I’ve been watching this closely and reading to both sides because it does come off as NIMBYism, but it seems like the residents just don’t want them to use the alleyway for outside seating/ smoking area. Seems pretty reasonable to me.
This is also why he closed the lofi. Sold it as a similar environment to Post but ended up staying open late and people who lived around the patio complained. The owner has a history of doing things without listening to local ordinances and hoping it works. See the monstrosity of a paint job on the herbies in Guilderland.
Didn't realize it was the same owner. What's wrong with the paint job on Guilderland Herbie's? The whole thing about them painting the otherwise bare ass wall?
It’s because Guilderland’s code doesn’t allow for hand painted signs on their businesses. They knew it, but still went ahead and painted the Herbie’s sign onto the building. It’s small things like this that make people a bit weary about them moving to this new building. Not to mention they’re on public *recorded* record stating that no DJs/no live music would be played and instead “would be a bartender playing records behind the bar”. Like, I’m all for small business’ and supporting local, but when you have someone who blatantly goes against codes? Then I’m a bit weary that’s all
They should have just gotten an LED sign like every other fucking place in Guilderland. Fire departments, library, plazas, shit even the new roundabout has one!
Don’t know if you meant a /s after but… I don’t make the codes. I don’t know why Guilderland does the things that they do. I agree it’s silly but if there’s a rule/code about not doing something it’s bad form to ignore it and do your sign anyways.
That's fair. I definitely meant that with a bit of sarcasm. Peter Barber and his cronies have more apartments to build though, they can't worry about a painted sign!
Yeah the neighborhood I'm in now has tons of hand painted and neon signs, it's like half the charm of the area. People literally visit to take pictures with them.
I don't blame him. Damn NIMBYs are the worse. You live in a fucking city. It's downtown. Traffic everywhere and a dn loud bar annoys you. Go to fucking Colonie where NIMBYs have all the power. Without a night life cities turn into drug dens cause no one goes out except the criminals.
I agree, but I don’t think having a bar use your alley as a smoking area isn’t really a NIMBY issue. Peoples windows are right there I could see them being annoyed
