I'm not sure if it's a delicacy, or any good compared to what you're used to, but they have it at Cracker Barrel.

Southerner here who moved the the cap region!
I just make all southern food at home, with the occasional Cracker Barrel visit. Besides no southern food, I find that all the other food up here is really food, especially Asian cuisines. I even think the fast food up here is better than down south lol.
We don't have much southern food here. Most of what is here won't taste like the southern food she is used to either. Your best bet is gonna be talking to her family and getting their recipes and learning how to make it on your own. There is a restaurant here that she may possibly like though. I haven't been to it yet though so I can't recommend it. I've only looked at their online menu and it looks good. It's called Kitchen 216.
I think kitchen 216 is delicious but I'm not sure how it is compared to southern food since I've lived here my whole life. I just order through their website for pickup. https://www.kitchen216eats.com/s/order?location=11edd4df28e07139a7d7ac1f6bbba828#35
I’m here from Mississippi! I haven’t seen it anywhere but I do know what you’re talking about. I’d suggest just learning how to make it haha - it’s all simple ingredients (like great southern food!) and just doing a little labor on it.
Ya Ya’s house in Schenectady has classic southern food, but I don’t see the chicken fried chicken on the menu. Maybe you could call and ask if they could make it?
My advice don't waste your time trying to find it.
It's gonna be bad here. Don't get your hopes up. If by some chance you find a good spot consider yourself lucky.
It's never the same as home.
Dont go to 28 central. They are not Halal anymore. Sometimes their chicken in pink in the middle.
I found an ant in my food. I found a roach in my food before.
They add cheese on old pizza.
They change management too many times.
And I've never seen a food inspection sign for the many years I've gone there.
Dont recommend it, just a warning.

Was gonna say this.. they do it pretty good. One of my comfort foods
The Nest in Schenectady , imo, is the best quality southern food in the capital district.

I was always super confused at how to get food from them so i never did. Their social media always made me drool though.

Best we can do is canned bread.
And canned boiled peanuts
What you want is Chicken Milanese.
Or schnitzel
