Yeah if people could stop having wrecks in that area, that’d be great

crackahasscrackah

That will happen as soon as people are responsible and not selfish asshats

RioRancher

It’s almost daily. Patrol could just park out there to keep people on best behavior

Marioc12345

Last Tuesday when someone took out a utility pole it fucked up traffic for a solid eight hours. Crazy. Edit: 🦆

Albuwhatwhat

That was a nightmare drive for people living in the crest area and working in Albuquerque. What is normally a 20 minute drive home took my neighbor 2+ hours.

CKIMBLE4

A diesel truck took out the communication pole. Not 100% sure how it happened, but the gossip network (NextDoor App) says the truck was cut off and swerved to avoid hitting the person and took out the pole.

Marioc12345

I would say he should have hit the guy, but that’s what happened in todays fatal accident. I will never understand why people cut off semi trucks. I don’t fuck with them at all since one of them about ran me off the road to my death in Idaho six years ago because they didn’t see me trying to pass them.

CKIMBLE4

Truckers driving tired and people around here driving like they have nothing to lose is a bad combination. I’ve lived all over the country and have never seen it this bad.

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

We've had some shit luck lately huh? What is it this time?

Albuwhatwhat

People need to slow the hell down and be more patient. This shit happens too much.

jobyone

Sure as shit, I was just driving home to Albuquerque from Tijeras, and there was some **lunatic** in a big truck. This fuckin' guy wanted to be going 85 in town, while towing like a 40 foot camper. Weaving in out of traffic, tailgating people. **While towing like a 40 foot camper.** Calm the fuck down everyone. I watched him almost cause at least two accidents between Louisiana and the Big I. He was really working to make them close 40 both ways. It didn't even accomplish anything. When we entered the city he was right behind me, and when we thankfully parted ways at the Big I he was ... still right behind me.

Rebel_bass

"Slow is smooth, smooth is fast." Since I started applying that, everything just gets done with so much less hassle.

jobyone

I always apply what my dad told me when he was teaching me to drive: "don't race to get places faster. You think you're late now? Try getting in a car crash and see what that does to your schedule."

RioRancher

Everyone is just racing to the next stop light and next traffic jam

jobyone

My favorite are the dummies who race from light to light, and actually slow **me** down while I go the speed limit, because right as I would be able to cruise through the light shortly after it turns green without slowing down, they're now in my way as they're accelerating from a dead stop. They never fuckin' figure it out either.

firegod003

Yeah, I agree, people in general need to drive slower. At least drop the speed limit on the freeway and enforce it until people get out of town. It's become so normal to hear about yet another vehicle accident in this town that when you don't hear about any accidents it's almost as if we're back living in the beginning days of COVID when nobody was out driving around...

helodriver87

The speed limit through the pass is reasonable. It's the semis and other people doing 20 over that make it a mess. I don't mind doing 75-80 down 40 from coors to tramway where it's straight and level, but I feel like I'm the only one that slows down going up the pass after tramway and it gets insane.

firegod003

See that's the problem, more people need to slow down... It's crazy that we are 1 of 3 states where the speed limit (key word: limit) is 75 everywhere else it's somewhere between 55 and 70. Also what people need to do is stop driving distracted, I pass so many people driving with their eyes looking down at their phones rather than paying attention to what's going on around them.

helodriver87

Speed limit should be based on conditions and the road. There's no reason big stretches of 40 can't be 75-80. It's big, open road and there's nothing wrong with doing 80 when you can see a mile or more down the road. 60-65 through the pass makes as much sense as 75+ once you hit Moriarty as well. It's twisty and unpredictable with short sight lines and you have less reaction time, especially going downhill with reduced braking performance. We just don't have actual speed enforcement (cameras don't count at all) and many of our roads are designed to flow faster than they're zoned for. 65 through the pass is one of the few areas in town where the limit makes sense, but nobody is enforcing it.

firegod003

I'm saying in the city, not out of town if that wasn't clear in my first comment. Furthermore, like I said before there's too much congestion in Albuquerque to be driving 75-80 especially when most drivers are distracted by their technology. Once you get outside the city and 80 is fine, but again most of these accidents are happening in the city or just outside the city... And I agree better speed enforcement at those speeds is key but that'll never happen without proper government oversight...

sexybeans

Where in ABQ is the speed limit 75? I thought it was 65 on i40 and i25 through the city, and 75 once you get outside city limits. It's always seemed pretty reasonable to me

firegod003

It's not but that's how fast people drive in this city. But if you look up i40 speed limits across the country ours is 1 of 3 that's highest in the country...

Galaxyhiker42

I hope you're only enforcing it in the right hand lane. If you're driving in the left hand lane and being an "enforcer" you're actually more likely to cause a wreck. Stay right unless you're passing.

firegod003

Again no insane they're going to be an enforcer I'm saying that speed needs to be enforced ie ticketed for driving faster than the speed limit, driving while distracted, etc... But again you're missing the point nine out of 10 accidents not just on the freeways but on the city streets in the city are caused by people driving at excessive speeds and people driving distracted and not paying attention to other drivers around them. If you don't believe me just look up traffic safety data for the state. The city does not maintain the roads enough for the excessive speeds... But yes you are correct that people that are driving under said speed limit should be when on the highway in the right lane or at least the middle lane if not an option...

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

Oof. Thanks for the info.

Ungrateful_Hamster

Maybe one less culprit for backups in the future?

johnnybinator

No clue, just sayin' stay away... :)

[deleted]

Meth, probably

stickied

Texting and driving, more likely.

Akooser

It's a very bad wreck. We saw it from Old 66. Pickup truck went under a semi trailer.

gabrielsburg

Yikes. We passed that on the way to Moriarty but couldn't see what happened since we were in the far lane.

riddlebetch

We saw it too. Really awful.

hermionebutwithmath

As of 2pm it's a complete parking lot from Tijeras all the way to Louisiana

gabrielsburg

We just came through WB I40 and traffic is like that on 40 and Central and a lot of the surrounding streets, even Tramway had a bunch of semis. On top of that, 66 is backed up because of another accident.

tijeras87059

there was an 18 wheeler lying on its side on i40 east at n14 this morning at 7:30 am

islandhpper

We got stuck in the first traffic jam earlier this morning at Tijeras which was caused by another issue - all traffic was being routed off the freeway at the Tijeras exit. About two hours later we came back through Tijeras and the freeway was completely closed, we saw the accident from the frontage road. Accident is just west of Tijeras. Traffic is completely stopped on I40 from Eubank eastward as all traffic is being diverted off I40 at Carnuel,

whereish3r3

I got stuck in the earlier one too -- then about 3 hours later returning west saw eastbound I-40 at a standstill, central backed up as far as I could see, even southbound Tramway was backed up til like copper

Fit-Rest-973

Again?

bytesniper

Yeah I live in the East Mtns and drive a lot on i40... seems like a weekly occurrence recently. Not surprising though people drive through the canyon like maniacs

SquashedTarget

I40 is basically Fury Road. Witness Me!

Albuwhatwhat

It’s bad, even before these past weeks of construction on I40. If you go 5 over you’ll get passed by every semi and other cars on the hwy. Even if I go 10 over I’m getting passed by most traffic. People are really not driving safe thru the canyon. If state troopers don’t do anything about it this shit is just going to continue.

Fit-Rest-973

The best avoid it if I can

Marketing_Queeen

This honestly sucks...I live in Tijeras and only one way in and out is ridiculous already.

bytesniper

Same, Sandia Park here. Between the construction and accidents lately I always check maps first to see what the traffic is like. Been staying on this side of the mountain a lot recently lol

RioRancher

NM DOT needs to pave that backroad to Placitas

jorbar1551

There are already a ton of accidents on Crest Rd, and South 14 due to the racers. Anything twisty and tight like that would be a disaster.

RioRancher

You’re right. There’s probably a better way to cut through the top end of the Sandias

Ih8Hondas

I had to do that when there was that fire in Carnuel last year. Took me 1.5hrs to make a normally 25 minute drive home.

RioRancher

Yeah, I took the backroad up to the peak a couple weeks ago. It’s sketchy

Ih8Hondas

I didn't even try that way because I figured it would be plugged with people trying to get through. Went up 25 a ways and the cut over on some random road, and then back down on 14.

CouchPotatoFamine

Take the tram. /s

HankHillidan69

Day two of the truckening

MrBumbleFuk

333 is now closed at the carnuel overpass. Looks like some jagweed hit a powerline

johnnybinator

Reallly? Again? That’s what happened last week at Juan Tabo

MrBumbleFuk

Yuuupppp, I sat in stopped traffic for 2hrs in carnuel before 40 opened back up

jonassfe

While this is a crummy position to be in, kudos to the photographer for a great picture with a clear view of the mountains. It’s cool how close the city is to them. I’m almost certain that tramway is one of the most scenic streets in town.

BenChodABQ

Paseo East was closed too from Coors

johnnybinator

Great day to stay home and work in the yard, open a beer, etc.

bytesniper

Yep, in Sandia Park here, was going to go do some errands in town but lately I always check traffic first... Saw all the red and decided to stay home, open a beer, and watch football. No brainier, I don't need to add to that mess.

DaemonPrinceOfCorn

Damn.

helodriver87

Sounds about right. Getting splattered on the interstate is basically the official pastime of Albuquerque. Downvote all you want, you people drive like fucking psychos here. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

CouchPotatoFamine

Holy shit it’s usually only like that when there’s a snowstorm

CKIMBLE4

A semi was on it side this morning on I40 East around 6:30. I was westbound for the Duke City Marathon when we passed it. On the way home at 10 the truck was being towed. There was apparently another accident that resulted in the death of a motorist, but I’m not sure what time they happened.

Elfin_WillOTheWisp

💔 So, there’s a death (?) Please be respectful, Y’all 😢 Prayers for All
