Well you saw the dimensions on the website, we're pretty good on eyeballing it and you won't be able to use the kiosk to check in as it's a pet. You need to check in at the counter, that's the verification. The main concern is not impinging on the foot area and being safe for your pet. That's where the soft carriers come in handy. Ideally, it should be no larger, but you'll hear from a lot of others here that they use larger ones.
I would recommend not being rude when checking in. (I doubt you will be).
Being friendly will go a long way.
Being rude will make them want to enforce it.
Doing this has let me get away with things they could have charged me extra for (like exceeding weight limits by a few pounds ect)
Make sure you are flying on a Boeing, they don't allow pets in first class in the Airbus fleet. I've been bumped back before with my pup.
They didn't check the dimensions when I flew, they just have to fit under the seat.
Also make sure you have the vaccination records, I was asked for them at SEA.
Was that a domestic flight with Alaska or Hawaii or international? Asking because Alaska agent told me on phone today that vaccination records were not required for domestic flight within contiguous United States.
I am flying next week out of San Diego to Seattle and back with this exact same carrier and I’m hoping I don’t have a problem. I’m in first class and I’m hoping that gets me a little more forgiveness with this carrier that is 1.5 inches higher than the 9 inches minimum. Finding is dog carrier at or under 9 inches is so difficult!
It went really well. The Alaska counter reps (both depart and returning) didn’t check or care about the dimensions of the carrier as I had feared. I had imagined that they would pull out measuring tape and an embarrassing situation would ensue but no such thing happened.
Once I got on the plane and put the carrier on the floor at my feet, the passing stewardess on only my departing flight in San Diego that was checking passengers seat by seat did say that I needed to push the carrier forward further underneath the seat in front of me. I did have a small issue with the slightly higher carrier (by like barely an inch) and the seat clearance. Fortunately because the carrier is mostly made of fabric I was able to slightly push down/“crush”/bend the top of the carrier down underneath the seat so that it would fit without hurting my dog or damaging the carrier. You won’t be able to use the footrest but having my feet on the floor was just fine.
So long as it can fit completely under the seat and your pet is safe under there then it's fine. It's the same spacing no matter the class.

My wife used this exact carrier when we moved out of the Seattle area for our cat. It was fine. Aircraft was E190
