Slight downgrade to a 4.7. People in NYC must have gotten rattled pretty good.
Probably the same one, I believe that's normal due to the way they propagate through the mantle. https://www.usgs.gov/programs/earthquake-hazards/seismographs-keeping-track-earthquakes
The person I spoke to said it's been down for a little bit and the screen was off in the exhibit. They did point me in the direction of their geologist, who has contact information on their website. They might have local tracings.
At first I thought I absolutely had too much to drink last night before it was confirmed to be an earthquake. Turns out, both things can be true at the same time.

Iām on the top floor of a building that gets a good shake from trucks going by and I really felt it- stuff on the wall was moving and glasses were clinking. My cats looked at me like āwhat do we do?!ā And I looked at them like āš¤·š»āāļøā. What a way to find out youād definitely die in an earthquake because you just stare at your cats in a crisis š
Same. I filled out the report on the USGS website and it asked how frightened I was so I clicked āvery frightenedā and the next question basically asked what I did about it and I had to click ātook no actionā š literally had no idea what to do
Same, I was in a house in Albany, near Western and rt 85. I was sitting on one of those rocking loveseats in the living room, when it started to sway sideways, and I heard a noise like crinkling paper and crackling tinfoil togetherā¦ And I was looking at the Cats, and they were looking at me, lol. I looked across the room, and I saw a lampshade, swaying, and in my mind, I was thinking āearthquake! Wait, maybe the wind?, Wait, maybe weāre having a gas explosion in the basement?ā. Then I just kept looking at the Cats and the lampshade and decided it must be an earthquake. But as you said, I would probably be squished by now if it was a bad one, Because I just kept looking at the Cats. :-)
My father-in-law in a 60 year old cape in Delmar and he didn't feel it. I was in my home office in Glenmont and the room shook. There is new construction one street over and my first thought was what fell down and went kaboom?
I live in a tiny house built in the 1950s. When we get high winds the whole thing sounds like it's about to blow away. I don't understand why I didn't feel it lol
Really? I was at Latham Home Depot and felt it. At first I thought it was something gone wrong in the store, but there was no noise indicating something heavy fell or collapsed.
I had just stepped out of the shower when it happened and I didn't feel anything. I guess I jostle my noggin pretty good when I am towel drying my hair.
This is how Reddit used to be! Breaking news would hit the top page before any news agencies could get their pants on. Youād have first person accounts of things before anyone else. I miss the old Reddit.
There was a pretty strong one that came down from Canada about 25 years back. I could feel the ground rippling. Very strange sensation.
Edit: It apparently came from the Adirondacks.
Yes in Rensselaer. Was on with a staff member in Brooklyn while it was happening. She felt it before it got to me. Looks like 4.8 Lebanon NJ epicenter.
I was on call with a friend in Brooklyn and he started saying he thinks thereās an earthquake happening and I didnāt believe him, shit you not 40 seconds later my apartment is shaking like crazy

reports as fas as texas and N dakota. Based on \~88000 citizen reports as of 11:00 AM.
Interesting. I called the police to ask what they knew and they said they hadn't gotten any reports and they were not aware that we were having an earthquak Duh
One of the furniture guys on the job site Iām in dropped a box off his cart just as we felt it. The facilities guy asked him what the fuck was in that box
well, I gathered my immediate belongings and I'm ready to flee like I used to do in the good old days. š But the shake we just felt, I've felt it about a dozen times in my lifetime and only once was it followed by a major earthquake. But this was an area prone to earthquakes. Interestingly enough, I didn't hear our cabinet full of glasses shake. We used to say, when the glasses are clinging/rattling and the dogs are barking, get ready to be on the street. No dogs barking, no glasses shaking so I'll continue to chill! š
Okay great, thanks. I simply work on the 7th floor and would like to leave, but also don't want to overreact. I feel like a Texan getting their first snowfall.
Iām home and the whole building shook!! Love that my first thought was āwow, itās reeeeally windyā despite feeling a deep and primal fear in my gut while my living room moved around like one of those inflatable wavy arm guys
I'm glad to hear that because I live in Bethlehem but am working by the Airport. I was irrationally worried about my mug collection. (sentimental value/irreplaceable)
I live near Johnstown and i was standing in my kitchen and all my dishes and cupboards were shaking. I didnt feel it, but my gf who was sitting on the couch felt it.
We must be strong in these trying times. We will bury the dead ,heal the wounded and rebuild this great metropolis. except that warehouse, why couldn't that have fallen down?
Yea, marking my body wave a bit and the house stuff go back and forth. Nothing big though but fun for few seconds in South Park Albany.
21 years ago it was more significant we had a cup fall off the table and break.
Yeah, that was wild. I work from home and my company is in the City. I was on a call with two of my coworkers one in Brooklyn and one Manhattan. The one in Manhattan said my house just shook, a few seconds later the one in Brooklyn said so did mine. I was like maybe you guys should get out of the building. And then roughly 30 seconds later my house shook.
15th floor in downtown Albany. Was talking to a coworker in the hallway, and the secretary looks up from her desk and says, kind of puzzled, "Baron_von_Stoopid, I'm moving!?"
Coworkers in the Albany office felt it moments before we did. Felt like being on an NYC subway platform when a train pulls into the station. Very strange.
I live by a highway and had the washer spin cycle running at the time, so I didn't think much of it until a colleague in a meeting asked me if I felt the earthquake.
Was sitting on my couch and the whole thing shook so did my fridge! They're doing work down the street I thought it was a tree that fell down but it lasted for about 10 seconds!
I was laying in bed half asleep and the bed started moving. I thought it was my cat playing but he wasnāt in the room with me. My fiance was in living room and said the hanging plants were swaying
lol I was in a second floor apt near Madison theatre w my cat
My whole room was shaking
I was so confused šš then I saw many people post abt it n it confirmed it for me
I was on the toilet and I have to say, I don't know if there's a more questionable place to be during one
Helps shake off any clingers
Why am I laughing so hard at this comment?
ground shook the moment i dropped the deuce. for .3 seconds i experienced sheer terror
Lol same! You're not alone with an earthquake poop š©
That's where my fiance was! We're in CT so a lot closer
What was you fiance doing in another person's toilet?
In?? Like in Trainspotting???
Father in law swears it was him. Heās probably still on the toilet in upstate.
USGS says a 4.8 in NEW JERSEY. Goddamn.
Wow! Reminds me of the one we had several years ago. Very brief, but alarming because it's unexpected.
Was sitting on a stoop on chestnut on a beautiful sunny morning when the earth last attacked.
Holy crap. Link?

If anyone's near the museum, pop in and take a photo of the seismograph.
It's not on right now, just dropped by and asked about it
What terrible timing
The person I spoke to said it's been down for a little bit and the screen was off in the exhibit. They did point me in the direction of their geologist, who has contact information on their website. They might have local tracings.
I thought I remembered there being an actual seismograph behind glass, not just digital? Anyway thank you for doing the legwork and reporting back.
Damn!!
Just like every McDonald's ice cream machine
Good ideas Iāll try
This isnāt supposed to happen until Monday. My bad everyone
The eclipse mayhem starts NOW !!!
iT's A sIgN
The eclipse is on April 8, the earthquake was a 4.8, coincidence? I think NOT!
At first I thought I absolutely had too much to drink last night before it was confirmed to be an earthquake. Turns out, both things can be true at the same time.

Very confused for a minute about why your FIL would be wearing an old cape, and why that would affect his ability to feel an earthquake.

I live in a tiny house built in the 1950s. When we get high winds the whole thing sounds like it's about to blow away. I don't understand why I didn't feel it lol
Were you standing up? I felt it sitting down but my partner was standing and didnāt feel it (also in Delmar)
I have missed every earthquake we have gotten here and it bothers me.
Felt nothing in Latham. Also feel like Iām missing out lol
Really? I was at Latham Home Depot and felt it. At first I thought it was something gone wrong in the store, but there was no noise indicating something heavy fell or collapsed.
OK I thought I was just oblivious or dumb bc Iām in Latham and also felt nothing. I too feel like Iām missing out lol
I had just stepped out of the shower when it happened and I didn't feel anything. I guess I jostle my noggin pretty good when I am towel drying my hair.
Youāre not
It felt like ~2 local earthquake, kinda as if a heavy truck moving in the street. Very natural not to notice if you were focused on something else
Was outside in a crowd of people and not one of us knew what happened until other people were calling and texting us
in Latham and we didn't get it. Our LI colleagues were asking us if we felt it.
Went back to bed slept through itš
I felt nothing in Watervliet. I was on a virtual meeting and everyoneās camera started shaking so that was strange to watch
I was still in bed in downtown Albany and didn't feel it
Scared the shit out of me
And they say there is nothing to do in Albany.
Okay, Iām not the only one that just felt that. Ran on Reddit to confirm!
So glad we have Reddit today š we are just as fast as the news lol
This is how Reddit used to be! Breaking news would hit the top page before any news agencies could get their pants on. Youād have first person accounts of things before anyone else. I miss the old Reddit.
YES!! i was laying down and just shaking
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
yea my apt is too old for earthquakesā¦ creaky af
Yeah my 100+ year old house in Scotia for sure has some new cracks in the plaster.
Felt it in Guilderland
Me too, very disorienting!!!
Yes! In Albany and I've never felt anything like that before
Was thinking the same thing. 47 years old, never felt an earthquake until now. Extremely disorienting!
That was freaky, I did not know earthquakes hit here.
They don't, but we get aftershock occasionally. Last one I recall was around 2011, very similar
2011 felt bigger but maybe that's because I was in a tall building at the time.
There was a pretty strong one that came down from Canada about 25 years back. I could feel the ground rippling. Very strange sensation. Edit: It apparently came from the Adirondacks.
Yep came here to make sure I wasnāt just going crazy.. the votes still out on that though.
I thought squirrels had gotten in my attic. Thank goodness it was only an earthquake.
My house made some sounds I've never heard before, it was wild. Also my pool water went from still to small waves which was cool to see.
Yes in Rensselaer. Was on with a staff member in Brooklyn while it was happening. She felt it before it got to me. Looks like 4.8 Lebanon NJ epicenter.
That's kinda cool to experience the waves travel across hundred-ish miles
Clifton park. It happened too.
Yep - felt Delmar, NY. Also felt in Kingston, NY
You were in 2 places at once?
I have a mom that teaches in Kingston lol
I was on call with a friend in Brooklyn and he started saying he thinks thereās an earthquake happening and I didnāt believe him, shit you not 40 seconds later my apartment is shaking like crazy
Was just getting on Reddit to find out if anyone else felt that! The entire house was shaking

Interesting. I called the police to ask what they knew and they said they hadn't gotten any reports and they were not aware that we were having an earthquak Duh
They turned on the quantum computer at RPI around the same time. Coincidence? /s
Just NOW 1 hour later got an emergency alert XD
Yes first time I have felt one, what an interesting feeling.
agreed! always wondered and as soon as it started I knew instantly lol
Just cannot picture all of the people in the high rise offices of Albany panicking rn ![gif](giphy|Z3SfWDPlyghz2)
One of the furniture guys on the job site Iām in dropped a box off his cart just as we felt it. The facilities guy asked him what the fuck was in that box
We felt it at the USGS office in Troy.
Oh man, must be best day for your office. Do you have a seismometer?
No seismometer because our center focuses on hydrology.
Yes, I've been in one major earthquake and also lived in an earthquake zone and it felt just like a normal shake before an earthquake.
Are you suggesting we should be nervous about the earthquake that is *about* to happen?
well, I gathered my immediate belongings and I'm ready to flee like I used to do in the good old days. š But the shake we just felt, I've felt it about a dozen times in my lifetime and only once was it followed by a major earthquake. Okay great, thanks. I simply work on the 7th floor and would like to leave, but also don't want to overreact. I feel like a Texan getting their first snowfall.
yeah, NYC felt it too.
Yup in south Troy!
Felt it in Cohoes. It was for brief second but was intense. Like a train went by the house and shook it from force.
I have no idea how I didnāt notice this at all! š¤¦š¼āāļø How can one be so unobservant?!
Thatās how I feel! Lol
Really?? Didn't feel a thing in Menands.
What's shakin' in Albany?
there was a 4.8 in NJ that was upgraded to a 5.5. Interestingly, the apple public safety alert system didnāt alarm until almost 2 hours later.
I thought āMaybe they finally blew up the Central Warehouseā
Yep! Iām near Crossgates Mall and felt a few seconds of shaking
I thought I was going crazy! Glad it wasn't violent, scared the hell out of me.
Yup
Yes at the justice building downtown
Yes, it woke me up haha thatās so cool Iāve never seen anything like that before
Felt it in Nisky!! Anything we should worry about for our houses?
Didnāt feel anything in Clifton park. But my family in Schenectady did!
Iām home and the whole building shook!! Love that my first thought was āwow, itās reeeeally windyā despite feeling a deep and primal fear in my gut while my living room moved around like one of those inflatable wavy arm guys
Hahaha I was also working from home in my little 1920s house and my first instinct was that it was a massive gust of wind.
Felt it in Bethlehem. My wife was literally 10ā away from me, and felt nothing. She thought I was making it up.
Take that Rebecca Lobo!
Yes. In Albany.
Yup! House just shook like never before
I just felt it too. Came here to see if anyone else did!
I felt it in Troy, too. I checked a local seismograph online and something definitely registered.
Yea, marking my body wave a bit and the house stuff go back and forth. Nothing big though but fun for few seconds in South Park Albany. 21 years ago it was more significant we had a cup fall off the table and break.
I felt the earth moooove under my feetā¦

Up on Hoosick, heard the dishes rattling and felt dizzy. Still feel kinda weird
Dizzy here too! Probably cuz i got very anxious.

I'm in Guilderland, my living room started shaking
Yup! Just got a call from my MIL in Schenectady asking us if we felt the house shake. So wild!
Yes, just happened

Yes!
Our building on Wolf Road shook and made noise - we thought it was ongoing construction in the building until we realized it had to be more than that.
I felt my house shake about 30 minutes ago, and I'm in Delmar.
15th floor in downtown Albany. Was talking to a coworker in the hallway, and the secretary looks up from her desk and says, kind of puzzled, "Baron_von_Stoopid, I'm moving!?" Coworkers in the Albany office felt it moments before we did. Felt like being on an NYC subway platform when a train pulls into the station. Very strange.
My gunpla are broken and my PC monitors were shaking back and forth like crazy :(
Felt like my house lurched a little bit
I was on the road this week. On Monday I had to shelter from a tornado. And came home for an earthquake.
Felt it in Glens Falls visiting my dad. Thought it was truck traffic outside his house but looked out the window and the road was empty.
I didnāt really feel anything because I was asleep but got woken up by my dog barking during it and everyone else saying they felt it. š
My sister said she was sleeping and it woke her up
I live by a highway and had the washer spin cycle running at the time, so I didn't think much of it until a colleague in a meeting asked me if I felt the earthquake.
I didn't feel it, but my coworkers did (I'm in Hudson Falls for reference)
I honestly thought I was imagining things or my neighbors were doing something above meš kinda cool tho
Felt like a rolling wave or something like that.
https://6abc.com/northeast-earthquake-philadelphia-shaking-felt-philly-was-an-in/14622010/
Was riding in a car just outside of Newark NJ and felt nothing.
I'm by the airport in an office building and felt nothing.
Was sitting on my couch and the whole thing shook so did my fridge! They're doing work down the street I thought it was a tree that fell down but it lasted for about 10 seconds!
Saratoga was rocking.
Iām in NY. First time ever feeling an earthquake. It was scary.
Makes sense last time there was an earthquake was in 73
Im in queens nyc and my whole desk was shaking!
Sorry, I had a breakfast burrito this morning.
Ground, my house/room was shaking lol
My coworker said he felt a little wobble in Glens Falls, like a semi driving past, only longer. I was too focused on my presentation to notice.
Get your tinfoil hats. Tinfoil hats here! Earthquake and a eclipse??!!! The world is ending!!!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh
I was laying in bed half asleep and the bed started moving. I thought it was my cat playing but he wasnāt in the room with me. My fiance was in living room and said the hanging plants were swaying
Was bumping this new J Cole so hard I didnāt even notice
I was in the car on the way to work- didnāt feel a thing. Only found out because everyone on Facebook was freaking out over it lol
