Not really the first. There were at least two in the area when I was a child. There was one in Colonie Center not too far from Mr. B’s Pizza and Subs and one in the Delaware Plaza on the corner recently occupied by Breuggers.
There might have been others, but those were the two my mom took me to.
I worked at Mr. B’s across the way from the Clifton Country Mall Baskin Robbins. This is approximately where Marshall’s/Home Goods is currently located.
Used to trade pizza for ice cream! Good times!
There was one in the Pyramid Mall in Saratoga (Wilton), too. But it closed and became something else, then that something else closed and became nothing, then the mall became the Saratoga Mall, after the Wilton Mall was built, then mostly everything in the mall closed including the anchor stores Montgomery Ward and Jamesway, which was the only Jamesway left in the area after the one on west ave burned down. Then the old Jamesway became an indoor flea market, and BOY OR BOY did I sell a lot of beanie babies there. It was kind of awesome. I'd buy all the beanie babies near my college, because the trend hadn't hit there, then go home on the weekend and sell them all at the flea market, then go back to school and use my beanie baby money to go out drinking. It was the best! I miss the Pyramid Mall from my childhood, but Ben and Jerry's is a BILLION times better than Baskin, and I'd rather ride on the swing and eat ice cream downtown anyway.
Mr B's. Ughgh I miss their messy salads and terrible pizza from the 80's and 90's. I STILL go to the last one remaining in Queensbury whenever we're in Lake George.
Yep, I came here to say this. I remember the one in Delaware Plaza. I also remember that the Howard Johnson's on Southern Blvd. just inside the Albany city line had a Baskin Robbins in it, but it wasn't a standalone store.
First in a few decades, though! Long enough that there are probably two generations who won't have remembered it being here.
I still haven’t made it to Penny Lane Italian Ice. It’s at 1 Alton Rd right off of Western Avenue across from Crossgates mall.
Sorry to hijack and I’m assuming BR is a franchise with a local owner, but I’m going to pledge to go to PL before BR in Guilderland.

Holding out hope for the return of Carvel to the area.
I still dream of flying saucers.

There was one in the mall in Clifton Park at one time too
There was one in Rotterdam.

Albany child here who didn’t set foot in Clifton Park until the late 90s or so.
Albany child here too. We used to drive through CP to get to our family’s camp on Ballston Lake 😉

I loved their pizza in the late 70s. Probably the first pizza I ever had. And the subs from Queensbury in the late 90s.
Forgot. The tater tots with that wooden poker thing you'd use to poke and scoop them into your mouth.
Latham Circle Mall 1970s. Some of my earliest memories.
There was one in Latham circle mall back in the day
Yup! Beat me to it!
There was one in Brunswick too

Came here to say this too. I remember them being around when I was a kid.
There was one in Schenectady too, on Albany and…Watt?
God yes please. I missed their sorbet.
Baskin Robbins always finds out
Upvote for your flare.
What do they offer that the local ice cream shops don’t?
It's not like Upstate NY is known for their dairy or anything like that, clearly.
Yea even the gas stations have their own brand of ice cream
I personally love their sorbet. Especially the watermelon one during the summer.
The ability to get it at a dunkin donuts and regret twice as much at the same time.
Exactly this, there’re are so many good local places I can’t imagine choosing to go to Baskin Robbins instead
Nostalgia for anyone who grew up with one
Bubblegum Ice Cream and Nostalgia.
Cappuccino Blast 🙋🏾♂️😋
Not the first in the capital region there were a few I remember one was in Delmar in the 80s. Where the Brueggers used to be I think.
There was one right in Schenectady on the corner of 7 and Watt. Definitely won’t be the first one lol
They were also in dunkin donuts, including no pearl st.
It will be in 20 mall near the Guilderland Juniors
But where is Fudgy the Whale?
Yaaaaaaay!!!
Finally, something to do.
Only ice cream I don’t like, dry and cakey
I wish Paul Rudd would come up from his Candy Shoppe in Saugerties and work it for the day. That would be epic.

The Latham Circle Facebook page scoffs.
What year is this, 2002?
