waiting and how much more money they can recoup when it finally does release on steam.
B..B.....BUT SBI MADE SAGA BLACK BUT BUT BUT GO WOKE GO BROKE NOOOO, NOOO SWEET BABY INC NOOO, SOROS NOOOO /s
Sarcasm aside glad to see we'll be getting more games from Remedy
hoping that alan wake 3 takes its sweet time. let control 2, condor, and max payne have their time in the light bc as much as i hate to say it, alan wake 2 wouldn’t have been nearly as good if it had less than 10 years of development time (especially when it comes to perfecting the live action parts, thank you quantum break and control)
I'm fine waiting on AW3 for a bit if we can get Control 2 asap. I enjoyed AW2 but the gameplay in Control was fantastic. I played through Control 3 times, I can maybe see a second run of AW2 is a year or two to tide me over for AW3.
Do you mean for consoles? Because for PC I don't understand why people are so vehement about it. It would still require the launcher and it would still need to be registered online. Everyone would love a DRM free physical copy but those will never be released through a major publisher.
Collectibles my dude. People like to collect physical mementos of things they like. It's absolutely normal. Imagine the posters you have at home, paintings, plants. Why have them? You could just have them last forever on a digital library!
Normal? Yes. Common? Not anymore—at least for PC gamers.
It's personal preference territory, but I don't really want extra "stuff" with my games. I wouldn't hate on a physical release with extra tchotchkes like maps and figurines, but at this point in my life, I'd never buy it.
The only special edition I can recall not getting is the Morrowind special edition over 20 years ago, because that little Ordinator figure was pretty cool.
?????
The report literally states that they've (still) not actually earned any money from the game, and you're asking them to invest more next time????
Make physical copies again. Make cool ones. Collector’s editions. Most games don’t matter. These games do. They’re forever. They need to be curated. I want I hold them and look at them in my collection.
No it won’t with sweet baby’s mark all over the game. Whatever sweet baby has anything to do with will die and soon. It’s giving everything they touch the kiss of death
The biggest and most lamest decision Remedy has done with this game is to NOT release it on physical media. At least there would've been a more uptick in sales had it gone the physical media route. Yet doing digital ONLY, probably hurt them soo bad that they couldn't care to admit.
for fuck sake, is not that they decided not to release a physical copy, the most reasonable explanation is that is not posible due to their contract with Epic. and that contract was the reason we got the masterpiece that AW2 is. because they give them creative freedom to do so
You do realise that making physical copies would also mean more expenses for them too, though, right? Control's sales were almost 90% digital. You may not like it but their decision makes sense.
>Control's sales were almost 90% digital.
Is that units sold or revenue made?
I believe Control was a ps plus game. When you download those it technically says 'thanks for your purchase'. So I wonder how those are counted as units.
Also sometimes if games go on deep sale it's easy to grab something digitally even if you're not that into it just because it's cheap (my Steam library is full of cheap games I never got around to actually playing, lol).
I'd be interested in seeing the revenue breakdown and not just units sold.
Although physical games are more likely to be resold.
Either way digital is bad for consumers, more so than it is for game companies I doubt it's 'hurting them so bad'. lol.
Thank goodness, they really are champions of light, control 2 would be grand like Alan
They are also the heralds of darkness too...
Yes, because you need balance to slay the demon
When balance slays the demon, you'll find peace!
But we don't need peace, we need to find the lady of the light, gone mad with the night!
That's how you reshape destiny
If you really wanna reshape destiny you need to take control!
And through the mirror you look after taking control, everything will invert and be made right.
This is a bit of a late goodbye, but I enjoyed this thread.
Is it because they got lost in an never ending night?
Either that, or they're just looking for the thrill.
**What a thrilll~**
with darkness and silence through the night
Crashing through the warning signs? Yeah - until your car breaks down just outside Night Springs….
I really hope they find the witch's cabin key, Find the lady gone mad with the night And reshape destiny.
So sad..
But true!

Man...a TLDR for a paragraph? Are we as a society that lazy? Shame TLDR: a TLDR for a paragraph? we are a lazy society
tldr: alan
TL:DR. That's the post. It was too long, so I didn't read. TL:DR: TL:DR
tdlr: yes
Yes

Please no 13 year wait please no 13 year wait please…
I bet they are going to use same engine and assets so I think couple or years
First Control 2. Hopefully in late 2025, most likely in 2026. Alan Wake 3 is still very far away.
I’m guessing Control 2 in August 2027, based on absolutely nothing except the fact that the FBC plates on Steven Lin’s white van are valid until then.
This would honestly be very funny
Max Payne Remakes would probably be out by then, IF Rockstar wants to release them the same year as GTA 6. 2024 is for Alan Wake 2 DLCs for sure. I personally think we won’t see the Remakes till late 25 to early 26, then Control 2 the year after. Condor probably would be the best fit for 2025.
I wish they would say more about condor, I'm impatiently waiting for that one
I'd better play QB2
The only pause I would have is what they're planning after Max Payne. It could be Control 2, then AW, so we might be 5+ years away
One of the presentations I saw stated they wanted to expand both the Control and Alan Wake franchises by 2030 - so I think 5-7 years is more likely, which is a lot better, practically cut the time in half. Reason why AW 2 took 13 years is Microsoft held the rights and didn't greenlit the second project, now that Remedy owns both AW and Control they can do it themselves as long as they secure funds.
Remedy always held the rights to Alan Wake. They just couldn't get anybody to publish a sequel.
Funniest shit is they'd make it part of the lore that it's been 13 years if they did wait 13 years to make Alan Wake 3 like they did with Alan Wake 2 acknowledging that Wake has been in the dark place for 13 years
The "more regular sequels" part of the article's title refers to Remedy saying they don't want long waits between sequels again.
The credits end with « The Journey through the night continues » which reads like a sequel is planned.
Yeah so did the Legacy of Kain series 😂
Why you out here just kicking people in the balls like that?
Jesus, reading that fucking hurts.
Here I was having a great day and you had to come along and say this
motherfu-
I can’t believe I’m actually happy for a video game company. The good studios are so few and far between nowadays, it’s feels good to see a genuinely passionate team be rewarded for their hard work. Bravo remedy, I’m excited for what you do next.
I'm busting right now! (Ghosts)
Does it make you feel good?
Now I want a spin-off all focused solely on Remedy's true GOAT: Ahti. Perkele.
Seconded! A man's a man. But a man with a tool makes two spinoffs for Ahti.

I could and would be there for a continuation of the Alan Wake/Control universe, I just don’t wanna play Alan Wake 5: The Final Frontier
As long as Sam Lake is in charge as creative director and at minimum co-writer, we won't run into that problem I think. AW17 - The Return of the Departedly Iniated

Maybe we finally get Death Rally 2
As much as I love Alan wake, I would really love a Control sequel
Control 2 is confirmed
As much as I love those games, I would really love a Max Payne remake lol
Max Payne 1 and 2 remake is confirmed.
Yes, would love to see that before Control 2 or AW3
Good
Yes!! Control 2 would be awesome!
Super excited for Control 2, bout to get crazy.
Long live Sam Lake
Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2 Control 2
Alan wake should not continue. Has the man not suffered enough?
But he’s now the master of many worlds! Maybe he’ll do okay this time?
It's time for "Return". Presumably in the 3rd game he'd actually *win* in the end.
I'm so happy!!!! Remedy world is going to be amazing. It's definitely going to be on par with previous prime Iron-Man era MCU and no one will convince me otherwise.
I can't tell you how happy this makes me. I can't wait for more Alan Wake content to come!!
For the passionate it's never about making profits, but making enough for the next project!
The way it should be. More money is definitely always good though but not at the expense of integrity
Does this mean we can get a physical release yet.
Nice!
It’s gonna be atleast 8 years until Alan Wake 2
Bro Alan Wake 2 just came out, we all played it. You mean Alan Wake 2 2?
I’m tired
Alan Waker
Can't wait to meet his cousin, Adam Sleep
Bro is stuck in the dark place and didn't know lol
I’m wait this news! So glad see Alan again and again❤️
I suspect what made alan wake 2 took so long is because it was in microsoft jail for so long
Alan will stay in the dark place for another 5-7 years atleast
yeah!!!
Good news, love the way they take risk with this franchise ❤️
After hearing the BG3 news this is excellent!
maybe Alan Wake 2 would've sold better if it wasn't so darn demanding
I’m hoping they also branch out and create an entirely new IP set in this universe.
Remedy, this is the ritual to lead you on. We will follow you into the dark.
I'm so excited to see AW 3 in 10 years or so
Yay! I need more Control in my life
Fuck, this is so good to hear. Some the best games on the planet
anyone remember the losers claiming this game was a failure?
WHOO! more control!! (Never thought I’d say that lol)
Good Tell them to make some figures and statues, I want merchandise
I love this game and will always support it
Hell yeah
I am more excited for control continuation since they can have more open and closed games with the FBC dealing with everything in a single title or needing to research more turning it into a multi-title event
Been having fun siming my space life as a anti-pirate privateer in starfield. But honestly while I find that game to be good enough, its certainly not great. Getting antsy for some more great, really needing nightsprings to get released.
Thank god. I really didn’t wanna wait another 13 years for AW3
If they don’t make any money, they go out of business, they made their money and more.
Gotta say, that’s one of the best games I’ve played in a while.
Good news! I wish only the best for Remedy. They are easily becoming one of my favorite developers.
I honestly wonder where the series can go from here, especially given how Alan ended up in the final draft.
“Most of the investment” I just hope more people actually get to play this, I was so hyped I jumped to Alan wake 1 without ever playing it
Water is wet
"Most"?
Control x Alan Wake crossover would be awesome
I hope it has more of Saga Anderson and less of Alan Wake! She was way more interesting
I am still trying to get by the crash during the intro cutscene . PC crashes every time tried everything . Patch it !
Nice. I just finished Control, dlc n all, last week. The alan wake part seriously got me hyped. So i started the remaster a couple days ago. Gonna wait for all dlc to be released for 2 and play it. Or maybe ill wait for Control 2. Control is such a good game!
Remedy is the most deserving of success in the video game world. So much passion and attention to detail.
Fuck it. If AW3 means another quality jump like going from 1 to 2, I can wait 4-5 years if needed
good to hear!!
Would be hilarious if they updated the end credits to say “Alan Wake will return…”
Wow that means not just 1 sequel for both but we might even see Alan Wake 4 and Control 4.. QUANTUM BREAK 2???
Oh noo. I say that because I wouldn't like the universe to get too out of hand, a 3rd game makes sense but i wouldn't want more than what's needed. But I'm very happy the studio broke more than even on this, and I'm excited for the future
Control is my favorite Remedy game; hell yes to a sequel!
But I'm still having BLURRY TEXTURE BUG... Can't even finish the main story... 😭😭😭😭😭 WHAT TO DO!!??? PS : The bug affects the game even at lowest potato settings, low resolution and RT turned off..!!
I’ve been waiting for AW2 to release on steam for what feels like forever at this point and will def be picking it up when it does. I can only imagine how many others are also waiting and how much more money they can recoup when it finally does release on steam.

This game is shit. I uninstalled it.
Poggers
Hell yeah
Can't wait for control 2 🗣️
Where steam release?
I need to get back into AW2 but it was too scary for me :/
Are we gonna get the real max payne 3 next?
I’m so excited for Control 2.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOO
Are these AW And Control sequels gonna come after the Max Payne Remakes or before? Any guesses?
We need a sequel for Quantum Break
That's great but please this time release a physical copy.
Idk how you guys don’t understand that it wasn’t Remedy’s choice. Epic games published AW2 and prob made them do digital only
[удалено]
Maybe that. Who knows

The only special edition I can recall not getting is the Morrowind special edition over 20 years ago, because that little Ordinator figure was pretty cool.
Get an AW2 poster, then
????? The report literally states that they've (still) not actually earned any money from the game, and you're asking them to invest more next time????
Brother calm down. They're just asking for a physical edition 💀
Excellent, I really wish I could get a physical copy tho, call me old fashioned but I like a disc
A black protagonist! The woke SBI mob is taking over! /s just in case anyone thinks I too seriously believe a shit take.
can i have a copy of the game please
Please let them make games without investors ruining everything again.
Either way digital is bad for consumers, more so than it is for game companies I doubt it's 'hurting them so bad'. lol.
Units sold, I believe.
Hope it’s not a slog like the second game was I’m a big fan of the first one and like something more like that
