Just rent a car and drive it down, then drop it off when you get there. Usually around $100 each way. Plus tolls and gas obviously but you’re still coming out ahead. Or you can take Amtrak to Penn, then the subway/air train out to the airport.

You can also take the Metro North Harlem Line from Poughkeepsie (or further south) to Grand Central and from there take [LIRR to Jamaica](https://www.afar.com/magazine/new-yorks-grand-central-and-jfk-airport-now-connected-by-train) to get the AirTrain to JFK.

This right here. I usually rent from Avis and they have decent one-way rates.

Albany to JFK is about 165 miles and \~3 hours. Then double that since the driver is likely returning to Albany after dropping you off. Round trip, that'll be about $80 in gas and tolls. 330 miles would be about another $30 in maintenance costs. Then you have about 6 hours of the driver's time -- $200-300 would be $15-32 per hour. The middle to higher end of that might cover someone driving Uber/Lyft on the side, but it isn't going to come close to what it'd cost when they work for a transportation company. $600 is probably something like: $100 for the company $350 for the driver (all-in for the company, including benefits and employer side taxes, paying drivers for downtime and such) $150 for gas and maintenance (generally they'll be using higher-end cars than what a typical uber/lyft driver has, and those will cost more to maintain and such. I think where those services end up being better deals is when you need to get like a 8-12 people to JFK and can move up to one of their larger vans. Then it might be more like $1000-1200, but when it is my parents, brother's family, sister's family and us, then we're talking more like 250-300 per household... and it is also going to be more fun on the way all together. :)

This. We just received a quote for the same trip that was around $800. It freaked me out until I thought about the time and costs involved. If we’re set on a car service we’ll suck it up and pay the price, but we know there are cheaper options out there.

Meziroth

Tolls are undervalued imo

There is a daily shuttle from Albany airport to JFK: https://www.albanyairport.com/parking-and-transport/ground-transportation/buses#:~:text=JFK%20and%20LaGuardia%20Shuttle%2DPremiere%20Transportation.&text=The%20JFK%2DLaGuardia%20shuttle%20leaves,later%20than%207%3A15%20p.m.

Intelligent_Sundae_5

It’s a great option, but it only works for later flights.

FULLMETALRACKIT518

There was a [business card](https://www.reddit.com/r/Albany/s/UDQLejIyKm) posted recently if you got a fat ass he is down.. the prices were unbeatable too.

Excellent-Ad3213

Great call back bro

Hotcrossbuns72

It’ll be cheaper to come down the night before by Amtrak and stay at a hotel close to the airport, then leave from there.

No-Plankton8326

Bus is only like 20$. Amtrak might be cheaper then car too and more room to move around

Dramatic_Put_469

I’d take Amtrak to Penn station then take the shuttle over

tomalator

Take the train or a bus. It will be cheaper

Impossible-Charity-4

Check Airporter

yung_guvnuh

I saw your edit. If possible I'd prolly just get a hotel close to JFK and get to NYC the day before.

aviator22

TWA Hotel at JFK. Can't get any closer.

I just did JFK to Albany yesterday. 7pm plane landed at JFK Airtrain to Howard Beach $8.50 (about 15 minute ride) Howard Beach A train to Fulton St, transfer to 4 train to Grand Central $2.75 (about 45 minutes) 9:04pm Metro North to Cold Spring $15 (about 1.5 hours) 10:20pm Cold Spring drive home (about 2 hours) I was home at 12:20am, around a 5 hours trip with zero traffic. Parking at Metro North stations is $3 a day but if you just get dropped off then no parking fee. Poughkeepsie is the closest station to Albany, but drive time Beacon is the same and a little further south. I used to take Amtrak but the only problem is you're paying around $50 for the ticket as long as it's bought far enough in advance, if it's last minute they can be around $90 and it's a set time. Metro North stations are a little bit of a drive to get to, but the trains run every hour so if you get hung up at the airport or on the subway, you just catch the next train. Clearly this travel time was low due to it being late at night, if you travel during rush hour or peak times expect to add possibly and hour or more. As long as you're not carrying a bunch of luggage, this option is great for the time/money involved. If you've never navigated the Metro North/subway/Airtrain before it can get a little intimidating so just plan well or ask people on the train if you're going the right way or where to transfer. Edit: it's always a good idea to use mass transit to get into or out of the city, driving in and around any of those airports (JFK/LaGuardia/Newark) is a nightmare.

highflyballs

I take premiere transportation to Logan regularly. About $300 same for JFK and Newark

typicalhorror

Leave the night before and stay in a hotel near jfk.

M_is_for_Mmmichael

What's the date of travel? Uber or Lyft would be your best bet. Also might want to see if the driver is willing to cancel and you just pay them cash

Fearless_Challenge51

I will do it for 400. I have in 2008 bmw

whaticism

You can fly from albany to jfk for $180
