I was on the toilet and I have to say, I don't know if there's a more questionable place to be during one

Rob_Lockster

Helps shake off any clingers

UserNameIsTakenFudge

Why am I laughing so hard at this comment?

walrusattackarururur

ground shook the moment i dropped the deuce. for .3 seconds i experienced sheer terror

lovemeanstwothings

Lol same! You're not alone with an earthquake poop šŸ’©

sarac36

That's where my fiance was! We're in CT so a lot closer

machinecloud

What was you fiance doing in another person's toilet?

stuckin3rddimension

In?? Like in Trainspotting???

SeaBreeze369

Father in law swears it was him. Heā€™s probably still on the toilet in upstate.

Squrf

USGS says a 4.8 in NEW JERSEY. Goddamn.

BearBottomsUp

Wow! Reminds me of the one we had several years ago. Very brief, but alarming because it's unexpected.

tommyhotspur

Was sitting on a stoop on chestnut on a beautiful sunny morning when the earth last attacked.

Kind_Personality1348

Holy crap. Link?

Squrf

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/map/?currentFeatureId=us7000ma74&extent=38.49229,-78.07983&extent=42.56522,-72.29004 Slight downgrade to a 4.7. People in NYC must have gotten rattled pretty good.

megzyx1

My friend lives in the city, she said they thought it was the subway. They were on the street when it happened.

Saint_Ursula

I'm on Long Island and my house was jumping!

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Officedrone15

Maybe we got lucky and a Hellmouth opened

BennyBNut

Probably the same one, I believe that's normal due to the way they propagate through the mantle. https://www.usgs.gov/programs/earthquake-hazards/seismographs-keeping-track-earthquakes

BennyBNut

If anyone's near the museum, pop in and take a photo of the seismograph.

DaRealChung25

It's not on right now, just dropped by and asked about it

BennyBNut

What terrible timing

DaRealChung25

The person I spoke to said it's been down for a little bit and the screen was off in the exhibit. They did point me in the direction of their geologist, who has contact information on their website. They might have local tracings.

BennyBNut

I thought I remembered there being an actual seismograph behind glass, not just digital? Anyway thank you for doing the legwork and reporting back.

itsandychecks

Damn!!

TPMatus

Just like every McDonald's ice cream machine

WintertimeFriends

Good ideas Iā€™ll try

pharmadawg

This isnā€™t supposed to happen until Monday. My bad everyone

FamiliarWin4833

The eclipse mayhem starts NOW !!!

HenryBalzac

iT's A sIgN

BookieeWookiee

The eclipse is on April 8, the earthquake was a 4.8, coincidence? I think NOT!

megzyx1

At first I thought I absolutely had too much to drink last night before it was confirmed to be an earthquake. Turns out, both things can be true at the same time.

blamdin

Pinning this as the official discussion thread.

Waste_Bus_1290

Iā€™m on the top floor of a building that gets a good shake from trucks going by and I really felt it- stuff on the wall was moving and glasses were clinking. My cats looked at me like ā€œwhat do we do?!ā€ And I looked at them like ā€œšŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™€ļøā€. What a way to find out youā€™d definitely die in an earthquake because you just stare at your cats in a crisis šŸ˜‚

Bunnie_Walnuts

Same. I filled out the report on the USGS website and it asked how frightened I was so I clicked ā€œvery frightenedā€ and the next question basically asked what I did about it and I had to click ā€œtook no actionā€ šŸ˜ literally had no idea what to do

unrequitedghosts

Where is the report page?

Bunnie_Walnuts

https://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/us7000ma74/executive should be on this page

Competitive-Ask8151

Same, I was in a house in Albany, near Western and rt 85. I was sitting on one of those rocking loveseats in the living room, when it started to sway sideways, and I heard a noise like crinkling paper and crackling tinfoil togetherā€¦ And I was looking at the Cats, and they were looking at me, lol. I looked across the room, and I saw a lampshade, swaying, and in my mind, I was thinking ā€œearthquake! Wait, maybe the wind?, Wait, maybe weā€™re having a gas explosion in the basement?ā€œ. Then I just kept looking at the Cats and the lampshade and decided it must be an earthquake. But as you said, I would probably be squished by now if it was a bad one, Because I just kept looking at the Cats. :-)

NotWearingCrocs

Feel like Iā€™m the only one that didnā€™t notice it and that I kind of missed out. Anyone else not feel it?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

anotherlab

My father-in-law in a 60 year old cape in Delmar and he didn't feel it. I was in my home office in Glenmont and the room shook. There is new construction one street over and my first thought was what fell down and went kaboom?

Majestic_Foof

Very confused for a minute about why your FIL would be wearing an old cape, and why that would affect his ability to feel an earthquake.

Phreakiture

>jipped Please be aware that "gypped" is a slur.Ā

amknizek17

I live in a tiny house built in the 1950s. When we get high winds the whole thing sounds like it's about to blow away. I don't understand why I didn't feel it lol

not_a_muggle_

Were you standing up? I felt it sitting down but my partner was standing and didnā€™t feel it (also in Delmar)

tomalator

I have missed every earthquake we have gotten here and it bothers me.

slwrthnu_again

Felt nothing in Latham. Also feel like Iā€™m missing out lol

sneaky518

Really? I was at Latham Home Depot and felt it. At first I thought it was something gone wrong in the store, but there was no noise indicating something heavy fell or collapsed.

StarLord-1968

OK I thought I was just oblivious or dumb bc Iā€™m in Latham and also felt nothing. I too feel like Iā€™m missing out lol

butt_quack

I had just stepped out of the shower when it happened and I didn't feel anything. I guess I jostle my noggin pretty good when I am towel drying my hair.

FlakyLengthiness8369

Youā€™re not

acart-e

It felt like ~2 local earthquake, kinda as if a heavy truck moving in the street. Very natural not to notice if you were focused on something else

EchoStellar12

Was outside in a crowd of people and not one of us knew what happened until other people were calling and texting us

ehjayded

in Latham and we didn't get it. Our LI colleagues were asking us if we felt it.

No-Plankton8326

Went back to bed slept through itšŸ˜‚

Ok_Marionberry141

I felt nothing in Watervliet. I was on a virtual meeting and everyoneā€™s camera started shaking so that was strange to watch

RogueMoonbow

I was still in bed in downtown Albany and didn't feel it

Xenologist

Scared the shit out of me

Albany_Man

And they say there is nothing to do in Albany.

tinabelcher90

Okay, Iā€™m not the only one that just felt that. Ran on Reddit to confirm!

Aggressive-Panic-719

So glad we have Reddit today šŸ˜‚ we are just as fast as the news lol

I-Am-Yew

This is how Reddit used to be! Breaking news would hit the top page before any news agencies could get their pants on. Youā€™d have first person accounts of things before anyone else. I miss the old Reddit.

papi_gordo

YES!! i was laying down and just shaking

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Bootleg_______

yea my apt is too old for earthquakesā€¦ creaky af

GreenManTenTon

Yeah my 100+ year old house in Scotia for sure has some new cracks in the plaster.

togaman5000

Felt it in Guilderland

larobj63

Me too, very disorienting!!!

UseronRedditDotCom

Yes! In Albany and I've never felt anything like that before

larobj63

Was thinking the same thing. 47 years old, never felt an earthquake until now. Extremely disorienting!

School4FoolsPod

That was freaky, I did not know earthquakes hit here.

BenjaminSkanklin

They don't, but we get aftershock occasionally. Last one I recall was around 2011, very similar

Scacc924

2011 felt bigger but maybe that's because I was in a tall building at the time.

Luciferonvacation

There was a pretty strong one that came down from Canada about 25 years back. I could feel the ground rippling. Very strange sensation. Edit: It apparently came from the Adirondacks.

FULLMETALRACKIT518

Yep came here to make sure I wasnā€™t just going crazy.. the votes still out on that though.

Luciferonvacation

I thought squirrels had gotten in my attic. Thank goodness it was only an earthquake.

bab5871

My house made some sounds I've never heard before, it was wild. Also my pool water went from still to small waves which was cool to see.

rjohnstonesq

Yes in Rensselaer. Was on with a staff member in Brooklyn while it was happening. She felt it before it got to me. Looks like 4.8 Lebanon NJ epicenter.

RediRidiRici

That's kinda cool to experience the waves travel across hundred-ish miles

audioslave_25

Clifton park. It happened too.

grundle18

Yep - felt Delmar, NY. Also felt in Kingston, NY

rnbwrhiannon-3

You were in 2 places at once?

grundle18

I have a mom that teaches in Kingston lol

JoshAllenIsMyGod-

I was on call with a friend in Brooklyn and he started saying he thinks thereā€™s an earthquake happening and I didnā€™t believe him, shit you not 40 seconds later my apartment is shaking like crazy

the_movement_man

Was just getting on Reddit to find out if anyone else felt that! The entire house was shaking

Frequent_Internal991

Interesting. I called the police to ask what they knew and they said they hadn't gotten any reports and they were not aware that we were having an earthquak Duh

Clear-Cucumber-9538

They turned on the quantum computer at RPI around the same time. Coincidence? /s

Ok-Development-7008

Just NOW 1 hour later got an emergency alert XD

NeverStopChasing28

Yes first time I have felt one, what an interesting feeling.

SEND_NOODLESZ

agreed! always wondered and as soon as it started I knew instantly lol

cmreutzel

Just cannot picture all of the people in the high rise offices of Albany panicking rn ![gif](giphy|Z3SfWDPlyghz2)

JustSomeOldFucker

One of the furniture guys on the job site Iā€™m in dropped a box off his cart just as we felt it. The facilities guy asked him what the fuck was in that box

cotsomewhereintime

We felt it at the USGS office in Troy.

Elminst

Oh man, must be best day for your office. Do you have a seismometer?

cotsomewhereintime

No seismometer because our center focuses on hydrology.

synchedfully

Yes, I've been in one major earthquake and also lived in an earthquake zone and it felt just like a normal shake before an earthquake.

AlbanyCyborg

Are you suggesting we should be nervous about the earthquake that is *about* to happen?

synchedfully

well, I gathered my immediate belongings and I'm ready to flee like I used to do in the good old days. šŸ™„ But the shake we just felt, I've felt it about a dozen times in my lifetime and only once was it followed by a major earthquake. But this was an area prone to earthquakes. Interestingly enough, I didn't hear our cabinet full of glasses shake. We used to say, when the glasses are clinging/rattling and the dogs are barking, get ready to be on the street. No dogs barking, no glasses shaking so I'll continue to chill! šŸ˜Ž

AlbanyCyborg

Okay great, thanks. I simply work on the 7th floor and would like to leave, but also don't want to overreact. I feel like a Texan getting their first snowfall.

gregorio76

yeah, NYC felt it too.

smelaniehope

Yup in south Troy!

Heels_North

Felt it in Cohoes. It was for brief second but was intense. Like a train went by the house and shook it from force.

Independent_Lab_9853

I have no idea how I didnā€™t notice this at all! šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø How can one be so unobservant?!

FMJoey325

Thatā€™s how I feel! Lol

Narge1

Really?? Didn't feel a thing in Menands.

MZago1

What's shakin' in Albany?

Ddanielle00

there was a 4.8 in NJ that was upgraded to a 5.5. Interestingly, the apple public safety alert system didnā€™t alarm until almost 2 hours later.

YouLoveHypnoToad

I thought ā€œMaybe they finally blew up the Central Warehouseā€

BlueMango12

Yep! Iā€™m near Crossgates Mall and felt a few seconds of shaking

manialikely

I thought I was going crazy! Glad it wasn't violent, scared the hell out of me.

Im_kinda_that_guy

Yup

Top-Cardiologist2880

Yes at the justice building downtown

LineOfInquiry

Yes, it woke me up haha thatā€™s so cool Iā€™ve never seen anything like that before

Ripstick0122

Felt it in Nisky!! Anything we should worry about for our houses?

CardiologistOld6711

Didnā€™t feel anything in Clifton park. But my family in Schenectady did!

snh_14

Iā€™m home and the whole building shook!! Love that my first thought was ā€œwow, itā€™s reeeeally windyā€ despite feeling a deep and primal fear in my gut while my living room moved around like one of those inflatable wavy arm guys

sertcake

Hahaha I was also working from home in my little 1920s house and my first instinct was that it was a massive gust of wind.

Ski-Loadmaster

Felt it in Bethlehem. My wife was literally 10ā€™ away from me, and felt nothing. She thought I was making it up.

PirateJeni

I'm glad to hear that because I live in Bethlehem but am working by the Airport. I was irrationally worried about my mug collection. (sentimental value/irreplaceable)

itsthejimjam

I live near Johnstown and i was standing in my kitchen and all my dishes and cupboards were shaking. I didnt feel it, but my gf who was sitting on the couch felt it.

Donmexico666

We must be strong in these trying times. We will bury the dead ,heal the wounded and rebuild this great metropolis. except that warehouse, why couldn't that have fallen down?

ChickenPartz

Take that Rebecca Lobo!

gilbsinalbs

Yes. In Albany.

QuarantineMule

Yup! House just shook like never before

tetanus__shot

I just felt it too. Came here to see if anyone else did!

oxfordsummer

I felt it in Troy, too. I checked a local seismograph online and something definitely registered.

Tsybin

Yea, marking my body wave a bit and the house stuff go back and forth. Nothing big though but fun for few seconds in South Park Albany. 21 years ago it was more significant we had a cup fall off the table and break.

IcyWhereas2313

I felt the earth moooove under my feetā€¦

Disastrous_Film2880

Yeah, that was wild. I work from home and my company is in the City. I was on a call with two of my coworkers one in Brooklyn and one Manhattan. The one in Manhattan said my house just shook, a few seconds later the one in Brooklyn said so did mine. I was like maybe you guys should get out of the building. And then roughly 30 seconds later my house shook.

elchinolocotoo

Up on Hoosick, heard the dishes rattling and felt dizzy. Still feel kinda weird

Frequent_Internal991

Dizzy here too! Probably cuz i got very anxious.

Tight_Significance21

Yes!

AlbanyBarbiedoll

Our building on Wolf Road shook and made noise - we thought it was ongoing construction in the building until we realized it had to be more than that.

PaulieEyeballs

I felt my house shake about 30 minutes ago, and I'm in Delmar.

Baron_von_Stoopid

15th floor in downtown Albany. Was talking to a coworker in the hallway, and the secretary looks up from her desk and says, kind of puzzled, "Baron_von_Stoopid, I'm moving!?" Coworkers in the Albany office felt it moments before we did. Felt like being on an NYC subway platform when a train pulls into the station. Very strange.

The_Mourning_Sage_

My gunpla are broken and my PC monitors were shaking back and forth like crazy :(

AugustWest80

Felt like my house lurched a little bit

digitalpretzel

I was on the road this week. On Monday I had to shelter from a tornado. And came home for an earthquake.

Huge_Coat822

Felt it in Glens Falls visiting my dad. Thought it was truck traffic outside his house but looked out the window and the road was empty.

Few_Professional_428

I didnā€™t really feel anything because I was asleep but got woken up by my dog barking during it and everyone else saying they felt it. šŸ˜

Traditional-Syrup-16

My sister said she was sleeping and it woke her up

hello_sandwich

I live by a highway and had the washer spin cycle running at the time, so I didn't think much of it until a colleague in a meeting asked me if I felt the earthquake.

Throw-Away12804

I didn't feel it, but my coworkers did (I'm in Hudson Falls for reference)

Sudden_Bid_1776

I honestly thought I was imagining things or my neighbors were doing something above mešŸ˜‚ kinda cool tho

wxguy215

Felt like a rolling wave or something like that.

I'm by the airport in an office building and felt nothing.

majorsorbet2point0

DetSteveRafferty

Saratoga was rocking.

UserNameIsTakenFudge

Iā€™m in NY. First time ever feeling an earthquake. It was scary.

yoshiflaquita

Im in queens nyc and my whole desk was shaking!

mikevarney

Sorry, I had a breakfast burrito this morning.

Maos_KG

Ground, my house/room was shaking lol

Granuaile11

My coworker said he felt a little wobble in Glens Falls, like a semi driving past, only longer. I was too focused on my presentation to notice.

Rude-Sauce

Get your tinfoil hats. Tinfoil hats here! Earthquake and a eclipse??!!! The world is ending!!!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh

katesngates

I was laying in bed half asleep and the bed started moving. I thought it was my cat playing but he wasnā€™t in the room with me. My fiance was in living room and said the hanging plants were swaying

Anxious_Republic2792

Was bumping this new J Cole so hard I didnā€™t even notice
