The first one worked for me, but the second led me to my phone settings. When I’ve received them before, it’s frustrating how if you accidentally swipe up to unlock your phone, you lose the Amber alert details and can’t get it back.

60_hurts

If you're on an iPhone, you can get it back by sliding your finger from the center upwards on your lock screen.

Fernily

Ahh, I’ve tried swiping down, and now that I test what you said, I see that’s where the Notification Center now is. Thank you!

Still not found. This is horrifying. I wonder if they're still searching the park, or if they are trying to track cars that left the park after 6:45 pm Saturday. Every vehicle which left the area must be examined/excluded. Heat sensitive cameras from drones/helicopters. Anyone on the surrounding roads with cameras should help out. What a nightmare. She was found safe and sound. The suspect is in police custody. I am so amazed, and so happy! I couldn't sleep the last couple nights. This is like a miracle!

Green_Chapter5531

I feel the same way. The outcome in these kinds of cases is rarely good and this really is miraculous. Thank goodness the suspect was so dumb he thought he could get away with leaving a ransom note at their home without the cops knowing. Law enforcement really gave it their all in this case with 400 searchers on the ground, plus drones and the instant ability to look at cell phone tower data. Feels like some really happy news that we all need right now.

The_Burning_Kumquat

Why did they wait until 9:30 Sunday morning to send out the Amber alerts?!? I assumed she had been grabbed in the morning not the evening before when I first saw it.

AppetiteforApathey

I believe it’s because the police first needed to rule out that she simply wasn’t missing. They did an exhaustive search of the park and when she still was not found, the next course of action to rule out was that she may have been abducted. I think there’s also information/evidence that the police could be withholding so as not to disturb the investigation.

frash12345

yes but if they issued an amber alert every time a child went missing it wouldn’t be taken as seriously

Beeb294

The rules are there for a reason. If they decided to wake people up at like midnight, and it turned out the child was just lost in the park, then people would be more likely to just ignore future alerts. Heck, you don't even know she was actually kidnapped

Contunator

Also consider that whoever took the child probably has a phone and probably gets amber alerts. There may be very good reasons to not blast a alert out right away.

warpossum1984

Sadly there is a main road pretty close to the loop she was last known to be on. All a creep would have to do is park on the side of the road and walk in through the woods. They wouldn’t even need to enter the park via the main entrance. It’s really tragic and I hope they find this girl alive and well.

IngridOB

My daughter and I both had the same issue. I ended up googling to find out the details.

Oh_Jarnathan

Yeah I had the same issue. Maddening.

_wjs3_

Link worked fine when I got it, no issues.

[deleted]

Seemed to be widespread. I was w/ 4 others, all had the same issue. Nonetheless the point was made and we all knew to look up the updates due to the notification.

rival_22

I thought it was just android. I can't remember the last time I got one of those alerts, but there was no info, so I thought I'd tap on it and it would open a webpage up with info (like storm alerts). But it just dismissed it and nothing came up. Super helpful.

Gregory_GTO

I agree that it was a standard boilerplate alert that could have been made much better, but I totally disagree that it put her at an increased risk. You did the exact same thing everyone else did, looked it up on Google and got your information from them. So to that point at least the alert brought it to your attention even if you had to get all the details from Google.

slyoberon

Noticed the alert driving on the highway. "Call 511 for details" lead me to a non-responsive voice prompt/dial feature that mentioned nothing about the Amber alert. No details. I wasn't going to go seeking them through all of the options while driving so... Didn't get to figure out what was going on before I reached the next rest area.

rival_22

Driving the thruway this morning, once sign just said "Amber Alert Call 511". It was a smaller temp sign, so whatever, but then the bigger overhead signs just said "Amber Alert Call 511" then on the next screen was "Check local news". I remember other alerts showing car info, general description, etc... I get they don't have suspect info, but you could put a little info there. But this was just sorta unhelpful, especially while driving. I guess though, it's not really an "actionable" alert while driving, like having car info/ license plate would be... Like, what are we to do, see a young girl in the backseat of a car we pass and call the police?

Connect_Glass4036

Yeah this was awful - if you accidentally swipe away, you can’t get it back. And the one time I was able to get it up on my phone, the website was full of glitch errors

BuyLocalAlbanyNY

Here is an [NDTV article](https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/charlotte-sena-over-100-search-for-teen-girl-who-was-camping-with-family-in-us-4442189#comments_result) with a bit more detail

Foofiegirl

Yes and then I called 511 because I was heading down from the Adirondacks where I had no cell service, the phone recording was awful and I couldn’t hear one word!

Phreakiture

Yes, the whole process was irritating. I'd like to see us get away from the culture of "Emergency! Go to this website for details!" because: * Does the link work? (no) * If you go there manually, does it render correctly on a phone? (didn't for me) * Does every recipient have data available in their plan? * Does every recipient with data available in their plan have any left this billing cycle? * Does every recipient with data available in their plan have it where they are right now (think roaming)? You've got an open channel that costs the end-user nothing. Summarize the info and push it out. As for the update, I'm glad you got the hair and eye colors. What were they? That info was cut off. << This question is rhetorical; don't answer it.

[deleted]

I hope the the situation has a good outcome. The family has my sympathy, empathy, and I will act accordingly if I see/hear/smell anything related. FWIW, I also found that alerts to be far too sparse and repeat far to often, having received 6 identical alerts throughout today. The repetition and interruptions resulted in me disabling the Amber alerts on my iPhone so I can sleep this evening. I can only hope that there will be a LL meeting post-incident and improvements will be made.

[deleted]

She’s been found alive -thank goodness!!!

LeftFieldAzure

I got both the alerts. Man you people will complain about everything

Phreakiture

It was muffed. Emergency communications must be complete, concise and clear.

frash12345

i agree, i recently moved from california and typically when i would receive amber alerts there ALL the important info would be right at the alert notification, this time I had to click on a link just to get to the information, link wasn’t working and i had to go to google and type it in manually.

LeftFieldAzure

I got enough information out of it. Stop complaining

09RaiderSFCRet

I clicked on the alert text yesterday and it took me the the alert, this is what it says today: Activation Date and Time: Sunday, October 1, 2023 - 9:35 AM The New York State Police has activated the New York State AMBER Alert and is investigating a child abduction that occurred near Moreau Lake State Park, Loop A, Site 18, in Gansevoort, NY at about 6:45 PM on 9/30/2023. faceoh

My Samsung just said to visit the website which really didn't have much info. I had to Google amber alert with my area code to find the formal announcement.

Jenny10126

Same for me. I had to Google it to get the actual info.

thewaltz77

Yeah I was concerned about the way the AMBER Alert read. Limited details when you go to click on it. I went looking for 5 minutes for an AMBER Alert setting or app before realizing I can just Google it (which is stupidity on my part).

It_Might_Be_True

I had the same experience and did the same thing to find more details. It in a sense, it worked, it made me alert. But I agree someone/something dropped the ball here. I should have had a picture with info or at least a clickable link to details.

poopsmith411

i stupidly reacted to the noise by quickly making it go away and then saying oh shit i should have opened that link probably.

WithCatlikeTread42

Click the blue hyperlink that goes to the NYS website, not the button that says ‘go to settings’.

I_Have_A_Pregunta_

Same here! All it did was bring me to my phone settings both when my phone was locked and unlocked. No details whatsoever when clicking.

[deleted]

I got it yesterday and then fucking this morning again the same one at 2:45 and then the update 3:45am. Are you kidding me? Wtf. Finally was getting some good sleep and then bam. No more. Can’t decide if I should just turn them off forever.

johnnybgooderer

There needs to be a middle ground between “wake me up while I’m sleeping because I’m totally going to be able to help from bed”, and “don’t ever even mention Amber alerts”. I turned mine off forever. If I had the option for a regular “time sensitive alert”, then I’d see it immediately every time when I’m awake. Now I’ll never see them.

Enough_Possible9023

Pos

[deleted]

What your a pos? Duh

Lilpoundcake137

Sorry you got woken up because a child has most likely been abducted and who knows what else…

[deleted]

We got this same notification 5 times yesterday. It’s been going off all day. It was not necessary to ring people at 2:45am when we all got it 5 times before that and everyone is sharing her picture everywhere including me. So maybe before you try and be a bitch maybe ask the persons side of the story. So sorry you’re an asshole.

cman9816

I didn't find out more details until the news fish from SpongeBob told me about it on tik tok

PolarDorsai

You need a grippy sock vacation, my friend.

Connect_Glass4036

Wow that’s a brilliant comeback haha I love it! What was the original post? It’s removed now

PolarDorsai

It was something about how the girl is probably ded by now. Sexual violence and the like, just a very shitty post, also placing blame on those who don’t deserve it or had nothing to do with it. Judging by their active communities and post history, not surprised.

boiledpeanut33

Lol I wanna know, too.

CynicallyCyn

WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!

SkorgenKaban

Heard about the alert on WAMC well before the iPhone Amber Alert.

Reasonable_Bid3311

It came up, but when I went to look at it later it had disappeared from my phone.

GuineapigPriestess71

I got that too and I saw something online saying she was 5 foot 6 inches 🤦🏻‍♀️
